TODAY’S SPEAKER
MARK EWING
Senior Programming Manager
Cox Communications
After a long career in television broadcast
news as a sports anchor, reporter, and
director, Mark Ewing joined Cox
Communications in 2008. His primary
responsibility is the management of local
origination channel Kansas 22, which is
available in the 90 cities served by the Cox
Communications cable system. Billed as
“border to border television, exclusive and
in your neighborhood”, Cox Kansas 22 is
currently at an all-time high in its popularity
due to the continued addition of unique and local programming. Ewing
has had a front row seat for many memorable sporting events during his
three decades in broadcast and cable television.
In his six years with Cox Communications, Ewing has assembled all the
working parts to a successful channel, acquiring and organizing live
coverage of events involving the state’s division I teams in Kansas, K-
State and Wichita State. Ewing serves as play-by-play voice, executive
producer and show host of several Cox Kansas 22 programs including
the Shocker Sports Report. He also helped lay the groundwork for
coverage of small college events on the MIAA Network as well as the
KJCCC. Included in the list of live television programming is Friday Night
Live, which has become a popular staple of the high school football
season in Kansas.
In 2011, Cox Kansas 22 received a national cable award called the Telly,
for best live event coverage. And in 2012, Ewing was awarded as the
Kansas sportscaster of the year by the state’s association of athletic
administrators.
During his career as a local television sportscaster, Ewing worked in five
markets, KSNK in Oberlin-McCook, KSNF in Joplin-Pittsburg, WLUK in
Green Bay, KWCH in Wichita, and WIBW in Topeka. Awarded 15 times
by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for best sportscast, best 30-
minute show, and best commentary, Ewing has also received an NALTS
Diamond for best breaking news coverage.
Married to Carrie for 18 years, Ewing currently resides in Bel Aire. He is
a former KU Basketball letterman who graduated from the William Allen
White School of Journalism, and also holds an Associate of Arts from
Cloud County Community College in Concordia.

Guests: We had 23 guests in attendance at our Christmas luncheon
CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our Nominating Committee is working on nominations for our 2014-15
Board of Officers and Directors. Once secured, the list will be
presented to our Board then to our membership for approval. The
Nominating Committee consists of our past, current and incoming Club
Presidents, chaired by Paul Blissett, immediate Past President.
Just a reminder to get your Rotary Foundation contributions in before
the end of the year. About the Foundation: The Rotary Foundation is a
not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International
to achieve world understanding and peace through international
humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is
supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of
the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. Foundation
recognitions: Anyone who contributes $100 or more per year to the
Annual Programs Fund will be recognized as a Sustaining Member.
Anyone who contributes – or in whose name is contributed – a gift of
$1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund may become a Paul Harris
Fellow. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative
certificate and a Paul Harris Fellow pin. Donors are eligible for Paul
Harris Fellow recognition when their cumulative giving reaches $1,000.
We are in need of host families for our Rotary Inter-country Teacher
Exchange (RITE) Program. Please consider the possibility of hosting.
Dalia Hale (Sunrise Rotary Club) has arranged the teachers and Shelli
Kadel and Kerry Sabala are working to set the host schedule. We have
teachers coming this year from Buenos Aires, Argentina and David and
Boquete in the province of Chiriquí in Panama. Five female and possibly
1-2 males. They will arrive Saturday, January 18 and stay through
Saturday, February 15. We have not had five since 2010. It will require
20-24 hosting spots to be filled. The usual hosting time is a week at a
time (weekend to weekend). However, Shelli has been very creative in
the past to help families meet their own needs as well as the teachers.
The host families are known to tag team a lot to help one another get the
teachers to their locations. This project is sponsored by our two west-
side Rotary clubs but area Rotarians are welcome to host as well. The
teachers are a delight and they love being here. You do not have to stop
your lives to welcome them into their home. Please contact Shelli or
Kerry if you have any questions or if you are interested in hosting.
The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Just a reminder to get your Rotary Foundation contributions in before the end of the year. About the Foundation: The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. Foundation recognitions: Anyone who contributes $100 or more per year to the Annual Programs Fund will be recognized as a Sustaining Member. Anyone who contributes – or in whose name is contributed – a gift of $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund may become a Paul Harris Fellow. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate and a Paul Harris Fellow pin. Donors are eligible for Paul Harris Fellow recognition when their cumulative giving reaches $1,000. We are in need of host families for our Rotary Inter-country Teacher Exchange (RITE) Program. Please consider the possibility of hosting. Dalia Hale (Sunrise Rotary Club) has arranged the teachers and Shelli Kadel and Kerry Sabala are working to set the host schedule. We have teachers coming this year from Buenos Aires, Argentina and David and Boquete in the province of Chiriquí in Panama. Five female and possibly 1-2 males. They will arrive Saturday, January 18 and stay through Saturday, February 15. We have not had five since 2010. It will require 20-24 hosting spots to be filled. The usual hosting time is a week at a time (weekend to weekend). However, Shelli has been very creative in the past to help families meet their own needs as well as the teachers. The host families are known to tag team a lot to help one another get the teachers to their locations. This project is sponsored by our two west- side Rotary clubs but area Rotarians are welcome to host as well. The teachers are a delight and they love being here. You do not have to stop your lives to welcome them into their home. Please contact Shelli or Kerry if you have any questions or if you are interested in hosting. The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
