1. It’s 1914 and America has just been brought into the war. It is your job as being
commander to determine ways to get more men and women to actively join the armed
forces as soldiers, doctors, and nurses. Keep in mind, the war lays in your hands.
-The Job-
As military commander, you must create propoganda posters, media, and speeches
regarding the need for men and women to join the war effort. Utilizing what we have
learned from the past unit about what the war was like, economy at the time, and
patriotism create 2 posters, 1 media speech/ad, and 1 letter to home from a soldier that
will be published in the local newspaper. These pieces should all be relevant and
presented according to the time period.
1. First you should view the resources given and take notes on ways propaganda was
presented.
2. Once you've done this, you’ll create your own poster to allure men and women
into the service.
3. Continue using the resource websites to create a media announcement, jingle, etc.
that will gain positive attention from your viewers. Understand how the civilians
felt towards America in the war.
4. Last, create a letter home from a soldier that has gone abroad to fight in the war
effort. Include details of the life oversees, but keep in mind that this letter will be
presented in the local newspaper. Think of how what the soldier writes will affect
the people of the states.
5. To help you successfully complete these tasks create rough drafts and charts
regarding what should be included in the project.
