THE INFLUENCE OF CELL PHONES
Cell phones have a strong In
fl
uence on people. They
can do anything and everything. Personally my entire
life is on my phone. I have my personal life and my
professional life on it. I also use my cell phone to check
on school assignments and updates. I cannot speak for
other people but I am sure I am not the only one who
feels the same way I do about my cell phone. I never
go anywhere without it so that leaves me to believe I
am in
fl
uenced by my cell phone and what I can do on it.

THE FIRST CELL PHONE
The
fi
rst cell phone was made in April 3, 1973, by Martin Cooper. The cell phone
at that time was big a bulky weighing at 2 1/2 pounds and described as being the
size of a shoe. It allowed a person to only talk for 35 minutes and took 10 hours to
charge (Gibson, 2018).
A Motorola executive demonstrates a "shoe" phone in New York City. The

on a handheld cellular phone was made on April 3, 1973.

THE FIRST CELL PHONE
The
fi
rst cell phone paved the way for the cell phones we have today. Their goal
was to make the cell phones less bulky and able to do more. Motorola spent 10
years to design a phone that last slimmer than the previous model (Gibson,
2018). They were able to get the weight down to 16oz but the phone would cost
between $3,500 and $4,000. At the time (1983) $3,500 was a lot of money not a
lot of people had. Which made the cell phone a luxury item.

THE FIRST CELL PHONE TO THE NEW CELL PHONE
The purpose of the
fi
rst cell phone was talking. But, later developers added in
voicemail, while still focusing on the talking feature. After a while developers
created the
fi
rst “smartphone” which allowed users to access email, and use the
phone as a fax machine, pager, and address book (Ray, 2015).

6. Today smartphones can be used to do anything. From the original features of talk
and voicemail to browsing social media and taking pictures. The size of
smartphones today are smaller than the
fi
rst cell phone. Since the evolution of
smartphones, things like cameras have become obsolete. Since, most smart
phones have cameras which take the same quantity of pictures as a camera
would.

Cell phones today are used in very way.
Whether it is to call or text someone to
browsing social media. Almost everyone
nowadays has a smartphone. They are a
prominent part of pop culture. It is popular
to have the newest and coolest phone on
the market. Cell phone brands often use
celebrities to endorse their cells phones
so “normal” people will go out and buy
them. Every time there is a new cell phone
creators will hold a pre-release event to
show off what the phone can do, which
creates excitement for the next phone.
