Editor's Notes
(Mission/Vision powerpoint/slide)
I especially want to thank Gustavo Cruz, the board’s chair, who spends countless hours ensuring our organization’s success.
Today, I’ll provide an update on what we’ve accomplished over the last fiscal year, give you a glimpse of where we’re headed, and share why our work is so important.
I know you’ll be excited to support our work and help us achieve our mission.
Our work is complex, but if I had to distill it down to its core, we exist to:
•support our future generations access and finance higher education
•prepare emerging leaders succeed in their career; and,
•grow our community’s wealth and assets by investing in our community’s entrepreneurial spirit
(General Technical assistance powerpoint slide)
We’ve been providing services to Latino businesses and entrepreneurs in Oregon and SW Washington for more than a decade. Our bilingual and bicultural, business development coordinators work one-on-one with clients to support them creating a business, developing business plans and systems, navigating them through countless bureaucracies so they can access contracts and financing, and coaching and encouraging them along the way.
(Businesses served, YTD, Jobs created/impacted slide)
I want to thank Portland’s city and elected leaders, as well as the Portland Development Commission’s senior leadership for our long-term commitment and collaboration to economic development efforts. I look forward to continue collaborating in our efforts to build wealth and assets within Latino businesses.
This year we supported 417 businesses get established, grow, and succeed with our technical assistance services in Portland, Beaverton, and Vancouver. The vast majority of these businesses (81%) are small Latino businesses with less than 5 employees (96%). We helped create 152 new jobs, and retain 141. Since the program was established in 2003, we have supported more than 3,500 businesses, create over 1,000 jobs, while retaining nearly 1,300.
