Blasting and Painting Inspection

the water and oil trap was install and air used was free from moisture) – ASTM D4285 (test of
compressed air).
- Production test such as blotter test on air compressor, checking the blasting pot, hose, air gun,
competent blasting personal etc. which is required to comply with safety requirement.
- Inspect the abrasive media to be free from moisture and contamination, the media use required
proper storage as per approved project procedure.
- Visual inspection on equipment that will be blasting to ensure that it is free from any of mechanical
damage, weld spatter, grease, debris, oil and others defect that can affected on poor quality of
painting.
- To ensure the blasting and painting was carried out at acceptable ambient temperature which is
can be recorded by Hygrometer. – Refer to Painting and blasting project procedure for value of
humidity and dew point.
- Verified the anchor profile after blasting, normally use testex or needle gauge. All painting shall be
following the Manufacturer Recommendation to ensure the coating free from defect.
- Witnessed the wet film thickness (WFT) checking during painting – use comb gauge.
- Witnessed the dry film thickness (DFT) with calibrated electromagnetic gauge.
- Visual inspection was carried out after painting to check the detrimental film, irregularities such as

5. lifting, peeling, mud cracks, blisters excessive sagging and other like insufficient coverage, color
variations, overspray, dry spray etc.
- Involved with the adhesion test (Dolly - pull off testing (ASTM D4541) and cross cut test) which
been carried out by competent paint personnel.
- Involved with the Holiday Test activity – check the continuity of protective coatings to detect
unacceptable discontinuities such as pinholes and voids.
