ARISTOTLE EARLY LIFE Aristotle was born in 384B.C in stagira in northern Greece. His father Nicomachus died when Aristotle was a child. At seventeen years he joined Plato’s Academy in Athens. He spend 20 years as a student and teacher at the school. Plato died in 347 Aristotle left Athens.
  4. 4. In 335 B.C , Aristotle had returned to Athens, establishing his own school , namely Lyseum. His writings cover a vast range of subjects including physics, biology, metaphysics, logic, poetry, ethics , politics etc. Notable works – On the soul, Politics, Prior Analytics, Categories, History of Animals. Aristotle died in 323 B.C. .

INTRODUCTION Aristotle was one of the greatest philosopher who ever lived and the first genuine scientist in contributions He made pioneer contributions to all fields of philosophy and science. He invented in the field of formal logic and he identified the various scientific disciplines and their relationship to each other. Aristotle was also a teacher and founded his own school in Athens, knowns as Lyceum. Father of biology. Father of zoology Father of logic Father of political science

CLASSIFICATIONOF LIVING BEINGS  In his book Historia Animalium , Aristotle was the first person in history to venture into the classification of different animals.  Based on the presence of blood ,he created two different groups such as animal with blood and animal without blood.  Based on their habitat he classified animals as one that live in water and other one that live in land.  All living being could be grouped in the hierarchical system.  He placed the human species highest in this hierarchy  The Aristotle view of plant reproduction – Higher form plants like trees and flowers were animated with a vegetative soul .  Lower forms such as fungus and moss was generated spontaneously in decaying matter.  Flies, worms and other small animals born from decaying matter through process of spontaneous generation.

FOUNDER OF ZOOLOGY  Aristotle is also known as the father of zoology.  From his classification of living being primarily involved different species of the animal kingdom only.  History of animals , movements of animals, progression of animals were based on the study of different land, water, and aerial animals.  One of his early observational experiments included dissecting birds eggs during the different stages of embryonic development inside the egg
