MULTIDISCIPLINRY NATURE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES.pptx
Rationale
1.
2. Importance of PDHPE
• In today's rapidly changing society children are
participating in more sedentary activities.
• The Australian Bureau of Statistics 2012 found
that 25% of children aged between 5-17 are
overweight or obese.
• Children should aim for at least 60 minutes of
physical activity each day, however 40% of
children are not meeting this required standard.
3. Importance of PDHPE
• PDHPE is an important part of primary
education, more so it is an essential
component of childhood development.
PDHPE offers a range of vital skills that
help children develop physical, social,
cognitive and emotional growth and
development patterns.
4. PDHPE helps children develop skills
such as
• Self confidence, self acceptance and acceptance of
others.
• Develop and maintain positive interpersonal
relationships.
• Knowledge to make healthy choices.
• Recognise safe and unsafe situations & how to react to
keep safe.
• Adopt physical activity habits - habits developed early in
life are more likely to be maintained later in life.
• Master fundamental movement skills - essential to early
childhood development.
• Enhanced decision and problem solving skills.
• Set and achieve goals.
5. The best life for Kids
• We all want children to reach their optimum
potential. Through the knowledge they attain in
PDHPE they are better able to choose a healthy
lifestyle and encourage others in the community
to make healthy choices. Children learn that
their thoughts affect the way they feel and this
encourages a greater acceptance of
themselves, others and diversity within the
community. Children are better able to actively
participate in a positive manner in the
community and feel a sense of belonging and
emotional fulfilment in their lives.
6. How can parents contribute
• PDHPE is most effective when parents
encourage positive health behaviours and
attitudes.
• Lead by example – be physically active
yourself.
• Set time limits on sedentary activities.
• Teach your children to make healthy food
choices.
