2. What is capitalization?
• capitalization," we mean writing a word with the
first letter capitalized and the rest in lowercase.
• The use of capital letters in writing or printing
For example: London, English, Jason.

3. When do we use capitalization?
1) We use capitalization for the first word in a sentence.
2) We use capitalization with proper nouns. (The names
of people, places and things).
Example:
• The capital of the France is Paris.
• My best friend, Peter, is a photographer, he works for the
National Geographic Magazine.
• I visited a Hindu temple during my trip to South Asia.

4. What are the rules in capitalization?
• Here are some basic rules in capitalization.

5. • First Word Rule #1: Sentences
• Capitalize the first word in declarative, interrogative,
imperative, and exclamatory sentences.
• For example:
• Sen. Raffy wants to help Megan Aguilar, but she failed
the hair follicle drug testing.
• Is the price of onions decreasing?

6. • First Word Rule #2: Sentences
• Capitalize the first word of a complete sentence following a
colon. If a list or dependent clause or phrase follows a
colon, it is not a complete sentence and, therefore, no
capital letter is used.
• For example:
• The Philippines is currently facing three major challenges:
unemployment, economic recession, and increased
military tensions.

•Capitalize the first word in the quotation at the
quotation is a complete sentence.
For example:
•I always loved the picture Muir paints with his words
when he wrote, “In every walk with nature one

For example:

to be done before Friday.
