2. Problem Statement
A growing epidemic of the unavailability and acute shortage of safe blood supply during
emergencies, is at an all-time high in Bangladesh.
• According toWorld Health Organization (WHO) Bangladesh, compiled reports from blood
transfusion centers under public and private sectors revealed that over 600,000 units of blood
were collected in 2016 against an estimated demand of 800,000.
• Of the collected blood, only 31% comes from voluntary donors.
• More than 2/3 of blood donations come from relatives and friends of the patients.

3. Project Summary
• The National safe Blood Transfusion Council is the apex body for Blood
Transfusion Service in Bangladesh.
• It is the responsible body for policy decision and management of Blood
Transfusion Service in Bangladesh (National Blood Transfusion Center).
• The Blood Transfusion Society of Bangladesh (BTSB) engaged and gathered
a team on to design and build an app with real time live updates and
tracking assistant of blood.
My role:

4. Goals
• Aim
Bridging the communication gap between blood donors and
recipients in Bangladesh.
• Objective
To conceptualize and develop a user-interface (UI) design proposed
for a blood donation application.
• Target audience
University student/ young adults (18-24 year olds)

5. • Mission
To make the best use of modern technologies in mobilizing the masses and bridging the gap of
communication by fulfilling every blood request in Bangladesh. Thereby providing a safe and adequate blood
supply for patients in the diverse community we serve
• Vision
• To strengthen the BTSD’s position in thalassaemia management, as well as, provide prevention information.
• To shape the blood banking and haematological sector by integrating test results and medical information
efficiently.
• To provide awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure the quality, safety and availability of
blood and blood products for patients in need.

Feedback: “It is a stressful procedure to
wait for patient attendants to manage
blood donors. We sometimes have to
announce or even “shout” for voluntary
blood donation outside the corridors for
people to come help. It would be of great
utility to have an app where area based
donors can be found, who can run to the
nearest hospital in case of emergency
situations.”

17. Future plans
• Although this is only the initial stage of the design process, many
more amendments need to be made according to recent user
feedback, taking some into consideration such as:
• Add donor report
• Track who the blood is going to
• Activities / food habits before, during and after blood donation
In conclusion, the app shall be iterated for further investigations in the
future, enhancing user ease and experience.
