Hello my name is Sydney Pullen and
I’m here to talk to you about Sir
Frances Drake. He was a great
explorer. Sir Frances Drake was born
in 1541 in Devon, England in a small
cottage made out of branches and
leaves. He died in 1596.
Sir Frances Drake led the second
expedition to sail around the world in
  a voyage lasting from 1577 to 1580.
The great Queen Elizabeth I
  commissioned Drake to command
  the expedition together with John
  Winter and Thomas Doughty. They
  left Plymouth, England, on December
13, 1577, with six ships. They sailed to
  Brazil, and through the perilous
  Strait of Magellan
At Tierra del Fuego natives gave Drake
and his crew food and water. They
sailed by Panama (1579), where he
 pirated Spanish ships and
settlements for food and treasures. He
landed on the island of Cano, off the
coast of southern Mexico. In North
America, he claimed the land he
called "Nova Albion" for the Queen.
Sir Frances Drake had 11 brothers. It
was not until around age 12 that Drake
first went to sea. He was an apprentice on
           .
a small trading ship to supplement the
family's income. The ship traveled up
and down the East coast, bringing salt-
water taffy and custom-made t-shirts to
all of the seaside resorts. It was not long
before the ship's owner died, leaving the
vessel to Drake. That’s why I think Sir
Frances Drake is The best ever explorer
ever.
