  5. If thyroxine is low, hypothalamus secretes TRH to stimulate the anterior pituitary to secrete TSH. TSH stimulates the release of thyroxine. High levels of thyroxine in the blood inhibit secretion of TRH and TSH, which stops the release of additional thyroxine.
