DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGYPLAN FOR CLASSROOMS ANDSCHOOLS
1
Introduction
Technology has become an integral part of our society and we, as educators, are responsible to
prepare our students to live and work in an age rich with technology. Many teachers do not feel
prepared with the skills they need to integrate technology into their daily teaching routine.
According to Learning for the 21st Century “students need to know more than core subjects.
They need to know how to use their knowledge and skills-by thinking critically, applying
knowledge to new situations, analyzing information, comprehending new ideas, communicating,
collaborating, solving problems, and making decisions.”It is important that teachers have
opportunities to build not only on their knowledge and skills in the area of technology but to
learn ways to integrate the technology within their own curriculum. “Just knowing how to use a
computer is not enough. Instead, teachers must become knowledgeable about technology and
self-confident enough to integrate it effectively in the classroom.”
Technology
Technology used in the classroom is an integral part of the development of lifelong learning
skills. Technology allows us the opportunity to expand our student’s learning through reaching
out into the world around us that we would otherwise not be able to touch.Technology is not a
ends to mean, but a chance at inspiration. Having my students use technology will hopefully
inspire them to learn and have fun at school.
Developing technology plan for classroom and schools
The use of technology in teaching is very important in the modern day classroom, and teachers
should integrate instructional technology to enhance learning. Teachers must keep up with the
technological knowledge of their students in order to meet the expectations of today’s digital
natives, who are in a way, dependent to computers and other online instruments (Merç, 2015).
Technology can be used to enhance instruction through the use of technological devices in the
classroom. This paper will state the pros and cons of using technology to facilitate learning, the
differences between wired and wireless classrooms, and technological tools that teachers can
utilize in the classroom to enhance instruction.

Technology to be used in the classroom
“Interactive White Boards”
Interactive white boards are used in many schools today with the most popular brand being a
SMART Board. A SMART Board is a white board, computer, and projector all in one, which
uses touch controls to operate. SMART Boards invite students and teachers to collaborate
through social interaction and communication .A SMART Board also allows the teacher to save
all the material that it generates, so it can be revisited at a later date. SMART Boards give the
teacher access to a wide range of digital tools, which through their use, enables them to enhance
all subjects and content areas.

“Tablets”
Tablets are used in many schools today with the most popular brand being the iPad. An iPad is a
keyboard less, handheld computer with touch screen controls, and teachers can use them in the
classroom in many different ways. They can be used for individual work, group work, or as a
reward for students that have completed their work and maintained good behavior.
“Educational Apps”
Many teachers allow their students to use educational apps in the classroom, and through the use
of these apps teachers and students can communicate and collaborate. These apps are often
times free, and they have become a valuable tool for teachers to enhance learning. In addition,
teachers use these apps to reinforce curriculum, and to keep their students engaged. “The use of
technology in instructional activities plays an essential role for engaging students in learning”.
Software to Support Assessment
Assessments determine whether schools are meeting their educational goals, and they can serve
many purposes. Assessments improve student learning, improve the quality of learning
programs, monitor educational standards, and report on individual and group achievement.
“Socrative”
Socrative is a web tool that teachers can use in class to assess student learning, and it is easily
accessible through any computer or mobile device. By using Socrative, teachers can perform
formative assessments that provide instant feedback.Teachers can use Socrative in the classroom
by creating quizzes that assess their student’s learning. Teachers receive the quiz results
instantly, which means less time is spent grading and more time is available for instruction.
“Poll Everywhere”
Poll Everywhere is a web tool that teachers can use in class to assess student learning, and it is
easily accessible through any computer, smartphone, or tablet. Poll Everywhere allows teachers
to create live, online polls for their students, and using Poll Everywhere as a classroom tool can
be advantageous. Poll Everywhere can help teachers incorporate interactive learning into their
instruction sessions, encourage participation, and foster student comprehension.
“Quizlet”
Quizlet is a web tool that teachers can use in class to assess student learning, and it is easily
accessible through any computer, smartphone, or tablet. Quizlet is a free website that allows its
users to create digital flashcards and much more. Quizlet can be used to perform summative
assessments that provide the teacher with instant feedback. Students can use Quizlet in the
classroom by creating flashcards, playing games, and taking quizzes that assess their learning.

Technology Goals for my classroom
 Evaluate benefits of blogging (Fall 2010)
 Continue to reinforce learning using CompassLearning games (2010-2011)
 Take a virtual tour using the internet (Spring 2010)
 Expand on the idea of students blogging to other third grade students (2010-2011)
 Expand on CompassLearning-possibly use it for homework activities (2010-2011)
 Use Audacity to have the students be able to listen to themselves read. Have them save
them to listen to again later (2010-2011)
 Use Cyberbee Lesson-Copyrights (Fall 2010)
 Use blogs for data collection and analysis (2010-2011)
 Use the internet more to help parents stay active with their children’s learning (2010-
2011
 Students manage and maintain files on a hard drive or the network-My students complete
a research paper on the computers and are expected to save and open them again for later
use.
 Students proofread and edit writing using appropriate resources and grade level
appropriate checklists both individually and in groups-They use the computer to complete
their research paper.
 Students discuss how information and communication technology supports collaboration,
productivity, and lifelong learning-This is accomplished through their blog.
Importance of using Technology to Facilitate Learning
There are many benefits of using technology to facilitate learning. The students of today are
digital natives, and they have grown up in a world surrounded by technology. By using
technology to facilitate learning teachers are using a tool that their students understand and relate
to. While not all students have a desktop computer in their home, many students have some type
of technological device at their residence. Digital natives are accustomed to receiving
information through technology. ICT can be seen as an important tool to help relate school
experience to work practices, create economic viability for tomorrow's workers, strengthen
teaching, and help schools change. In addition, research shows that technological tools work very
well at keeping students engaged. Information Communication Technology has played a big role
in improving education, and has made a major impact in the classrooms of today.

Conclusion
In short, many online tools exist that teachers can utilize to enhance learning in and out of the
classroom. Teachers and students can access these tools through the use of computers, tablets
and mobile devices. In addition, educational software allows teachers to create interactive
lessons that keep their students engaged.
