We are delighted to submit this capability statement identifying our experience in delivering successful building
services design.
We have provided a glimpse of a few projects that represent the range of buildings and design scope that we are
regularly called to deliver.
From concept and planning through to detailed design and construction supervision, project size is no hurdle, our
engineers will bring their considerable experience to bear.

clients and architects to develop the Employers’ Requirements, to preparation of detailed design drawings and

7. Our heritage
Andrew Reid is a specialist commissioning, design and
diagnostic consultancy. Formed in 1970 to provide
professional engineering expertise relating to the design
and commissioning of mechanical and electrical building
services works, the company continues to be recognised
as a leading brand in providing practical solutions to ever
complex building services engineering issues.
The company was formed when Andrew Reid left Haden
Young to establish a consulting engineering practice
intent on providing a very high level of service and
technically excellent engineering designs.
As the firm’s reputation for excellence grew, commissions
were received in the Arts sector, notable for the Guildhall
School of Music, the National Theatre and the Barbican
Arts Centre.
In 1982 we began working for J.Sainsbury’s. We have
continued working, either directly or indirectly for them
ever since and have been engaged on the vast majority
of their stores, nationwide. As a result of this relationship
we were invited to undertake design work for The National
Gallery; here too, we have continued to work for the
Gallery continuously ever since.
The Broadgate development in London was a significant
project and in 1983 Andrew Reid was appointed on the
first of all fourteen phases of commissioning management
in this highly prestigious project.
The relationship with British Land (Broadgate) and the
contractors involved continued to flourish and we
were routinely appointed to design or manage the
commissioning of the engineering services on other high
profile projects including Ludgate, ITN’s new headquarters
in the Grays Inn Road and interestingly, Barings Bank just
prior to it’s demise.
1997 saw the beginning of a relationship with Deutsche
Bank which has continued to this day, with the
commissioning management of their new London
headquarters at Winchester House. We have been
involved on their estate throughout the UK ever since and
additionally have travelled across the globe on various
Deutsche Bank commissions.
The late 1990s saw the birth of the data centre sector and
we were there at the start. In view of the highly complex
engineering involved it is a sector in which we have
continued to flourish, serving clients internationally.
In April 2011 ISO 9001 was achieved in respect of the
design and commissioning of engineering services and
a new company was formed, Andrew Reid (Consulting
Engineers) Ltd.
The company has continued to thrive through the recent
recession, doubling in size and working across Europe for
other blue chip corporates in their vast, critical facilities.
In September 2014, Hurley Palmer Flatt Group Ltd.
acquired a majority shareholding in the company.
Today, the company continues to successfully service
end user clients and contractors in facilities including
high quality residential, commercial offices, data centres,
galleries, healthcare, laboratories, museums, retail outlets
and other specialist buildings.
We are have offices both in the UK and Dubai.

19. Our services
Diagnostic and recovery
As a result of the balanced strength of the practice’s
design and field work, it has been engaged for
many years now in diagnostic and remedial work on
mechanical and electrical engineering systems which are
not providing satisfactory performance.
In the event that major refurbishment work is necessary
then our commissioning engineers and design engineers
work together to produce a rescue design package to
return the building services to proper working order.
It is this ability to apply the correct level of technical input
at the appropriate stage, working as a team, that enables
us to carry out rectification work which routinely results in
a building gaining a new lease of life at lowest cost and
disruption.
Surveys and analysis
Our clients have a need to know and our engineers are
very skilled in preparing detailed reports to facilitate that.
They are well versed in surveying and analysing data.
Commissioning
The commissioning role can be tailored in a number of
ways to suit the project requirements. We offer a number
of service options:

Design
We produce a far more comprehensive set of design
drawings than is normally forthcoming in modern project
work and apply our practical application knowledge to
this design work. The result of this approach is that the

intended to minimise the risk of on-site co-ordination issues

Continuous commissioning
Continuous commissioning is the systematic process by
which clients ensure that their buildings and systems are
optimised to perform interactively to meet the current
operational needs as closely as possible.
It is easy to consider that there is every likelihood that a
building which is designed for a given criteria, never has
that criteria actually been matched in use. This can cause
a significant amount of energy wastage and discomfort
for occupants.
When we look at a building which is or is suspected of
not performing well we are able to get to the bottom
of the problem. There are frequently straightforward
elements which can mean that energy is being wasted, or
anenvironment is uncomfortable. Sometimes however it is
not straightforward and investigations into what is causing
the building to work as it does are required.
Networks
Each Network is bespoke; hand drafted to reflect the
particular technical complexities and interfaces of the
project. We have found that this is a far better, more
practical tool than that provided automatically by
commercially available packages. This is the tool used to
monitor performance and to see precisely what work is
coming up. The Network brings you the following benefits:

in the adjoining villa.

Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi
Andrew Reid have been appointed at the Commissioning
Managers for the Cleveland clinic Abu Dhabi. Having
originally been involved with the new build through
to fit-out Andrew Reid have now been appointed by
Mubadala to ensure the ‘smooth landing’ of the MEP
systems through occupation.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is the result of a partnership
agreement signed in 2006 between Mubadala
Development Company and Cleveland Clinic.
This 364 (expandable to 490) bed facility will be an
extension of the Cleveland Clinic model of care, offering
a range of tertiary/quaternary medical services. After
completion, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will be one of the
largest medical centres in the middle east.

Madinat Hotel
The phase 4 of the Jumierah Madinat Hotel expansion is a
100,000m2
development which when finished will provide
an additional 430 five star hotel rooms, a villa complex,
five swimming pools and a commercial district with retail
stores and restaurants.

Abu Dhabi Airport
This state of the art terminal will complement Abu Dhabi
airport. The Terminal is 700,000m2
with 28,000 of this
dedicated to retail and FB outlets.
This will all be set around a 8,000m2
indoor park (a first for
the region) with a Mediterranean theme in the centre and
a desert landscape towards the edges.
This terminal alone will be able to support 30 million
passenger per year and is expected to peak at 8,500
passengers per hour.

Healthpoint Hospital
Healthpoint, a Mubadala company, is a fully integrated,
multi-speciality hospital in Abu Dhabi.
Healthpont is currently the flagship hospital for all
sports injuries and boasts over 1,000m2

physiotherapy and rehabilitation facilities.
The Hospital is spread over 53,000m2
at present and has a
74 bed capacity with scope for expansion.

Mall of the Emirates
Mall of the Emirates is one of the worlds leading retail
malls. With over 300,000m2
it boasts over 700 retail units,
with some of the biggest names from Harvey Nichols to
Debenhams and Marks and Spencer.
It created the first indoor ski experience in the Middle East,
a 500 seat capacity Theatre and the Magic Planet – an
interactive activity zone for kids off all ages.
Expanded in 2015 to include additional retail offerings
and a 20 screen cinema multiplex including IMAX, 4DX
and Kids Auditoriums as well as Theatre by Rhodes, a fine
dining experience with reclining leather seating and a
menu created by Michelin star chef Gary Rhodes.
