Media production roles- director, producer, boom operator-sound guy, camera operator, casting director, casting recruiter, colorist, concept artist, creature designer, mechanical
effects, video editor, Art director.
Creature designer- To be a creature designer is not difficult in the sense you don’t need any qualifications like GCSE’s or acknowledgments from further education. To get this job you must have
basic drawing skills and that’s about it if you’re hired for a basic low payed project. Although the qualification's are minimum you have to have good drawing abilities. The designer has to imagine
and apply the employers ideas into the work that is produced. When producing the work the creature designer has to consider the budget and see if the design is appropriate for the job at hand. You
work close with CG animators and art directors to ensure the best possible outcome and creation of the thing they are hired to create. The salary's for designers can range from 20-50 thousand
pounds a year. To go onto higher paying and more professional projects the designer will have had to work their way up and prove themselves with their previous work and understanding of
creature development. Or as a basic designer the average person could earn up to 200-240 pounds a day.
Cinematographer- The definition for cinematographer or director of photography (sometimes shortened to DP or DOP) is the chief over the camera and light crews working on a film, television
production or other live action piece and is responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image. To be successful cinematographer you need to have a bachelors degree,
although certain certificates and associates degree programs are accepted. Cinematographers play a crucial role in how a project Is developed, how it feels and looks as they are leading and working
with camera crews and the light in footage. Cinematographers should start accumulating film experience while still in school to ensure they have the skills for further education and so they can make
it easier to secure a job role in film and TV productions. The cinematographers salary can range from 20-87 thousand pounds annually although as a beginning cinematographer you can earn around
£1500 a day in commercials and music videos. Edward Grau who has worked on music videos with Lady Gaga encourages that the best qualities you can poses to become a successful
cinematographer are to have “A real passion, patience, leadership, taste, and a bit of luck.” As HD cameras are so readily available, anyone can make a movie which brings you to the fact that there
will be many young cinematographers out there that will be making better projects than you but also there will be people making worse than you. Although cinematography is a great way to present
ideas it is also a great way to borrow ideas from more experienced creators whether that be borrowing a landscape of a scene with the camera placement or taking in ideas from an interesting edit
you found. If its not copyrighting you can adapt anything you find. Another pro about being a cinematographer is that you can get exactly the look you want and you can tinker and play with footage
until you that look. If you’re not self employed, when being hired by an employer you need to take into consideration that you are sharing the vision with them. Your job is to create their vision and
include them in the production to ensure you’re conveying theirs and yours ideas productivly.

Client research:
Irn Bru is a unique tasting soft drink originating in Scotland. It was created in 1901 with a blend of 32 flavours, which at
its time was unique and excessive which made it a good selling drink. The recipe is known by only three people in the
world: the former Chairman Robin Barr, his daughter Julie Barr and the Director. It is said that the concoction of
ingredients is also locked inside a vault in Switzerland, far away from the grasps of the other soft drink competitors.
Irn Bru have a very unique way of making their advertisements’ on television. They just pass the boundaries on what is
acceptable for television and sometimes these ads do get banned. These ads normally consist of a misunderstanding of
gestures and how the words are said by the Scottish accent which make it sound like the person is swearing or doing
something that is not appropriate on watershed television. This entices the younger and more comedic side of the
audience whereas it angers the older and more blunt side of the audience which reflects on the people who drink it;
young adults and children. The edgy humour almost always connects to Scottish men's problems and dilemmas which
most young to middle aged men. This unique style is somewhat beneficial as it makes the ad memorable. For example
the snowman parody is on the most memorable advertising the last 40 years.
Irn Bru Goth holiday advertisement.
This ad follows 4 people depicted as ’’Goths’’. After drinking
the Irn bru in a dark room the 4 occupants are transformed
into happy souls that a full of life. In fact straight after one of
the people drink the Bru their makeup around their mouth
transforms into a smile. The satire of the next scene is
exaggerated as on their way to Blackpool they drive a hearse.
The group then emerge out of a colourful beach house in
contrasting black swimwear with surfboards that are in the
shape of coffins. The last scene consists of the four going on a
rollercoaster with open Irn Bru drinks which go all over them
but they're still happy and smiling which seems to be
presenting the fact that no matter what Irn Bru makes it good.
This is a different style of advert from the other irn bru ads, the
others normally tell an awkward situation with a male lead and
a sip of the bru gives him the power to deal with the situation.
Irn Bru don’t be a can’t advert
This ad depicts a young male lead who seems to be meeting his girlfriends parents.
The room’s silence is broken by the girlfriends dad asking when the male lead is
going into marry his daughter which puts stress on the character and leaves us as the
audience eager to know what the response will be. Which was a comedic “I don’t like
him, can we go now?’’ This reply is followed by the girlfriend telling him they cant go
which is then followed by the controversial line ”Don’t be a can’t”. The line is in a
Scottish accent which makes the line sound like a certain word but then is followed
by a ”you need a can”, the male lead then gives a can of bru to hi girlfriend, she
smiles, drinks and the scene changes to a club like place. The point of the ad and
many other irn bru ads is that irn bru gives you the power to change and evolve
around an awkward situation, obviously it doesn't but the humour generated
through the narrative and physical humour makes you want be part of the comedy.
The play on words is just extra which makes the audience remember the ad.
Another advert with the same word play is set in a care home, The male nurse says “I
hate it in here, can we go?” shortly after this an elderly man says “don’t be a cant”
and pulls two cans of the bru out from under a blanket. This scene is then followed
up by the two nurses being shot by the old man in his electric wheelchair at laser tag.
Fierry irn bru advert
This ad also focuses on the play on words by transitioning to another word
while the person on the previous scene was in the middle of swearing. The
words are emphasised by the fact they are elderly and they are made to say
the word by the power of the drink. The seemingly innocent elderlys’ start
by talking bout something about their personal life and community and they
compliment one of their family members that are usually the
grandson/daughter and say that they recommended it, this will inform the
audience that younger people drink it or give them a sense that they can
handle what the old people can’t.
“SHI-” “-TZU” Talking
about her dog
“Boll-” “-Locks”
Irn bru market research
Irn bru is part of the soft drinks market, one the most difficult markets to get into. I believe the advertisements of irn Bru
are one of the main reasons its still on shelves, Although the drink has a unique taste, its in the same category of many
other drinks in shops. The ads are in a league of their own with brands like pot noodle having the same similar edgy
adverts on tv. One pot noodle ad follows a young man training like a boxer and saying he eats pot noodle because its “less
time cooking, more time chasing my dreams. "This tries to tell the audience you can chase your dreams more with pot
noodle so he can focus on his training. The scene changes to him in the middle of the road in “Vegas!”. We, as the
audience, are led to believe he is fighting in the ring but we don’t see his face until we see him come from the side of the
ring dressed in a bikini being the score bored person who is usually a woman. Although, these pot noodle ads are
controversial to some of the audience, its nowhere near
the level where irn bru is, its very similar in its comedy
though
Market research-Coca Cola competition
Coca Cola is obviously by far the worlds favourite soft drink in mot countries except the select few. Scotland is one of
them and “irn bru 32” which was launched in 2006 has been Scotland's favourite drink ever since. Although this is their
favourite Coca Cola is still their second favourite soft drink. Coca cola’s way of advertising on television is quite different to
how irn bru advertises. For example, the newest advert coca cola has released showing “coke zero” is conveying the fact
to the audience that coke zero tastes the same as full fat cola.
Idea Generation:
Idea Generation:
Son comes home with friend and meets dad. The friend asks the dad if theres any food in and starts rumaging through the
fridge knocking stuff over, the dad opens and, takes a sip of irn bru and says "i think there is some, leftovers in the fridge".
The friend continues to rummage through the rest of the cubbords andknocks over a family photo and other valuble
things like ashes. the dad then takes amother sip and says "we needed new picture frames anyway" the irn bru credits
scene happens and after this the friend is sat there with a massive pile of food on a plate and says "im full”.
Idea Generation: After this he could then take a sip
smile and say a Scottish slang
word to show he's happy.
Idea Generation:
An Irn bru bottle could be substituted for the milk carton and it could
go on its own little journey
We could use string puppetry and and just move the can with our
fingers in closer shots
Idea Generation:
Group Idea: Can battle This is an idea of the movement of
the cans we were going to use,
The finished project did not include
anything like this but as we were
hooting the footage we did throw
the cans at each other, Instead we
built up tension with camera
movements and slightly moving the
can with our fingers out of the shot
and I thought slight movements like
that worked better when editing the
advert.
Planning Docs (TV Advert):
Structure-linear- beginning, middle, end.
Shot list- 1-start at the back of the irn bru and the camera pans round left to show the coke can. 2- separate shots of the
cans eyes are shot looking like they're angry.3-they then battle 4- irn bru presentation shot.
Crew responsibilities-all shared
Prop list-Irn bru can, coke can, googly eyes, cut-out paper like eyebrows and bluetac.
Location-college classroom
Planning Docs (Advergame):
Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning.
You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here.

  • 2. Info-graphic Research: Put your info-graphic research here. Use this space to collate information and write notes. If you prefer to write notes on paper, then scan those notes and add them here. You will need to copy and paste this slide several times. Media production roles- director, producer, boom operator-sound guy, camera operator, casting director, casting recruiter, colorist, concept artist, creature designer, mechanical effects, video editor, Art director. Creature designer- To be a creature designer is not difficult in the sense you don’t need any qualifications like GCSE’s or acknowledgments from further education. To get this job you must have basic drawing skills and that’s about it if you’re hired for a basic low payed project. Although the qualification's are minimum you have to have good drawing abilities. The designer has to imagine and apply the employers ideas into the work that is produced. When producing the work the creature designer has to consider the budget and see if the design is appropriate for the job at hand. You work close with CG animators and art directors to ensure the best possible outcome and creation of the thing they are hired to create. The salary's for designers can range from 20-50 thousand pounds a year. To go onto higher paying and more professional projects the designer will have had to work their way up and prove themselves with their previous work and understanding of creature development. Or as a basic designer the average person could earn up to 200-240 pounds a day. Cinematographer- The definition for cinematographer or director of photography (sometimes shortened to DP or DOP) is the chief over the camera and light crews working on a film, television production or other live action piece and is responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image. To be successful cinematographer you need to have a bachelors degree, although certain certificates and associates degree programs are accepted. Cinematographers play a crucial role in how a project Is developed, how it feels and looks as they are leading and working with camera crews and the light in footage. Cinematographers should start accumulating film experience while still in school to ensure they have the skills for further education and so they can make it easier to secure a job role in film and TV productions. The cinematographers salary can range from 20-87 thousand pounds annually although as a beginning cinematographer you can earn around £1500 a day in commercials and music videos. Edward Grau who has worked on music videos with Lady Gaga encourages that the best qualities you can poses to become a successful cinematographer are to have “A real passion, patience, leadership, taste, and a bit of luck.” As HD cameras are so readily available, anyone can make a movie which brings you to the fact that there will be many young cinematographers out there that will be making better projects than you but also there will be people making worse than you. Although cinematography is a great way to present ideas it is also a great way to borrow ideas from more experienced creators whether that be borrowing a landscape of a scene with the camera placement or taking in ideas from an interesting edit you found. If its not copyrighting you can adapt anything you find. Another pro about being a cinematographer is that you can get exactly the look you want and you can tinker and play with footage until you that look. If you’re not self employed, when being hired by an employer you need to take into consideration that you are sharing the vision with them. Your job is to create their vision and include them in the production to ensure you’re conveying theirs and yours ideas productivly.

  • 6. Client research: Irn Bru is a unique tasting soft drink originating in Scotland. It was created in 1901 with a blend of 32 flavours, which at its time was unique and excessive which made it a good selling drink. The recipe is known by only three people in the world: the former Chairman Robin Barr, his daughter Julie Barr and the Director. It is said that the concoction of ingredients is also locked inside a vault in Switzerland, far away from the grasps of the other soft drink competitors. Irn Bru have a very unique way of making their advertisements’ on television. They just pass the boundaries on what is acceptable for television and sometimes these ads do get banned. These ads normally consist of a misunderstanding of gestures and how the words are said by the Scottish accent which make it sound like the person is swearing or doing something that is not appropriate on watershed television. This entices the younger and more comedic side of the audience whereas it angers the older and more blunt side of the audience which reflects on the people who drink it; young adults and children. The edgy humour almost always connects to Scottish men's problems and dilemmas which most young to middle aged men. This unique style is somewhat beneficial as it makes the ad memorable. For example the snowman parody is on the most memorable advertising the last 40 years.
  • 7. Irn Bru Goth holiday advertisement. This ad follows 4 people depicted as ’’Goths’’. After drinking the Irn bru in a dark room the 4 occupants are transformed into happy souls that a full of life. In fact straight after one of the people drink the Bru their makeup around their mouth transforms into a smile. The satire of the next scene is exaggerated as on their way to Blackpool they drive a hearse. The group then emerge out of a colourful beach house in contrasting black swimwear with surfboards that are in the shape of coffins. The last scene consists of the four going on a rollercoaster with open Irn Bru drinks which go all over them but they're still happy and smiling which seems to be presenting the fact that no matter what Irn Bru makes it good. This is a different style of advert from the other irn bru ads, the others normally tell an awkward situation with a male lead and a sip of the bru gives him the power to deal with the situation.
  • 8. Irn Bru don’t be a can’t advert This ad depicts a young male lead who seems to be meeting his girlfriends parents. The room’s silence is broken by the girlfriends dad asking when the male lead is going into marry his daughter which puts stress on the character and leaves us as the audience eager to know what the response will be. Which was a comedic “I don’t like him, can we go now?’’ This reply is followed by the girlfriend telling him they cant go which is then followed by the controversial line ”Don’t be a can’t”. The line is in a Scottish accent which makes the line sound like a certain word but then is followed by a ”you need a can”, the male lead then gives a can of bru to hi girlfriend, she smiles, drinks and the scene changes to a club like place. The point of the ad and many other irn bru ads is that irn bru gives you the power to change and evolve around an awkward situation, obviously it doesn't but the humour generated through the narrative and physical humour makes you want be part of the comedy. The play on words is just extra which makes the audience remember the ad. Another advert with the same word play is set in a care home, The male nurse says “I hate it in here, can we go?” shortly after this an elderly man says “don’t be a cant” and pulls two cans of the bru out from under a blanket. This scene is then followed up by the two nurses being shot by the old man in his electric wheelchair at laser tag.
  • 9. Fierry irn bru advert This ad also focuses on the play on words by transitioning to another word while the person on the previous scene was in the middle of swearing. The words are emphasised by the fact they are elderly and they are made to say the word by the power of the drink. The seemingly innocent elderlys’ start by talking bout something about their personal life and community and they compliment one of their family members that are usually the grandson/daughter and say that they recommended it, this will inform the audience that younger people drink it or give them a sense that they can handle what the old people can’t. “SHI-” “-TZU” Talking about her dog “Boll-” “-Locks”
  • 10. Irn bru market research Irn bru is part of the soft drinks market, one the most difficult markets to get into. I believe the advertisements of irn Bru are one of the main reasons its still on shelves, Although the drink has a unique taste, its in the same category of many other drinks in shops. The ads are in a league of their own with brands like pot noodle having the same similar edgy adverts on tv. One pot noodle ad follows a young man training like a boxer and saying he eats pot noodle because its “less time cooking, more time chasing my dreams. "This tries to tell the audience you can chase your dreams more with pot noodle so he can focus on his training. The scene changes to him in the middle of the road in “Vegas!”. We, as the audience, are led to believe he is fighting in the ring but we don’t see his face until we see him come from the side of the ring dressed in a bikini being the score bored person who is usually a woman. Although, these pot noodle ads are controversial to some of the audience, its nowhere near the level where irn bru is, its very similar in its comedy though
  • 11. Market research-Coca Cola competition Coca Cola is obviously by far the worlds favourite soft drink in mot countries except the select few. Scotland is one of them and “irn bru 32” which was launched in 2006 has been Scotland's favourite drink ever since. Although this is their favourite Coca Cola is still their second favourite soft drink. Coca cola’s way of advertising on television is quite different to how irn bru advertises. For example, the newest advert coca cola has released showing “coke zero” is conveying the fact to the audience that coke zero tastes the same as full fat cola.
  • 13. Idea Generation: Son comes home with friend and meets dad. The friend asks the dad if theres any food in and starts rumaging through the fridge knocking stuff over, the dad opens and, takes a sip of irn bru and says "i think there is some, leftovers in the fridge". The friend continues to rummage through the rest of the cubbords andknocks over a family photo and other valuble things like ashes. the dad then takes amother sip and says "we needed new picture frames anyway" the irn bru credits scene happens and after this the friend is sat there with a massive pile of food on a plate and says "im full”.
  • 14. Idea Generation: After this he could then take a sip smile and say a Scottish slang word to show he's happy.
  • 16. An Irn bru bottle could be substituted for the milk carton and it could go on its own little journey We could use string puppetry and and just move the can with our fingers in closer shots
  • 18. Group Idea: Can battle This is an idea of the movement of the cans we were going to use, The finished project did not include anything like this but as we were hooting the footage we did throw the cans at each other, Instead we built up tension with camera movements and slightly moving the can with our fingers out of the shot and I thought slight movements like that worked better when editing the advert.
  • 19. Planning Docs (TV Advert): Structure-linear- beginning, middle, end. Shot list- 1-start at the back of the irn bru and the camera pans round left to show the coke can. 2- separate shots of the cans eyes are shot looking like they're angry.3-they then battle 4- irn bru presentation shot. Crew responsibilities-all shared Prop list-Irn bru can, coke can, googly eyes, cut-out paper like eyebrows and bluetac. Location-college classroom
  • 20. Planning Docs (Advergame): Use the Irn Bru Project UAL 2017 presentation to see the planning requirements. Include all the required planning. You may need to copy this slide several times, so you can fit all the work on here. What sounds will be in your video? How could you make them? Gunshots, theme tune, health depletion, explosion The system to shoot your apponent will be on a Character jumping > A ruler being twanged on a desk What dialogue might you include if any?
