keep this ppt as secondary source , this ppt is used for lesson morphological of flowering plants science grade 11th , a small part from that lesson , concentrate on aestivation as well as divisions based on ovary
3. Flower has four different kinds of whorls such as
calyx(SEPALS) , corolla(PETALS) ,
androecium(STAMEN) and gynoecium(PISTIL) ,
which are arranged successively on the swollen end of
the stalk
4. Calyx and corolla are accessory organ (supportive or
added to make it useful)
Androecium and gynoecium are reproductive organ
5. In some flowers like lily , calyx and corolla are not
differentiated , hence they are known as perianth
6. When a flower has both androecim and gynocium , it
is known as bisexual
A flower having either only stamen or only carpel , are
known as unisexual
7. When a flower can be divided into two equal halves in any
radial plane passing through the centre is called
actinomorphic (radially symmetrical) eg mustard etc
When a flower can be divided into two equal halves in one
particular plane then it is called zygomorphic ( billateral
symmetry) eg peas and bean etc
Which cant be divided to equal throught any mean is
called asymetric flower
8.
9. Flower can be classified based on number of petals
they have , such as trimerous , tetramerous ….
10. There are two types , bracteate and ebracteate
Flowers having reduced leaf at the base of the pedicel
called bracteate , and which do not have is ebraceate
11. Based on the position of calyx , corolla , and
androecium , the flowers are described as :-
1. Hypgynous
2. Perigynous
3. Epigynous
12. Hypogynous flower :-
• the gynoecium occupies the highest position while the
other parts are situated below it .
• The ovary in such flowers is said to be superior
Eg , mustard , china rose , brinjal
13. PERIGYNOUS FLOWER – if gynoecium is situated in
the centre and other parts of the flower are located on
the rim of thalamus almost at the same level , the
ovary here is said to be half inferior , eg
plum,rose,peach.
