The Red Fort derives its name from the red-sandstone walls, which make the fort almost impenetrable. Qutub Minar: Qutab Minar is a rising, 73 m-high tower of victory, built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak. The tower has five different levels. The first three levels are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth levels are of marble and sandstone. Top Tourist Places to Visit In New Delhi Jama Masjid: Jama Masjid is, constructed in 1650–56 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, a famous investor in Islamic architecture whose most famous work is the Taj Mahal, in Agra. Jama Masjid is now the second largest mosque in India and is also an impressive example of Mughal architecture. The mosque was built by a team of some 5,000 workers. The major structure material was red sandstone, but some white marble was also used. 04 05 Humayun's Tomb:Humayun’s tomb is Placed near the crossing of Mathura Road and Lodhi road, this magnificent garden tomb is the first considerable example of Mughal architecture in India. It was built in 1565 A.D. nine years after the death of Humayun, by his oldest widow Bega Begam. Inside the walled inclusion, the most prominent features are the garden squares (Charbagh) with pathways and water channels, centrally situated well proportional tomb topped by a double roof. The Jantar Mantar: Jantar Mantar is located in the city of New Delhi. “Jantar Mantar” means “Instruments for measuring the harmony of the heavens”. It comprises 13 architectural astronomy instruments. The site is one of five built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, from 1723 onwards, revising the calendar and astronomical tables. The key determination of making the Jantar Mantar was to accumulate astronomical tables and to predict the times and movements of the sun, moon, and planets. Some of these purposes nowadays would be classified as astronomy. 06
