A. Genre Elements:
-Title : So we’d be happier as empty nester parents? That’s rubbish
-Issue : Parents that have children are happier than parents that don’t have children.
-Statement : Christoph Becker and his colleagues at Heidelberg University in Germany have discovered
that people with kids are actually happier than people without – so long as the kids have left home.
-Argument pro : This may be selfish, but the thought of them leaving fills me with a sense of loss.
-Argument contra: But according to an even newer cross-sectional survey of parents, this is a load of pants.
Using the established qualitative research method of the one-to-one interview, I asked my partner and the
mother of my children what she thought. Certainly not true for us, she said. I then extended the focus group by
asking myself what I thought – nah, bollocks, I told myself.
-Conclusion : Parents will be happier if they have children at home than parents who do not have
children at home.

-and I think we occasionally bring them joy too
-We’d love them to be independent and spread their wings one day, but in the meantime we all have a great
time together.
-And I’m yet to meet a syndrome I want to sign up to.
-…to understand my kids, so why would I want to offload them now?

A. Genre Elements:
-Title : Remarks by President Biden Before the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly
-Issue : Instead of continuing to fight the wars of the past, we are fixing our eyes on devoting our resources to the challenges that
hold the keys to our collective future: ending this pandemic; addressing the climate crisis; managing the shifts in global power
dynamics; shaping the rules of the world on vital issues like trade, cyber, and emerging technologies; and facing the threat of
terrorism as it stands today. The point of this is to rebuild the world for the better.
-Thesis : As a global community, we’re challenged by urgent and looming crises wherein lie enormous opportunities if — if —
we can summon the will and resolve to seize these opportunities.
-Argument :
1. This is a turning point in the history of how America intends to answer those questions - whether they choose to fight for a
shared future or not - that will resonate with generations to come, as well as the new administration's commitment to working
with partners and allies to help lead the world towards a future of prosperity and peace for all.
2. To deal with a global pandemic, collective action of science and political will is needed because the force of arms alone cannot
fight COVID-19. In addition, there is a need for a new mechanism to finance global health security that is armed with adequate
tools to monitor and identify emerging pandemics so that immediate action can be taken. For example, the distribution of
vaccines by plane by the US that has landed in 100 countries is a bit of a 'dose of hope' for all people in the world.
3. The climate crisis without limits in the form of extreme weather which is called the code red for humanity by the Secretary-
General requires every country to carry its ambitions in determining good climate policies. Good climate policies not only address
climate problems, but also have a positive impact on the economic sector. For example, it raises opportunities for well-paying
jobs, which in the long run can improve the quality of life. To support climate action in developing countries, America will lead
public climate finance by doubling down on international public finance and working with Congress and private and other capital
raising.

4. The technological era has the potential to unleash and reshape every aspect of human existence. To that end, they work
closely with democratic partners to ensure that progress in various fields can lead in a positive direction.
5. To reach a peaceful resolution, the United States stands ready to work with any country to address threats such as COVID-19,
climate change, terrorism, and nuclear proliferation in an effort to achieve this, America is committed to preventing Iran from
obtaining nuclear weapons and is ready to prevent terrorist threats both now and in the future with local partners to minimize
large-scale military deployments.
6. Corruption fuels inequality, drains state resources, spreads across borders, and afflicts people. It is a national security threat
that makes people come down to demand that the government meet the basic needs of society, give it a fair chance to succeed,
and protect God-given rights. To that end, America is committed to using international resources and platforms to support the
voice of justice with transparent and sustainable investments to maintain high labor and environmental standards and
infrastructure as a strong foundation that enables low- and middle-income communities to grow and thrive.
7. America will continue to be the world's largest contributor to humanitarian aid. To that end, the US made a $10 billion
commitment to ending hunger and investing in food systems at home and abroad.
8. The future will belong to those who unleash the potential of their people by supporting the rights of all their citizens without
discrimination of race, ethnicity, and religion.
-Reiteration/Conclusion :
All the unmatched strength, energy, commitment, will and resources of our nation today are fully focused on what is in front of
us, not what is behind. I know this: As we look to the future, we will lead. We will lead all the biggest challenges of the times us
— from COVID to climate, peace and security, human dignity and human rights. But we won't do it alone. We will lead together
with our Allies and partners and cooperate with all who believe, as we do, that it is our strength to meet this challenge, to build a
future that lifts all our people and preserve the planet.
