  3. 3. Chapter One What is a Tea Cleanse? Get to Know the Basics You’ve landed in the right place if you want to not only lose weight, but improve every aspect of your life. There are countless benefits to starting a tea detox, then continuing to drink tea regularly. For a lot of people, tea isn’t a personal preference. However, you can exchange the plain hot cup of tea for a variety of different recipes that not only taste delicious, but give you the same benefits. For the tea fanatics, keep drinking that hot and soothing cup of tea every day. A tea cleanse can drop weight almost instantly, improve your overall health, and even suppress appetite. Going organic will be your best option, as it provides the most natural ingredients. If you don’t want to do that, you can even make your own cleanse at home with normal household ingredients! Maintaining physical health is important in every aspect of your life. It is important to learn how these cleanses should become a part of your routine, no matter how busy you may become. Every day there is an excuse to not exercise for so many people. These excuses turn into a sedentary lifestyle and can lead to so many different health problems. With minimal exercise and a tea cleanse, you can jumpstart your metabolism and create energy you never knew you had. Making a change in your life and beginning the transformation into a “better you” will be one of the most rewarding accomplishments imaginable. The hardest part about starting a dedicated cleanse is actually starting! Each day will not be a struggle. When the first steps are taken towards your cleansing goal, you will realize how much your life will change. What a Tea Cleanse and Detox Actually Is- In reality, a tea cleanse can be many different things involving many different recipes and teas. This will be the summed up version of it all, and we will get into the bigger details later. First and foremost, it’s important to know what a detox is in general. Our world is a large compilation of toxins that we breathe, eat, and drink almost daily. Toxins come in the form of medications, anything you might use on your skin daily- it’s almost unavoidable! Unless you shop at a completely organic store, you are ingesting toxins in even the fruit and vegetables that you buy at regular grocery stores. It’s almost impossible in these times to not be surrounded by toxins, even if you live in the middle of nowhere and grow your own food. This isn’t meant to make you fearful, we’ve grown up with these toxins since birth and our immune systems have become adapted to them. However, it’s important to cleanse yourself regularly in order to stay healthy. Remember, you should still eat during these detoxes, especially if you have never done one before. If you decide on a tea cleanse, eat only completely healthy foods- preferably organic. You can always drop the calories you’re used to consuming by a good number, but if you don’t eat anything it can cause serious health problems and put your body into starvation mode, which will tear apart your body and leave you extremely agitated. Always consult a health care provider before doing a tea detox in which you decide to eat nothing at all. It’s not suggested, but it has
  4. 4. been practiced for centuries. Unless you’re already familiar with regular detoxes, then DON’T starve yourself and only drink tea in hopes of dropping weight instantly. It’s not always about instantly losing weight (though it’s definitely a perk), but more about starting a normal detoxing routine in order to live a longer and more fulfilling life. Many people are lead to detoxing because they simply feel off. When I say “off,” I mean that you feel simply like crud in general. You feel like you have poor health, no matter what weight you’re at. Being constantly fatigued, drained, irritable, having a poor or overactive appetite- these are all signs that you are in desperate need of an intense detox. There are many different ways to detox, but we will be focusing on the most prominent one- tea. You’d be surprised how every single tea has a detoxing benefit. Sure, you could go to the store and buy a box that says “detox tea” on the front. It’s the quickest one your eyes turn to and it is right there and available. These are generally a good start, but you have so many other options that benefit certain vital organs, mental health, blood flow, and your metabolism. Is this overwhelming yet? It shouldn’t be! This is a cheap and easy way to improve every aspect of your life without going to the pharmacy, vitamin store, or grocery store. The gunk in your body needs to go. I can’t stress how important a tea cleanse is for this. A simple tea cleanse starts in the morning which is basically a refreshment and clean start. Plan it for tomorrow. Start your morning with this easy beginning step. Your initial refresh first thing in the morning could easily be any tea you feel like having, but you should probably stay away from sedating teas, as you have a full day ahead of you. Your morning tea will automatically push out old toxins, and putting essential electrolytes and vitamins back into your body. Again, we will get into the best teas to start your day soon. For now, you need to know what you are getting into- and what you’re getting into will be one of the best decisions you could possibly make. At night, the colon cleanse is the main focus. Although it might sound a bit ominous, it is completely necessary if you want to rid your body of all the harmful toxins you’ve been taking in. Your colon cleanse tea will act as basically a colon cleanse, so if you have a lot of toxin build up, prepare yourself for a rough start. We will discuss the best colon refreshers for the best detox in future sections. Just remember, it’s for the best, and it’s for your health!
  5. 5. Chapter Two How to Begin Your Detox In all reality, there is no right or wrong way to go about your daily tea detox, there is only a basic outline of how you should do it. There are a million different types of teas that all have the same effect, and you can get creative and do it your own way. There are so many guidebooks on the precise way to accomplish one, but you need to do what is best for you and your body. Do you really think you will go through a full detox if the suggestions you’re reading taste absolutely horrifying to you? Probably not. If you are choking down your tea for the detox, it’s uncomfortable and you won’t want to keep going. The best suggestions will be listed here. As previously mentioned, the basic guidelines you should follow consists of a morning refreshing tea (or tea smoothie) of your choice, cups of tea throughout the day (green tea is one of the best options), and a nightly colon cleanse detox tea. It sounds like a lot of work, but in all reality it’s as simple as doing your normal daily glasses of water throughout the day, and you can even prepare in advance if you are always on the go. Think positively! It’s time to give your body the clean slate that it deserves. Where to get it, and what to get- Don’t ever underestimate the power of your local grocery store! Worldwide chain companies have a lot to offer, and it’s not always a bunch of fake tea made with unnatural ingredients. With that being said, do be careful. Don’t just give in to the box that says ‘instant detox,’ or something along those lines. However, many chain grocery stores to have an essential amount of amazing products that are made for the detox you need. You can find authentic and organic green tea almost anywhere, but that’s only because it’s one of the most popular. Other teas you might want to test from the tea department in your local grocery store will be falsely advertised and you won’t get the cleanse you need. What is best recommended is that small organic store tucked away in the corner of your city or town. Some locations have thousands of these places, and other places have only a few that are hard to find. It is promised that at these stores you will find and ample amount of tea that is 100% toxin free and completely organic. If you go to your regular store, you might have the feeling that you are detoxing, when in all reality you are only putting more toxins inside of you due to falsely advertised ‘all natural’ ingredients. These organic stores are hidden gems, and you can find everything from organic teas and herbs, as well as food and produce. Our main focus will be tea and herbs. By going to these stores and purchasing organic products, you will be doing your body and your mind a huge favor. Keep in mind that these stores are slightly more expensive, but your purchases will be well worth every penny and your detox will be that much greater.
  6. 6. Unless you like your coffee black, whiskey on the rocks, vodka mixed with water, or your restaurant tea unsweetened, then you will want to find the right sweeteners to give you the best experience. Please remember that you don’t need to choke down your detox. Be good to your body, and be good to your taste buds. There are so many options for this, but stay organic. The simplest answer to your delicious tea detox is 100% organic honey- which will most likely be at the same store. There are many herbs that bounce up the flavor to your tea, even if you just stir your tea up with a cinnamon stick. Cinnamon has an extraordinary amount of health benefits, but we will get into that later. If you want to make your morning tea into a smoothie, you won’t even need a sweetener. Certain fruits (again, 100% organic and GMO free) will give you all the sweetness you need. If you don’t need sweeteners and don’t mind the bitter, great! You have one less thing to think about. Although, most people like to add the flavor. When it comes to what exactly you should get, there are so many options. You should find what’s best for you and not change it up every day. Find something and stick with the plan- you don’t want to continuously confuse your body by changing up teas throughout the day constantly. We will begin with the best options for morning, and continue with what is best for your daily and nightly routine. -Good morning! If you have now been convinced to start your detox as soon as possible, you will need to know the key elements for your first morning tea or smoothie, and where to start. Get to that organic store immediately and pick up everything you will need from morning until bedtime. The options for your morning refresher and detox beginning are endless, but we will give you some of the top rated options based on people just like you who now regularly do cleanses because they love it so much. Listed for you will be the best consumer rated options for teas and herbs specifically based on your morning routine.  Matcha Tea- This tea will be easily found, and it is key to your rejuvenating morning refresh/detox. Matcha tea has become a recent sensation all over the world, but has started its journey in Japan. This tea actually comes in powder form! So, if you add a scoop to your smoothie or if you use it as a plain cup of tea, you are getting benefits you would never imagine are true. First, matcha tea is extremely powerful. When you drink this substance, you are really eating the green tea leaves raw, and get 100% of the benefits. Green tea is a staple in detoxing, and matcha green tea is the superhero of green teas, if you want to think of it like that. If you decide to use this- with one serving you are drinking the equivalent of roughly ten cups of brewed green tea (in the packet form.) Compared to regular green tea brewed in a packed, you receive 137 times more antioxidants. Matcha tea is a great way to start the day- it is jam packed with everything you need to start the day. It’s also a wonderful place to start in your weight loss journey. Without you even knowing it, matcha tea (or green tea in general) speeds up your metabolism and continues to burn calories throughout the day. Many other benefits include keeping your mind in focus throughout the day (concentration), perks up your mood in general, and can prevent diseases in the long run if continuously used. There are so many effective vitamins, including magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, selenium, and
  7. 7. chromium. Just when you think this tea couldn’t do anymore, it can lower your blood sugar quickly and drop your cholesterol. What’s a better way to start your day? This is our top pick, but of course there are many other routes you can take for your morning toxin removal. To boost what matcha tea already is 100% capable, you can add certain things to it. Why not? Some of the best fat burning, antioxidant packed, and toxin removal add ins are ginseng, spirulina, barley grass, and acai berries.  Your own morning detox tea- In the morning, it’s best to start off with something that will boost your energy in a harmless way. Did you know you could easily create your own detox tea without purchasing anything (unless you don’t already have it in your herb and spices cabinet. We will get into the recipes later, but for a quick wrap-up of what this tea contains will make you interested, especially if the taste of green tea isn’t well…your cup of tea. You should still consider matcha or green tea as your go-to, but this is just as effective. If you like more of a warm and spicy feeling when you drink hot tea, then this might be it for you. All you need is ginger, turmeric, cayenne, and cinnamon (stick or powder.) Cinnamon is a natural anti-inflammatory, cayenne heats up your body to burn calories and fat quicker, ginger helps with easy digestion, and turmeric purifies your liver and pushes the built up toxins out.  General store-bought detox tea- We discussed this earlier- your best option will be to make your morning detox tea from scratch or purchase it from an organic store. However, some of these ‘main chain name’ detox teas do work. They are easy to spot, as they are simply listed as ‘Detox Tea,’ and you will have many options to choose from. You should always look at the back of the box and make sure the ingredients don’t contain ingredients that are anything short of natural. These teas come in many shapes and forms. There are some really good generic detox teas out there that contain powerful ingredients such as dandelion root for liver benefits, juniper berries to improve kidney function, as well as black pepper and ginger root to speed up your blood flow and burn off that fat. Many of these common teas can be great, but remember to keep an eye on the ingredients label.  Green tea, give yourself more- Matcha was previously mentioned, which is basically a ‘super’ green tea. But, never underestimate the power of traditional organic green tea. The benefits to drinking green tea can not only start your day off on a good note, but continuing to drink it throughout the day will do your body eye-opening results. Like matcha, green tea is obviously one of the most popular and easy to acquire teas to get. If you are used to drinking coffee in the morning, stop! Switch to green tea. It still has that great amount of caffeine you need to get the day started, but you won’t have a crashing point when it wears off. Rid your body of the junk that’s been lingering inside by making this switch. Polyphenols (a fancy word for antioxidants), are a huge perk in green tea, and has been proven to detoxify. Green tea in the long run has been suggested that it prevents various cancers, many health issues such as bacterial infections, and help your digestive
  8. 8. tract stay steady and regular. Green tea will always be one of the best teas to not only begin your day, but continue to drink throughout the day. -Afternoon time! In this section, there is not much to reiterate apart from the fact to keep drinking your tea of choice. If you choose to drink green tea- throughout the day have 3-4 cups of it. It will only keep you perked up throughout the day, and keep you in focus. Green tea does have caffeine; therefore, you shouldn’t continue to consume it throughout the night if you intend on getting some sleep. Also keep in mind that good natural snacks will help curb your appetite, and smoothies that are filled with super rich nutrients (along with the tea) will not only make you feel full longer, but it will burn fat at the same time. You really can’t go wrong unless you drink three cups of green tea then go out to a fast food joint and order and double cheeseburger and large fries.
  9. 9. Chapter Three What the Cleanse does for your Body In the previous chapters, we’ve already made note of the fact that there is an assortment amount of great things that happen to your body when you do a tea detox. You will jumpstart a good workout routine by cleansing out your system and getting rid of all that extra water weight we carry around (which can add up big time.) You can instantly drop so much weight even if you only do the cleanse for a short amount of time. If you carry on with the cleanse for a week, expect to drop some major pounds! But, it’s not always about the weight loss. Tea has so many benefits on every aspect of your body, both inside and out. If you are not convinced yet, take a look at all of the wonderful things that will happen to your body when you do a tea detox and continue to drink tea over a long period of time. Once again, avoid all the fun flavors like your typical ‘lemon zinger.’ REAL tea comes in four categories from the plant- oolong, green, black, and white. All four have variants of the type you can get based on what you want. 1. The amount of antioxidants in tea can prevent cancer. The list could go on and on with the variety of cancers it can protect against. Skin cancer, lung, stomach, ovarian, liver, oral, colon, breast, prostate- you name it, tea prevents it. Though research has not been completely proven, science is bias in believing that the antioxidants do work like a superpower to prevent these life threatening diseases. Drinking tea regular can significantly reduce the risks of heart attacks and cardiovascular diseases. The sugary drinks most people are used to consuming do the exact opposite. 2. Drinking tea can boost your exercise performance and endurance. Scientists have determined that the antioxidants in green tea specifically turn active exercise into using fat as fuel and burning calories of quicker than if you didn’t drink the green tea. This provides muscle endurance to be intensified. Drinking tea after a workout will restore and rejuvenate the powerful workout you just had, almost acting as a muscle relaxant. Again, doing this regularly helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases. 3. Green tea specifically keeps you 100% hydrated, even though it has caffeine. Enough said, drink up! 4. Free radicals: These pesky things potentially destroy your DNA over time. To simplify things, tea is common for absorbing these free radicals and fight them off. ORAC is an acronym for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. Naturally, our bodies fight them off as own as best as they can, just like your immune system would fight off a virus. However, our bodies can’t fight off these free radicals 100%- our bodies just are not designed that way. These radicals have led to causing brain degeneration, cancer, and cardiology problems if not taken care of over time.
  10. 10. 5. Parkinson’s disease can occur not only in the elderly, but younger people and middle- aged people as well. This disease occurs in the nervous system, and is a very hard disease to cope with. Muscle mass weakens, moving around becomes uncomfortable and slow, and pain is common. It causes problems in the brain, and dopamine is significantly reduced. Drinking tea regularly greatly reduces the chances of you developing the disease, whether you are a man or woman. 6. BMI: Scientists recently did a study on a group of individuals, both men and women, to drink hot tea regularly and go about with their basic daily activities, including exercise. Can you guess what happened? Waist measurements dropped even LOWER than what scientists had expected, but not in an unhealthy way. The people in the study who didn’t consume the hot tea didn’t have much of a change (if at all) and BMI stayed roughly the same as it was when they started. With that being said, lowering your BMI obviously means reducing the risk of diabetes, strokes, and heart failure. All you have to do is put your trust in tea, drink it regularly, and reap the benefits of living healthy! 7. Not to make smoking cigarettes a spotlight positive thing (it’s NOT), if you are a smoker, drinking tea regularly can prevent the harm that smoking does to your body. Don’t continue smoking just because tea might help the negatives that come with it. You should always consider quitting. However, until you do, tea can help prevent many of the negative side effects you feel when you use tobacco products. 8. Green tea is like sunscreen? This might sound like something out of a science fiction novel, but it’s very possible that if you drink green tea throughout the day and forget your sunscreen on your trip to the beach, you may be protected. Ultra-violet rays (UV), are a pain. Well, it’s better said that it’s a burn. Antioxidants in green tea have been found to protect against these powerful rays. 9. Green tea helps process sugars throughout your blood. This is amazing news for people who suffer from Diabetes, as it can help to control and maintain a normal blood sugar number. 10. The minerals found in bones that increase density and provide strength can be improved by drinking green tea. Milk doesn’t just make your body stronger- tea does too! All of this material is still under current and constant research, but there has been zero harm found in drinking tea (unless you drink gallons of it a day.) There have only ever been positive health effects associated with drinking tea regularly. While all of the above are benefits to drinking assortments of tea long term, there are also many benefits that drinking tea for only a short amount of time (as in a quick detox) can still provide amazing results. As we discussed before, a quick detox can improve the function of all your vital organs, push out all harmful toxins, refresh your body and mind, drop weight instantly, and change your life.
  11. 11. Chapter Four How Tea Cleanses your Mind Numerous times we have been told in our life that tea is the cure for everything, even hidden illnesses such as depression, PTSD, and anxiety. These are all very true reports. During your detox, especially if you deal with constant stress, you have so many natural options to relax your body and improve the function of your brain. Many teas have sedative effects that are completely harmless, and most come in herbal forms with no caffeine. Detoxing the body is a wonderful thing, but why not kill two birds in one stone? Detox both your mind and your body. Tea is a wonderful tool you can use to destroy those inner demons and give you peace within yourself. These teas have been used for centuries for anxiety and overall ‘nervousness.’ Throughout the day, continue your detox routine of drinking green tea (or your special detox of your choice), but when sleep draws near and you are feeling overly stressed or anxious, try out these amazing offers. Keep in mind, the teas won’t permanently cure your silent disease, especially if you suffer from severe mental illnesses such as PTSD. However, they can temporarily relax your muscles, mind, and nerves.  Chamomile: This tea is a no-brainer (no pun intended.) If you ask anyone who drinks tea regularly, they will suggest chamomile as your go-to relaxant. Chamomile is an herb that comes from a flower, and is dried up and put into your little packet. The most common uses for drinking chamomile is to relax and unwind, but even help alleviate more extreme cases of panic attacks, insomnia, and anxiety. Not ONLY does chamomile help with struggles of the mind, but there are many other benefits to drinking it regularly especially if you are in the process of detoxing. While you initially begin detoxing, you might feel some cramping due to the bowel movements you’ll be passing to get rid of all the toxins. Chamomile tea replenishes that, and provides comfort to any kind of stomach ache. The active ingredient in chamomile tea is bisabolol, which acts as an anti-inflammatory and irritant. This is perfect to end a day of detox. Add a little honey in your warm cup to liven up the flavor and add extra calmness.  Kava: If you are really suffering, it’s time to bring out the big guns. This is the absolute most tranquilizing tea on the market that is legal. Again- it is safe, and completely natural. This tea is one of the most studied and well known teas aimed towards people who suffer from severe mental illnesses and is noted to work as well as a prescription drug such as Xanax- but with natural and healthy ingredients. Note that if you do take certain medications, kava tea may have negative interactions with them. Kava tea that you would buy in a grocery store wouldn’t have the same effects that it would if you purchased from all natural sellers online or organic herbal tea shops. If you are really
  12. 12. looking for an instant relaxant and a good night of sleep, this is the tea for you. NEVER combine kava tea with alcohol.  Valerian Root: Much like kava and chamomile, valerian root tea has similar sedating effects, but not nearly as strong as kava tea would. While valerian root (which also comes in capsule form) isn’t generally used by people with anxiety disorders, people do find a calming aide that comes with drinking it. It the perfect ‘unwind after a hard day’ tea. Valerian root tea is generally used as a natural sleep aide, for those looking for natural remedies and not medications for sleeping that come over the counter. Beating off toxins was the original goal, right? Put away that sleeping pill and stock up on valerian root tea. This tea should be avoided throughout the day, as it might make you feel fatigued and ready to sleep. This is the perfect tea after a long day of detoxing.  Passionflower: Again, like kava, this is considered a sedative but with less side effects or interactions with other medications. Purchasing passionflower tea at the store has an unknown amount of sedating side effects, and not enough research has been done to prove that it would be sedating in a low dose. Everyone is different in the way they react to calming teas. Likewise, there are of course a large assortment of teas that help you stay focused throughout the day. Most of these include caffeine. So many human beings can’t function without a daily caffeine fix, especially if they work all day or all night, and have a job that requires full attention at all times. Again, green tea is the miracle for this. Many other teas that contain caffeine (such as black tea) will get the job done as well and keep you focused throughout the day. Staying focused and keeping up with a routine plan of when you should drink tea and the type of tea you should drink will ultimately make your detox plan that much easier and a million times more effective. Take time in choosing what suits you best and test things out, there’s nothing wrong with that. Remember, this is about you. This is about your health and wellness both inside and out.
  13. 13. Chapter Five The Best Detox Recipes for You Homemade teas, smoothies, shakes, and more. Trying out a bunch of different new things might seem difficult and tedious, but it’s completely worth it in the long run- especially if you plan to do a tea cleanse every week or month. This is a great list to start with, and will help you figure out not only what works best with your body, but what tastes the best to you. Let’s face it, taste is important. And who doesn’t love a good smoothie? Before we get started, just for the record, you can add spinach or kale to ANY smoothie and it has no flavor! It’ll turn your drink a nice shade of green, but you will taste absolutely nothing ‘grassy’ and you will only taste the organic fruit, tea, and herbs you add in. Remember, keep everything organic! Don’t mess up and add a big scoop of sugar into your smoothie or shake. We are here to lose weight and detox, not gain more weight and put the dirt back in. This section will not be all about tea, though you can add a scoop of matcha in wherever you’d like. Sometimes, detoxing can be all about mixing the right amount of fresh (ORGANIC) fruit, herbs, vegetables, and water. You can even throw in organic coconut water- that stuff does wonders to your body and skin. Berries and other fruits contain essentials for detoxing, such as the daily dose of fiber you need and the antioxidants they contain. Blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are the most popular for these, so many of these recipes will include these three hot ingredients. -Smoothies- Basic berry refresh smoothie, great for your morning wake up. Skip the coffee and try this instead. Ingredients:  1 ½ cups of fresh organic berries, a mixture of all three previously mentioned.  ½ cup of coconut milk (organic, can find at most grocery stores)  1 cup of water (make sure it’s purified) Instructions:  Easy, blend up all of your ingredients. If you have frozen organic fruit then you won’t need to add ice, but if your fruit is fresh and room temperature then add some ice and blend until the consistency is perfectly smoothie-like.  Enjoy. We mentioned before that detoxing is highly important, but these fruits can play a huge roll in your detoxing process- especially if you’re craving some extra flavor. Antioxidants prevent so many potential diseases. Like your grandma always says- an
  14. 14. apple a day keeps the doctor away. This is a very true statement. Daily organic fruit intake is vital. The most amazing kale smoothie you’ll ever have! Ingredients:  A simple handful of kale (fresh from an organic store preferred)  One cup of coconut water (again, organic found and most grocery stores)  Half of an apple, chopped up Instructions:  Kale can be difficult. Baby kale is easily found and blends much smoother than the kale that comes wrapped up with stems. If you choose the curly stemmed kale, chop the stems and only use the leaf portion. From that point, you’d need to chop the kale into smaller pieces. This is why baby kale is recommended, it’s much easier in the blender.  Blend all until the consistency is smooth, add ice if not cold enough. Kale is a superfood. There’s no doubt that it’s the ‘sure way’ of detoxing your body completely. It might just sound like a popular trend that everyone is playing around with, but rest easy. This leafy green will purify your body completely. Spicy herbal ginger smoothie- for the smoothie fanatics that like an extra ‘kick.’ Ginger root is the epitome of a 100% guaranteed detox. One, it’s very cheap. Two, it might already be in your pantry. Very easy. Ginger clears out the digestive tracts, bringing down gas and bloating. If you have a head cold, this combo is ideal- it breaks of mucus and congestion that’s been building up. We spoke previously that it has amazing effects, and combining it with cinnamon has an even better effect. It’s simple, heat burns fat and cinnamon has anti- inflammatory benefits as we previously discussed. This isn’t a smoothie that will feel like lava going down your throat, but if you are in love with spice, feel free to add a pinch of cayenne pepper. JUST A PINCH. Cayenne pepper almost acts as an antibiotic in certain ways. Ingredients:  One tsp of cinnamon (normal powder pantry brand is fine)  One fresh piece of ginger root (this is preferred, but if you don’t have it, you can substitute with two teaspoons of the powder)  One cup of water  A large handful of spinach (remember, you won’t taste it)
  15. 15.  Ice- as needed Instructions:  You don’t want to crunch fresh ginger when your drinking your smoothie. It’ll be extreme. Do yourself a favor and mince that ginger down until it’s completely smooth. If you have the powder, you can obviously skip that step.  Combine all ingredients and blend, add ice if needed. Another #1 morning smoothie to rejuvenate and energize. To maximize your detoxing efforts, use this smoothie as a meal replacement then start on your green tea after, or your detoxing tea of choice. This smoothie is jam-packed with antioxidant ingredients and detoxing effects that’ll make you ready to go for the day. Ingredients:  One tsp Turmeric  Soy based protein powder (organic and found at most health stores) one scoop  Organic orange juice ½ cup  One cup of water  Ice- as needed Instructions:  If you have a blender bottle (the ones that seal tight and are for shaking mixes- little metal ball inside), this would be perfect as it doesn’t need to be drank in smoothie form. You can still make it easily as a smoothie with the added ice. Tastes amazing regardless. Weight loss smoothie- let’s slim it down I don’t need to repeat the benefits of green tea for the hundredth time, so let’s just get straight to it. When you detox, you lose weight- simply put. Ingredients:  One cup of brewed green tea (organic) or one scoop of matcha powder (even better).  Soy protein powder, like the previous smoothie. Preferred vanilla in flavoring.  One half of a fresh peach Instructions:

Yes, you can evenbring detoxing into food! Jam made from an organic combination of detox perfection. Do you like prepping and canning? If so, this is for you. Trade in that market brand grape jelly filled with toxins, sugar, and fat, and push for making your own blend of sandwich toppings that are completely natural and packed with antioxidants and flavor. Ingredients:  Purified water- 8 cups  Six red hibiscus flowers, they can be dry or fresh.  ½ cup of dried (or fresh) rose petals  Rose hips- ½ cups dried or 1/4th cup fresh  One fresh pear  Black currants or elderberries, your choice- ½ cup  Pink lady apple (dried or fresh) or another apple with high scent and flavor  One peach (fresh or dried)  Juice one lemon  1 tsp organic vanilla extract  4 cups of organic sugar substitute (for weight loss)  Pectin- two packages Directions:  Begin by taking all of your fruit pitting it, whether it’s fresh or dry. Wash them all and cut into small pieces. Dice the hibiscus flowers carefully. In the meantime, bring four of your eight cups of water to boil with the rosehips and the hibiscus after they are chopped.  With your other four cups of water, bring to a boil the sugar. If you have chosen to use dried fried, you need to boil them in another pot until they have plumped back up and softened.  Boil all for roughly three minutes, stirring occasionally, and making your house smell amazing.  If you are using fresh fruit, add the fruit to the boiling mixture of your sugar water and stir as hard as you can- it should thicken at this point. When this is done, turn off your burners and let your pots of goodies rest for at least five minutes, but longer if you prefer a thicker consistency of jam.
  19. 19.  In a large bowl (enough to hold ALL of this), add your concoctions together. Add your pectin and stir until it is dissolved in the mixture, as well as your lemon juice and vanilla extract.  Get your jars ready- once everything has sat for a few minutes, pack your jars full of the mixture and seal them as tight as possible. You’ll have to boil the jars, which can take time. Only boil them for a few minutes, then use tongs to let them rest in warm water. Be careful. If the jars touch anything cold, they will explode and you’ll be cleaning goo off your kitchen walls all day.  Label your jars with a date, and store them somewhere cool and dark. These last for up to a year! It’s wonderful that by creating something as simple as an organic hibiscus tea, that you can make a whole jam spread out of it that lasts for a very long time and enables you to quit grabbing that $4 jar of junk at the store. The process might take some time, but only good things come from time and effort. Tea soup…what?! You heard right. You can make one of the most amazing soups you’ve had in your life based purely on tea with extra earthy and organic products. The soup we will focus on here is based on chai tie mixed with pumpkin and hazelnut. This soup was made to warm your soul on those cold chilly nights. Or, warm your soul regardless of the season. Your pick- either way it’s a win/win situation. Also, this is a very slimming alternative to any other type of soup or meal, and fills you up completely. This is one of your go-to tea recipes if your main goal is weight loss, and its’s absolutely simple! Ingredients:  One can of ORGANIC pumpkin puree, or fresh pumpkin that has been roasted. The organic puree will be your quickest and easiest option. Pumpkin acts in the same way that other super foods do. It is great for healing and can be added to your diet no matter what time of year it is. Pumpkins are packed with vitamins such as vitamin B, C, and E. They also contain magnesium, fiber, and potassium. Last but not least, carotenoids are one of the most vital nutrients found in this vegetable. To simplify things, carotenoids are responsible for making pumpkins orange, which also contain a massive amount of antioxidants. These antioxidants have been linked to studies that have proclaimed to fight off some of the worst diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. Also, carotenoids soak up fat. Again, great if you are trying to lose weight. Let’s move on.  Chai tea-hazelnut red flavor. You’ll want to use this tea (or a similar tea) for the most robust flavor. Chai is one of the most powerful teas flavor-wise, and adds that delicious spice. Chai tea reduces inflammation, and protects the cells in your body from the stress of toxins. Just like the pumpkin, vitamins and minerals are prevalent in this tea, as long as you get an all-natural and organic brand.
  20. 20.  Flavor enhancer (optional)- Himalayan sea salt. This sea salt, wherever you may find it (most likely online) is pink! It’s actually an ancient crystal that is taken from the tops of the Himalayan Mountains. If that isn’t already fascinating, wait until you hear the benefits. Not only does this provide an excellent flavor booster to the soup, it has 84 minerals. That means 84 health benefits. The minerals in this salt are already naturally found in our blood, but cleanses them out and replenishes them. Directions:  If you are going with the fresh pumpkin route, make it a small one (no more than 3-4lbs). Remove the pumpkins stem and clean the outside, take out the seeds, and start gutting it and dumping all the fleshy parts- as much as you possibly can- and place them all on a baking sheet. Drizzle organic coconut oil on the top so they don’t dry out. I won’t go into the benefits of coconut oil right now, though I should. However, this is all about tea benefits! Okay, all I will say is that coconut is good for anything and everything- not just cooking. Back to the recipe: Bake the drizzled pumpkin flesh for 45 minutes at 375 degrees F. You’ll know it’s done and ready to use when the flesh is completely soft and it basically falls apart when you fork it. You can either mush it all up until completely smooth and soft, but if you own a blender that would be your best option.  If you use the pumpkin puree, you’re done.  The tea will need to be brewed, and feel free to use as many packages as you want depending on how robust you want the flavor. This will be your basic stock. Bring it to a boil and let it seep in order to let the chai completely set in the water.  Mix both portions in a pot on your stove at medium heat, stirring occasionally, then let it rest. You can add the salt or not. Serve as is! There are many different recipes that contain herbal tea and help flush out your system and rid your organs and blood of all the toxins. It’s almost impossible to go wrong with organic tea and mixing them with organic products. Back to the coconut oil rant, you can even add that into your tea and stir, just a scoop. Coconut oil is a stunning product to amplify your detoxing program.
  21. 21. Chapter Six What NOT to do During your Tea Detox Tips, tricks, and guidelines on how to not mess this up. It’s surprisingly easy how easy it is to ruin your whole detox routine, even if you’re only detoxing for a day. For instance, if you are starting your tea detox tomorrow, please avoid a sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast biscuit from that fast food joint on your way to work. This should be a no-brainer, but some people believe that since they are detoxing themselves they can eat whatever they want. Not true. This chapter will primarily focus on how you will benefit best from detoxing by following a few simple guidelines on the simple things to avoid. By following these, you will get the best results for detoxing and dropping weight. Diet and exercise still needs to be involved While detoxing, you might notice a rapid weight loss. However, don’t expect this to be a constant miracle cure. At first, you might instantly drop a lot of the excess water weight you carry and the weight from bowels that have been backed up. On my first day of detox, I didn’t lose a single pound and was discouraged. Miraculously, by day two, I had dropped three pounds. By day three and four of matcha tea and green tea detoxing, only drinking water, and only eating COMPLETELY clean foods, I plateaued. I thought the whole ‘detox’ thing was a scam. Well, it’s not. By day four and five, I realized that by adding a mixture of the detox as well as mild yoga and cardio, the weight doubled down and I completely dropped a pant size in under a week. Keep in mind, this has to be done healthy. Detox and work out, even if you are doing something mild. Managing a balanced diet is another key property to a healthy detox. Setting a proper calorie budget based on your goal weight and eating clean and organic food will not only boost the detox effects, but it will start you in a routine that keeps you from relapsing into unhealthy diet ways. Cutting out fast food is your first priority. I know, we all do it from time to time. It’s there, quick and easy, especially if you are constantly on the go. This needs to stop! Your best option here is to meal prep. It only takes one night out of your week, and you will have premade healthy meals to pack with you to work or wherever it is you may go. A great meal prep is simple and only contains three items; organic and lean chicken breast, organic brown rice, and a vegetable or fruit of your choice (no, fruit jello cups don’t count.) Prep it all at once in bulk, and store it in tupperware. The night before, pack it all up into a lunchbox or a brown back if you want to go old-school, and you don’t have to rush through that drive-through fast food joint when you’re
  22. 22. driving around. It’s hard to not be tempted, but this is what’s best for you in the long run. Your health is the absolute most important thing you should focus on. Don’t let your detox interfere with your sleeproutine When your hectic day winds down and you’ve spent all day drinking caffeinated green tea, you need to switch it up in the evening. You will still need a completely organic tea, but give your body a detoxing rest and drink a tea that has no caffeine, such as chamomile or valerian root tea. Both of these teas will still provide you with an incredible amount of benefits, vitamins, and minerals. The only difference is that it’ll calm you down and settle your system. Detoxing, especially if it’s something you’ve never done before, can make your stomach upset. Not in a bad way- it’ll be a way that makes you feel clean and free of all the bowels locked up in your stomach that have been released from the detoxing laxative effects. These caffeine-free teas not only soothe your mind and enable you to rest, but they also settle an upset stomach and sore muscles from the workouts you’ve been adding to your detox. After a day of using your store-bought or homemade teas, the caffeine free calming teas will help you sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed. You’ll be ready to start your next day of detoxing! Watch out for scams It’s very easy to be suckered into online big businesses that campaign an ‘instant weight loss detox tea,’ or something of that nature. A lot of these will be clickbait. If you search “detox tea” in your web browser, you will come up with hundreds of thousands of ‘guaranteed 20lb weight loss,’ and titles along those lines that draw you in. These need to be avoided, as many of them contain unsafe ingredients that increase heart rate and contain so many of the toxins that you are trying to expel. Don’t fall victim to these gimmicks. With that being said, there are excellent online tea sellers that sell 100% natural and organic full leaf tea, herbs, spices, and bagged teas. You have to dig deep for these though, and always pay attention to customer reviews. This will be one of your biggest helps in decided if you want to order tea online. Check the ratings and reviews first, and always make sure what you are purchasing is proven organic. When to avoid tea detoxing 1. If you are not an adult. Tea detoxing has become a common fad in teenagers and younger girls to drop weight. If you are not an adult, don’t detox. Your body hasn’t fully developed. In fact, throughout life, our bodies are always changing but during the teenage years it’s important to stay away from using a detox to instantly drop weight. While the body is still changing from adolescence to mature, a detox can completely mess up a very young girl’s menstrual cycle permanently due to the fact that a detox can effect hormones. 2. If you are pregnant. There are still safe ways to detox while pregnant, but it’s still not recommended. Tea detoxing isn’t recommended if you are pregnant or nursing for many reasons. While drinking tea keeps you hydrated constantly, pregnant and nursing women need to intake healthy fats and store them for the fetus. Many herbs can be unsafe during
  23. 23. pregnancy. Since detoxing teas are laxatives, detox teas while pregnant can stimulate early labor. 3. If you have heart conditions. If you have an arrhythmia, regular heart palpitations and/or skipped beats, you should avoid caffeine in general. Caffeine increases your heart rate and can cause more palpitations or skipped beats. You can still detox using herbs that don’t contain caffeine, but the effect might not be as strong. If you have heart problems, it’s important to stay away from the heavily caffeinated teas such as green tea, matcha green tea, and chai. With that being said, you can still detox by eating clean, dieting and exercising, and drinking organic herbal tea that doesn’t have caffeine. 4. If you have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), or chronic stomach pain. If you already have IBS or stomach pain, constant cramping, and discomfort, then a laxative detox tea isn’t for you- just like the folks with heart problems. You’re in luck though, because many organic herbal teas such as chamomile not only soothes IBS and chronic stomach problems, but they can completely reverse them. 5. If you are underweight. If you are a few pounds underweight, a detox is completely safe. But if you struggle with anorexia or if you are way below your weight zone for your height and age, you shouldn’t detox for the purpose of more weight dropping. You can safely tea detox for the beneficial properties of toxin release, but your goal shouldn’t be to drop weight, especially if you have no more weight to lose. If you are extremely underweight, it is important to eat clean and healthy during your detox. Tea detoxing is very safe, there are only a few reasons you shouldn’t. It is natural and has too many positive benefits to give up. However, it’s important to be wise during your detox and not jump in head first into something you don’t know anything about. If you don’t know if you have a heart condition or if you may be pregnant, it’s best to hold off until you’ve consulted a physician. These guidelines will surely lead you to an amazing, healthy, and body-beneficial detox that will completely transform your body- inside and out.
  24. 24. Chapter Seven The Proof You Need Still feeling like this might not work? Science doesn’t lie. So, you’ve officially decided to start your detox. Congrats! Though you might now be excited and ready to start tomorrow, you might be wondering if this is just another trending fad and if it actually works in cleansing toxins out of your body and aiding you in your weight loss journey. Detoxing with tea and herbs works as an alternative medicine, and has been used for thousands of years to cure anything from aches and pains in the body to major illnesses. Herbs have been used since the BC times, even for just rubbing on a face for cleaning and glowing complexion purposes. Drinking green tea daily has been used for thousands of years in Asia and is still practiced to this day. The Asian population is amongst some of the longest living people. In this day and age, tea is the second most common drink- number one is of course water. Scientific proof suggests that green tea alone over time reduces cholesterol, and raises the good cholesterol in your body (HDL). In a study done of male smokers, drinking tea over time reduced LDL levels- the bad cholesterol. Cancer rates in Japan are very low. Studies also have shown that both green and black tea that are consumed regularly (such as the Japanese people with low cancer rates) can prevent and/or fight off cancer. There is not a way to be 100% sure, but so many studies have suggested that the polyphenols in green tea stop cancer cells from growing and completely destroy them in general. Polyphenols are the scientific word for very strong antioxidants that boost immune system and potentially reverse serious medical problems. Green tea also is a booster for weight loss. Clinical researchers have provided information that shows how green tea speeds up the metabolism and burns extra calories of those who are obese/mildly obese. Again, the best way to make this work is by exercising as well. Certain teas, as mentioned in previous chapters, ward of cold symptoms and flus, as well as alleviate symptoms associated with them. Green tea has been tested on animals to regulate blood sugar levels, which provides information that green tea can help alter glucose levels and either reverse type 1 diabetes, and help people suffering with type two diabetes. There are so many benefits to a tea detox. Not only for a short period, but turning a one-time detox to drinking tea daily can potentially expand your life expectancy and keep you healthy. If you choose to do a one-day detox, one week, or one month- remember how beneficial it will be
  25. 25. to your well-being. Likewise, keep in mind that you should stay away from a detox if you are pregnant/nursing, or have a serious heart condition. These teas do contain caffeine. Try out the amazing recipes provided and make it yours! Your options are limitless. Your detox journey has officially begun!
