3. AACR - a cataloging standard used in libraries for over 30 years.
invented in 1967 and
the second edition was released in 1978 (AACR2).
AACR2 provided guidelines for
Creating bibliographic records,
Describing the physical characteristics of items
Assigning subject headings.

AACR2 can be applied for almost all materials/ resources that
are available in a library:
Books
Papers
Magazines
Journals
Graphics [arts, paintings, maps, ect..]
Electronic resources [audiovisual materials and other analog
and digital materials]

library
E-books: Digital versions of books
E-journals: Electronic versions of scholarly journals
Online databases: Collections of digital resources that are searchable
Digital archives: Collections of digitized primary sources
Digital media: Audio, video, and image files

Non-book library items are more of a challenge to the cataloger than books.
*many different pieces of information available on the container and
the item itself can be confusing or difficult to understand.

Discoverability: Cataloging digital materials can also help to increase their
