MEANING & DEFINITION
• A course may be defined as a complete series
of studies leading to graduation or a degree.
• It could also mean any of the seperate units of
instruction in a subject made of lectures &
classes.
• When all the relevant subject matters are
organized under one course heading it refers to
planning course of instruction.
PRINCIPLES
• State the objectives in behavioural terms,
which has to be achieved.
• Establish sequence
• Organize the content focusing on the students
rather than subject matter.
• It should allow for individual differences &
according to the level of the students.
PRINCIPLES
• There should be a logic in organizing units &
also should allow for problem solving.
• Promote cumulative learning.
• Integration
• Avoid repetition
• The course should provide variety in modes of
learning.
CONTENT FOR A COURSE
PLAN
• State the objectives to be achieved or
outcomes to be attained through the given
course.
• Specify the levels of learners ( I, II ,III, IV Yr).
• Mention the placement of the course within
the curriculum.
• Eg:- A course in Nursing foundation is placed
in the I st yr of nursing curriculum.
CONTENT FOR A COURSE

• Organize the content in topic wise & unit wise.
• Describe the resource material & methods of
teaching in various set- ups.
• Describe the scheme of evelaution.
• Give reference for teachers & students.
• Include a seperate plan for practical learning.
LEVELS OF COURSE
PLANNING
• Courses are planned at:-

• Institutional level, &
• Instructional level.
PURPOSE
• Teacher plan the units of work & the lesson
for each course, linking it to previous learning
of the students as well as related to the needs
of students.
• Without planning there will be little unity &
cohesion in what is being learnt.

UNIT PLAN
DEFINITION
• Unit may be defined as a large subdivision of
the subject matter.
• Planning the unit is known as unit planning.

• Principle of learning by whole.
• Principle of simple to complex
• Principle of integration
• Principle of relatedness
• Principe of specification
• Principle of sequence

• A good unit includes the scope for variety of
learning experiences in relation to the subject
matter learned.
• A good unit places all the relevant topics
together.
• It help us to plan for time specification to
complete the unit, scheme of evaluation, etc.

DEFINITION
• A lesson plan is actually a plan of action.
• Lesson plan is the title given to a statement of
achievements to be realized & specific
meaning by which these are to be attained as a
result of the activities engaged during the
period.

matter & activities involved.

Course, unit & lesson plan

  • 2. MEANING & DEFINITION • A course may be defined as a complete series of studies leading to graduation or a degree. • It could also mean any of the seperate units of instruction in a subject made of lectures & classes. • When all the relevant subject matters are organized under one course heading it refers to planning course of instruction.
  • 3. PRINCIPLES • State the objectives in behavioural terms, which has to be achieved. • Establish sequence • Organize the content focusing on the students rather than subject matter. • It should allow for individual differences & according to the level of the students.
  • 4. PRINCIPLES • There should be a logic in organizing units & also should allow for problem solving. • Promote cumulative learning. • Integration • Avoid repetition • The course should provide variety in modes of learning.

CONTENT FOR A COURSE PLAN • State the objectives to be achieved or outcomes to be attained through the given course. • Specify the levels of learners ( I, II ,III, IV Yr). • Mention the placement of the course within the curriculum. • Eg:- A course in Nursing foundation is placed in the I st yr of nursing curriculum.

  • 8. PURPOSE • Teacher plan the units of work & the lesson for each course, linking it to previous learning of the students as well as related to the needs of students. • Without planning there will be little unity & cohesion in what is being learnt.
