Brown's interest in secrets and puzzles stems from their presence in his household as a child, where
codes and ciphers were the linchpin tying together the mathematics, music and languages in which
his parents worked. The young Brown spent hours working out anagrams and crossword

14. Robert Langdon

(a fictional field related to the study of historic symbols, which is not

Demons (2000), The Da Vinci Code (2003) and The Lost Symbol (2009).
Tom Hanks portrayed Robert Langdon in the 2006 film adaptation of The Da Vinci

18. Quotes about Dan Brown
•Dan Brown has to be one of the best, smartest, and most accomplished writers in the country. The Da Vinci
Code is many notches above the intelligent thriller; this is pure genius.
Nelson DeMille in a promotional blurb at Doubleday
•Critics have found in the narrative a veneer of erudition that cloaks nothing more than a James Bond-style
romp, albeit a highly addictive one. His publisher has described it as 'a thriller for people who don't like
thrillers'. One newspaper put it thus: 'It is terribly written, its characters are cardboard cutouts, the dialogue
is excruciating in places and, a bit like a computer manual, everything is overstated and repeated — but it is
impossible to put the bloody thing down.
David Smith in "Veni vidi da Vinci" in The Observer (12 December 2004)
19. Dan Brown is one of the best writers of the 21 century. In spite of
some critics, people like his books, because they are full of
adventures, mysteries, secrets which take us far from our daily
routine. Sometimes it’s very difficult to put his books down, because
they are very compelling. I hope that my project work has helped you
to find out something interesting about this writer. Even if you haven’t
read his books before, I hope that now you will be glad to start
reading them.
