Procedure of Performing Umrah
1. Ghusl 4. Niyyah (Intention)
Ihram [Male pilgrims wear two unstitched cotton white sheets, whereas women wear scarf and gown
on simple stitched clothes before reaching Meeqat and declaring Niyyah (intention) for Umrah/Hajj]
2. Ihram
before reaching Meeqat
Cut the nails,
Trim the moustache,
Shave hair of the armpits,
remove pubic hair,
Have a bath (Ghusl) with
non-perfumed soap
or
just perform Wudu (ablution)
Do tawbah (Repentance)
by heart
Declare Niyyah (Intention)
of assuming Ihram
and offer two Raka't Nafl
In first raka`t recite Surah Al-Kafiroon
and in second raka`t Surah Al-Aklas
Al-kafiroon is to explicitly declare
renouncement of idol-worshiping,
Al-Aklas focus on tawheed (monotheism)
Remove Ihram from your head
Note; Don`t offer nafl in forbidden timings
O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah.
Make it easy for me and accept it from me,
and help me in its performing,
make it blessed for me,
I assumed Ihram for you

One of the white sheet (Izar) is wrapped around
the waist, and covers the area between the
navel and feet, the other sheet (Rida) is meant
for upper half of the body, covering shoulders
to navel. Wear sandals or slippers.
Women wear scarf and gown on simple clothes
but the clath should not touch the face.

Make Dua for your all the Muslims
“The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in
his absence will certainly be answered. Every
time he makes a supplication for good for his
brother, the angel appointed for this task says:
Ameen! May it be for you too” [Muslim]
O Allah! Bestow your favor on Muhammad
and on the family of Muhammad, as you have bestowed
Your favor on Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim,
You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.
O Allah! Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,
as you have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim,
You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.
Men are required to recite the
Talbiyah (3 times) loud,
whereas women say it with low voice
[Often repeat Talbiyah in the state of Ihram]

Ihram is to declare lawful things as Haram (unlawful) on oneself. After pronouncing niyyah and talbiyah by the pilgrim, certain permissible things becomes prohibited
If a pilgrim perform any prohibitive act (knowingly or unknowingly), he/she must pay a penalty (Dumm),
i.e., must sacrifice a goat/lamb, or must give one time food to six poor persons (Masaakin) in Makkah city, or must fast for three days

Note: There are no special Dua (Supplications) for performing the acts of Umrah, a person should recite any Dua, he/she wishes or remembers.
But one should try to perform all the rituals of Umrah and Hajj as closely to how the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) performed.

I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed Satan.”

After reaching Makkah Mukarramah, go to your residence (hotel),
Save your luggage there, take rest, eat/take some food/juice, and take ghusl/wudu.
Performing umrah is the process of 4 to 6 hours, therefore no need to do it in hurry,
when you feel fresh/healthy, move to Haram for performing the acts of Umrah.
Recite Dua, when entering the Haram
” In the name of Allah, all praises are due to him,
and salutations on the messenger of Allah,
O Allah! Forgive my sins
and open for me the gates of your mercy ”
[must keep your right foot first, while entering Masjid Al-Haram]

“In the name of Allah, enter the (mosque) and only upon him (Allah)
do I rely I am making the Intention of Sunnat-ul-I`tikaf”
First glance of Kabah
(This is the time of acceptance of dua)
Try to keep eyes on floor from entrance to stair down till Mutaaf, move
there right or left, Move up your eyes, you will find the Holy House.
Take the moment to savor the sight of Kabah and its magnificence
when your first gaze falls upon it. Recite the following words and dua.
Recite Darood sharif
“O Allah! I beseech You in this holy place
and in the first of my ceremonies to accept my repentance,
forgive my sins and relieve me of the load on my back.
All praise be to Allah who helped me reach the Holy House.
O Allah! I bear witness to You that this is Your Holy House
which You have made a refuge for men, a blessed place
and a guide for the worlds.
O Allah! I obey you, this city is Your city
and this House is Your House”

(Black Stone) with your face,
chest, and raise both hands as
in Salah and recite the following
Offer first Iste`laam by stretching
your arms with the palms
facing the Hijr-e-Aswad
Note: Green light must exactly be on your back
Turn your face to right
and formally proceed
for Tawaf
Male pilgrims are required
to perform “Ramal”
in the first three rounds of Tawaf
Ramal: Ramal refers to the practice of walking quickly (not running) , lifting the legs forcefully and sticking out the chest while moving the shoulders during tawaf, like as to imitate a warrior.
Performing Ramal is sunnah for the first three rounds before returning to normal walking pace for the final four rounds. If Ramal is not performed in first round, perform it in second and third,
and if not performed in first three rounds, then don`t perform in last four. Ramal is “Makrooh” to perform in all the seven rounds. Neglecting Ramal will not invalidate the Tawaf.

Drink zamzam to your fill
and pour some over your head
(Zamzam water purifies
the body and soul)

O' Allah! I am asking you for
beneficial knowledge and extensive
sustenance and a cure from all ills
Maqam-e-Ibrahim
Come to Maqam-e-Ibrahim reciting
And offer 2-Raka`t Nafl Salah
Wajib-ut-Tawaf
In first raka`t recite Surah Al-Kafiroon
and in second raka`t Surah Al-Aklas
Zamzam well, Chah-e-Zamzam …. (The zamzam well has been closed to the public now)
Zamzam Mubarrad (cold) and Ghair-Mubarrad (Normal) water coolers are placed
side by side in long rows near Mutaa`f. Ghair-Mubarrad (Normal) is batter to drink,
because Mubarrad (cold-water) becomes after applying some artificial process

except Allah alone, without partner.
To Him belongs all sovereignty and all
praise. He alone gives life and causes
death, and He is All-Powerful over
everything. There is none truly worthy of
worship except Allah alone, without
partner. He has fulfilled His promise, and
helped His servant, and He alone has
defeated the confederates.”

Dua for Safa & Marwah
“There is none truly worthy of worship
except Allah alone, without partner.
To Him belongs all sovereignty and all
praise. He alone gives life and causes
death, and He is All-Powerful over
everything. There is none truly worthy of
worship except Allah alone, without
partner. He has fulfilled His promise, and
helped His servant, and He alone has
defeated the confederates.”
Recite the following Aayat-e-Qura`n,
while moving towards Safa and Marwah
Indeed, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among
the symbols of Allah.
So, whoever makes Hajj [pilgrimage] to the
House or performs Umrah –
there is no blame upon him for walking
between them. And whoever volunteers
good – then indeed,
Allah is Appreciative and Knowing.
(Al-Baqarah [2] : 158
O Allah! Forgive and have mercy, you
are the all mighty, most noble

Distance from Safa to Marwah = 450 meters
Thus, Total Walk = 450 meters X 7 = 3.15 Km
All the seven circuits of Saa`ee should be performed continuously
If a pilgrim make long gap, he/she will have to perform all the 7-Circuits again
However, During the Saa`ee, at pray time the pilgrim must offer the pray behind
the Imam, and then perform remaining circuits of the Saa`ee
Saa’ee begins from Safa Hill
and
when a pilgrim reach to Marwah Hill,
it is counted as one circuit,
then from Marwah to Safa is second
circuit, again from Safa to Marwah is
third circuit …… In this way a pilgrim
complete seven circuits just in
three and half rounds
Use 7-beads` tasbeeh (counter)
to perform Saa`ee Circuits also
Note: Safa and Marwah Hills are not the
part of Masjid Al-Haram.
Therefore, leave Haram by keeping
left foot in the area of Safa and Marwah
and recite the following
O Allah, I ask you for tour bounty
When the male pilgrims reach
the point marked with green pillars
(Milayn Ai-Akhdharayn), they should start
running with medium pace and then
again resume the normal pace.
This is called Ramal.
Only men are required to perform
Ramal. Women should walk with their
usual pace

Jirranah ….. (26 Km from Makkah towards Ta`if)
Jirranah is a place
where 300 prophets (app.)
Assumed the state of Ihram
Hazrat Aayesha had put her Ihram
from this place
Performing one umrah
in one journey is Sunnah Act
Whereas, after coming to Makkah
and performing the initial umrah,
you will now be considered like the people
of Makkah (for the purposes of ihram ruling).
That means if you wish to perform
another umrah during your stay, you need
to go outside the haram of Makkah
and enter the state of ihram from there
(Nothing wrong)

Masjid Ayesha and Masjid Jirranah
(Hil Areas) serves as a Meeqat
for the people living
temporarily in Makkah
or for the women who could not
complete/perform umrah
on account of being in an impure
state due to menstrual period.
It is preferable to do the tawaf as frequently as we wish
while we are staying in Makkah.
If you are doing the second Umrah on behalf of a deceased
parent or relative, then this is perfectly appropriate.

Hajj is well-known months, so whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein [by entering the state of Ihram],
there is [to be for him] no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputing during Hajj.
And whatever good you do - Allāh knows it. And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allāh.
And fear Me, O you of understanding.
