1. INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
Bal Sudhar Griha(Juvenile Correctional Home) was established in 1978 According to the Act of
2048, Article 48, which states for the establishment and running of the center but formally ran in
2001 A.D. The ceneter is located in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur inside UCEP(Under-privileged
Childeren’s Education Programme) It is managed by UCEP Nepal in partnership with Ministry
of Women, Children and Social Welfare and Department of Prison. It works for the welfare of
the child along with increasing awareness. There are three homes run by UCEP Nepal. The first
home was established at Sanothimi, Bhaktapur in 2001, second at Pokhara, Kaski in March 2012
and the third one in Biratnagar in 2013. Juvenile Delinquents are benifited by those homes with
child friendly environment, formal education, counseling, moral education, health personality
development, vocational training and family reintegration activities. This organization is also
working together with Ministry and Juvenile Coordination Committee to extend homes in
regional level as well.
OBJECTIVES
To provide residential treatment service for maladjusted children and juveniles to give the
effect to the direction of the courts.

VISION
BSG(Juvenile Correctional Home) believes that a child cannot commit a crime as he/she is
considered physically and mentally incapable of doing so
2. PROGRAMME OF ACTION
1. Formal Education and Vocational Programme
Academic, generic and vocational knowledge and skills training programmes are
provided to residents to meet their educational needs. Even children, who were not going
to school before coming to BSG, are studying formal education due to encouragement
and motivation. It enhances their employability with recognized qualification upon
discharge from home.
2. Individual Counseling and Group Work
The Home's social worker introduces all the residents upon their admission and provide
social casework to understand their problems, help them settle down and complete the
programmes provided by the Home. The Home also prepares reports to the courtsin order
to understand the children's behavior in the remand period and decide on an appropriate
arrangement for their future.
The Home regularly organizes various programmesas group is divided into 5 different
groups: Sagarmatha, Gaurishankhar, Kanchanjunga, Machhapuchhre and Dhaulagiri.
Eventhough, there are five different groups, they work as a team. With the help of team
work, they develop healthy hobbies and enhance their sense of responsibility along with
social skills.
3. Recreational Activities
Recreational activities such as music appreciation, reading, art and creativity, dancing
role play and various group games are organized for the children to develop healthy
leisure pursuits.
4. Medical Care
The Home provides medical care. Health tasks, guidance and counseling on matters of
personal hygiene will be given. For children who require specialist's consultation, they
3. will be referred to specialists for medical advice and treatment. They are also introduced
to various excercises and meditations.
5. Guardian Visit
Parents or guardians are welcomed and encouraged to visit their children in the Home,
time and again. They can also contact their children besides school time (office time).
