5. Communication as defined by Merriam
Webster, is the “act or process of using
words, signs, or behaviors to express or
exchange information, ideas, thoughts,
feelings, etc. to someone else.” The ways of
conveying information have envolved.

6. 5 DECADES AGO
 News were printed in the evening and
newspapers were distributed early in the
morning.
 EXTRA- a single broad sheet of newspaper that
would be printed and distributed by newsboys.

7. What is media?
 Refers to the combination of physical objects
used to communicate or mass media
communication through physical objects, such as
radio, television, computers, telephone, mobile
phone, film, etc.
 Also refers to any physical object used to
communicate media messages.

8. SNAIL MAIL
 When one reacts to an editorial article, the
letter would take one or two days to reach
the editorial desk.
 At the present, when a viewer hears a news
on radio or television, the viewer can send
an e-mail or post his/her reactions in social
networking site.

11. MEDIA LITERACY
 Is understanding and using mass media in either in
assertive or nonassertive way, including an informed and
critical understanding of media, what techniques they
employ and their effects.
 Also ability to read, analyze, evaluate, and produce
communication in a variety of media forms such as
television, radio, computer, and other.

has been gathered or received by communication,

17. INFORMATION LITERACY
 Refers to the abilities to recognize when information is
needed and to locate, evaluate, effectively use, and
communicate information in its various formats.
 A person becomes information literate when he has
learned to maximize all kinds of information sources in
finding answers to his queries. (Information Power, 1988).
 Eisenberg and Berkowitz (1988) introduced the BIG 6
APPROACH to measure the information literacy skill of
learners
