2. Introduction:
-Peer educators is a student focused
group whose aim is to build the
capacity of students in peer
education, reproductive health
information services & increase to
access and utilization to a youth
friendly HIV/AIDs Prevalence on
behavioral change communication
(BCC)
-Young people feel more comfortable
receiving information from people of
the same age group rather than from
adults.(www.ippf,2009)
More students joining institutions of
higher learning with HIV are at risk
and their adulthood.
Young people aged 15-24 are also
being newly infected-45% of all new
adult infections.
Various programs on behavioral
intervention and policies have
focused on students of institutions of
higher learning:-needs of young
PLHIV have remained unmet.
Latest data indicate fewer than 40%
of young people have basic
information about sexuality, sexual
Health rights and HIV/AIDS.
3. Context continued:
Young people continue to face
considerable social and cultural barriers
to accessing comprehensive sexual and
reproductive health information and
services because sex and related matters
is a taboo.
Adolescent and youth-friendly sexual
reproductive Health rights services
provision is still at just 5% for all public
and private service
providers.(UPFYA,Policy and legislative
Agenda 2015/2016)
Only 10% of public health facilities in
Uganda provide youth friendly sexual and
reproductive health services(RHU,2014)
In sub-Saharan Africa,73% of all
approximately newly infected are
females.
4. Good will peer educators are young
people(ladies and gentlemen) who
make a difference in their communities
by volunteering their time,energy and
talents to educate others.
Aim to influence & change the
behaviors positively,attitudes and
practices of community members.
Peer -to-peer communication and
guidance and counselling for is for
promoting HIV prevalence prevention.
In this case behavioral interventions
and reduction on HIV prevalence is
realized towards Zero Aids.

5. methodology: Role of peer educators in
behavioral interventions
Safe male circumcision
Step 1:Identified outreach activity
conducted HCT by peer
educators through mobilization
Step 2: Peer educators exercise and discuss data
to identify issues concerning behavioral
components among students in their student drop-
in –center in kyambogo university.
HIV counselling & Testing Peer educators on data
decision making.

communication technique to guide
& counsel a respondent preparing
for SMC.

7. Results :
-HIV Testing and Safe male circumcision was recorded over a total of 8977.
-Out of 8977 ,6733 desired to get circumcised ,representing a percentage of 75% of the
males.
-Out of the number of students tested ,75 were tested positive, representing a percentage
of 1.2%
-5835 students Consistently used condoms representing a percentage of 65%.
