These are Anneliese Poetz's slides that were used for the August 14, 2015 Clear Language Writing training webinar for KBHN trainees. These slides were used following the training in clear language writing provided by Michael Johnny, and outline information specific to creating ResearchSnapshots for KBHN trainees. This webinar constitutes Step 1 of the *new* clear language/ResearchSnapshot writing process for KBHN's KT Core.

- Several of you are clinicians, occupational therapists, and other types of practitioners and you may also have experience working in policy so because of that you will have insight into how these target audiences can use your ResearchSnapshot (for the section on “how can you use this research”). The general purpose of KT by NeuroDevNet (including these ResearchSnapshots) is to inform policy change, and practice change/improvement. Methodology section should be clear but complete otherwise you will lose credibility with the audience. Policymakers and practitioners are not unfamiliar with research – we are not providing them with clear language summaries because they don’t understand research. We are providing them with these summaries because they don’t have time to read the whole paper and just want the main points. Indeed, the headline and shaded box with key points may be the only thing busy policymakers read/see. If you need assistance with this, the KT Core can help.
- Steps 5 and 6 that Michael outlined for “Clear Language Writing and Design” (Testing and Revising) are a key part of the process. Stacie is going to coordinate and work with you on this back and forth for your clear language research snapshot drafting. So when Michael was referring to having a peer/buddy system to have someone else read your work, the KT Core is providing you with access to Stacie and she will work with you to make sure the content is correct but also at a grade 10 (or 12) reading level. Contact the KT Core when you have a candidate paper that you would like to summarize and we will begin the process.
