sharp and sustained downturn periods,
well beyond what is experienced in

What are the advantages of a fund
structure for investing in Bitcoin or
other cryptocurrencies?
A fund provides more resilient returns
across cycles through a managed,
diversified portfolio of researched
positions. Though Bitcoin is the first and
largest example in this new asset class,
there are over 7,000 cryptocurrencies
(and increasing) in existence today.
Each seeks to bring some particular
advantage to different verticals of the
USD 300-Trillion global financial market.
As these digital asset verticals mature
over the next 5-7 years, we anticipate
the strongest adoption from a set of
“best-in-class” token projects. Outsized
returns will come from a carefully
curated and maintained basket of these
holdings.
What crypto projects do you con-
sider successful? What do you look
for?
Our performance has come from
selecting projects addressing the
broadest market segments with the best
innovation in areas like money and
banking, securities, real estate, insur-
ance, legal, and logistics. To achieve
this, we examine project design trade-
offs between security, decentralization,
and scalability. And here’s a big test: Do
they actually do something important in
a better way than existing architec-
tures? Not everyone who uses a
blockchain is offering a solid invest-
ment.
What risks do investors need
protection from?
While returns have been great, this new
asset class is still in early innings, and
investors face a variety of significant
event risks. These areas include:
technical risks, like network security and
software bugs; operational risks,
particularly in custody and trading, since
these are bearer instruments and there
is no 1-800-HELPME line to rewind any
mishandling; and economic and volatil-
ity risks, which are global in nature and
often more dramatic than traditional
markets. All these require a depth of
technological and “tokenomic” under-
standing to assess, manage, and
mitigate effectively in a portfolio.
