System Designer
I have been working as an IT Systems Designer for over fifteen years with specialisations in
Management Systems and Virtualisation. During this time I have been exposed to an
enormous range of server, desktop and mobile systems.
In order to correctly tailor the solutions I provide, I work hard to ensure that I have an up-to-
date understanding of both the concepts and structure behind the product as well as a
detailed knowledge of best practice design and deployment methods.
The requirement to understand how the systems I design and implement work and interact
with other systems in a company’s ecosystem has given me a great breadth of knowledge in
a wide range of systems and products.
Prior to working as a System Designer, I spent many years working as a Hardware Engineer
and a Software Deployment Engineer.

Work Experience
VMWare Consultant - Crestone Wealth Management Apr 2016 - Nov 2016
Job Role: Provide an assessment of, and resolution to, the underperforming VMWare and Citrix thin
client solution delivered by the support provider. After the company was launched the role was
extended and expanded to assist with the migration of AD, Azure integration, backup management,
security testing and project management.
Crestone were working to very tight deadlines to launch their business. This was being hampered by
an unreliable Citrix solution that was crashing several times a day affecting the productivity of staff and
Implementation Engineers.
The initial request from Crestone was to provide a report on the VMWare solution in conjunction with a
colleague who provided a report on the Citrix solution.
The VMWare solution deployed by Crestone’s support vendor was a previous version of the product,
had been implemented in a very short period of time, was not secure and had not been well designed
or maintained. I proposed various solutions and the decision was taken, with the vendor, to hand over
the system to Crestone whilst it was replaced.
The replacement system had to be implemented and managed alongside the existing live environment
moving the configuration and virtual machines between the two environments as there was no spare
capacity or hardware to build new host systems.
During the implementation of the new system it was discovered that the networking behind the
VMWare system was also badly configured and labelled. Working in conjunction with the vendor, the
network configuration was corrected and documented.
A design was completed for the new multi-site VMWare implementation and a detailed plan was
created to ensure that all parties had full visibility of the changes being implemented. The new
VMWare environment was deployed, secured and made highly available providing the foundation for
the completed Citrix improvements to be realised.
After the successful launch of the company (with the company doubling in size and load on launch
day) I was asked to stay on and assist the IT Department and support vendors to develop a more
mature platform.
During this final phase of the role at Crestone the following tasks were completed:
 Implemented a change control process to ensure that the interaction between the support
vendor and Crestone was managed more efficiently.
 Assisted with the migration of AD to a new forest.
 Tested AV, Malware and security systems, at the request of the Security Manager, to ensure
that the products being managed by the support vendor were performing as required.
 Project management of a Dell Secureworks CTA implementation.
 Created a powershell script to ensure the o365 implementation was updated and
synchronised with both the on-premise AD and a list of users and positions provided by the
Human Resources Department.

SCCM and Windows 10 SOE Architect - Quantium Jan 2016 - Apr 2016
Job Role: Implement a SCCM 2012 system in an existing multi OS environment, design a Windows 10
SOE and deploy it to a Citrix PVS system with thin clients.
The SCCM system was required to be designed in a way that would fit into Quantium’s agile approach
to its business. This meant planning for rapid changes to the company structure and expansion into
new areas of both business and geographic locations. The system was also required to be highly
available as it was providing the operating system to the Thin Clients used by over 90 per cent of the
workforce.
Once the basic SCCM system was designed, implemented and running, a Windows 10 SOE was
required. The SOE was designed in a way that it could be delivered to virtual workstation instances
spun up by the Citrix PVS system and then have APP-V applications delivered to the virtual
workstation based on the user’s requirements and job role.
Quantium’s business relies a great deal on its customers trust that their data will be managed in a way
that will keep it both private and secure, therefore, a great deal of customisation and AD GPO work
was undertaken to manage how Windows 10 interacted with entities outside of the Quantium system.
After the Windows 10 SOE was completed, finessed and able to be delivered by SCCM to Citrix the
SCCM system was expanded to provide APP-V application deployment, windows software and OS
updates, software delivery to windows systems and basic configuration management.
The system was finally handed over to the local IT team and training given to enable the lead engineer
to be able to manage and support the system.
Active Directory Upgrade Lead - NSW Police Force Mar 2015 - Jan 2016
Job Role: Conduct initial groundwork to upgrade the NSW Police Force’s internal AD from 2003 to
2012.
The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) were part of the way through a large program of works to modernise
a number of their internal systems. After investigation by the various system owners it was discovered
that several of these systems would require an upgrade to the existing 2003 Active Directory.
The project was split into two initial phases; the first phase was to interview all the relevant teams and
system owners and understand the networks, software, services, non AD systems, inter dependencies
and hardware architecture.
As the upgrade would impact a number of highly sensitive services it was imperative that I was able to
set the teams and system owners expectations, understand their testing requirements, understand
their SLA’s, ensure that redundant systems and/or disaster recovery processes had been tested and
understand the impact of an AD upgrade failure on their systems.
The second phase was to build a lab to replicate the current base AD infrastructure and provide the
various connections that would be required for testing. Once the lab was complete a test plan was
created and completed by the various teams.
Testing was then prioritised and scheduled.
Extended break in the United Kingdom Dec 2014 - Mar 2015
SCCM Project Lead - Leighton Contractors Aug 2013 - Dec 2014
Job Role: Transition a newly acquired company into the Leighton ecosystem.
As the SCCM lead for this project I was responsible for an SCCM Engineer, a team of Deployment
Engineers and a team of Implementation Engineers. I was also responsible for the management and
implementation of transitioning all desktop and related software systems from the VisionStream
environment to the Leighton ecosystem.
The IT Department of the company being migrated into the Leighton system had been underfunded
and undermanned for 5-6 years. Therefore, the infrastructure, reliability and general usability of their
systems had suffered accordingly. As the transition was planned to take 18 months their current
systems and desktops had to be maintained and due to their unreliability, had to be supplemented,
worked around or run in parallel with the systems to be used during the transition. This led to having 4
SCCM (3 SCCM 2007 and 1 SCCM 2012) systems running in two AD forests managing, and
deploying, both Leighton desktops and the new company’s desktop and server fleet.
Tasks for this project included:

During this time I have been exposed to an enormous range of server, desktop and mobile systems. In order to correctly tailor the solutions I provide, I work hard to ensure that I have an up-to- date understanding of both the concepts and structure behind the product as well as a detailed knowledge of best practice design and deployment methods. The requirement to understand how the systems I design and implement work and interact with other systems in a company’s ecosystem has given me a great breadth of knowledge in a wide range of systems and products. Prior to working as a System Designer, I spent many years working as a Hardware Engineer and a Software Deployment Engineer.
  • 3. Page 3 of 9 Work Experience VMWare Consultant - Crestone Wealth Management Apr 2016 - Nov 2016 Job Role: Provide an assessment of, and resolution to, the underperforming VMWare and Citrix thin client solution delivered by the support provider. After the company was launched the role was extended and expanded to assist with the migration of AD, Azure integration, backup management, security testing and project management. Crestone were working to very tight deadlines to launch their business. This was being hampered by an unreliable Citrix solution that was crashing several times a day affecting the productivity of staff and Implementation Engineers. The initial request from Crestone was to provide a report on the VMWare solution in conjunction with a colleague who provided a report on the Citrix solution. The VMWare solution deployed by Crestone’s support vendor was a previous version of the product, had been implemented in a very short period of time, was not secure and had not been well designed or maintained. I proposed various solutions and the decision was taken, with the vendor, to hand over the system to Crestone whilst it was replaced. The replacement system had to be implemented and managed alongside the existing live environment moving the configuration and virtual machines between the two environments as there was no spare capacity or hardware to build new host systems. During the implementation of the new system it was discovered that the networking behind the VMWare system was also badly configured and labelled. Working in conjunction with the vendor, the network configuration was corrected and documented. A design was completed for the new multi-site VMWare implementation and a detailed plan was created to ensure that all parties had full visibility of the changes being implemented. The new VMWare environment was deployed, secured and made highly available providing the foundation for the completed Citrix improvements to be realised. After the successful launch of the company (with the company doubling in size and load on launch day) I was asked to stay on and assist the IT Department and support vendors to develop a more mature platform. During this final phase of the role at Crestone the following tasks were completed:  Implemented a change control process to ensure that the interaction between the support vendor and Crestone was managed more efficiently.  Assisted with the migration of AD to a new forest.  Tested AV, Malware and security systems, at the request of the Security Manager, to ensure that the products being managed by the support vendor were performing as required.  Project management of a Dell Secureworks CTA implementation.  Created a powershell script to ensure the o365 implementation was updated and synchronised with both the on-premise AD and a list of users and positions provided by the Human Resources Department.
  • 4. Page 4 of 9 SCCM and Windows 10 SOE Architect - Quantium Jan 2016 - Apr 2016 Job Role: Implement a SCCM 2012 system in an existing multi OS environment, design a Windows 10 SOE and deploy it to a Citrix PVS system with thin clients. The SCCM system was required to be designed in a way that would fit into Quantium’s agile approach to its business. This meant planning for rapid changes to the company structure and expansion into new areas of both business and geographic locations. The system was also required to be highly available as it was providing the operating system to the Thin Clients used by over 90 per cent of the workforce. Once the basic SCCM system was designed, implemented and running, a Windows 10 SOE was required. The SOE was designed in a way that it could be delivered to virtual workstation instances spun up by the Citrix PVS system and then have APP-V applications delivered to the virtual workstation based on the user’s requirements and job role. Quantium’s business relies a great deal on its customers trust that their data will be managed in a way that will keep it both private and secure, therefore, a great deal of customisation and AD GPO work was undertaken to manage how Windows 10 interacted with entities outside of the Quantium system. After the Windows 10 SOE was completed, finessed and able to be delivered by SCCM to Citrix the SCCM system was expanded to provide APP-V application deployment, windows software and OS updates, software delivery to windows systems and basic configuration management. The system was finally handed over to the local IT team and training given to enable the lead engineer to be able to manage and support the system. Active Directory Upgrade Lead - NSW Police Force Mar 2015 - Jan 2016 Job Role: Conduct initial groundwork to upgrade the NSW Police Force’s internal AD from 2003 to 2012. The NSW Police Force (NSWPF) were part of the way through a large program of works to modernise a number of their internal systems. After investigation by the various system owners it was discovered that several of these systems would require an upgrade to the existing 2003 Active Directory. The project was split into two initial phases; the first phase was to interview all the relevant teams and system owners and understand the networks, software, services, non AD systems, inter dependencies and hardware architecture. As the upgrade would impact a number of highly sensitive services it was imperative that I was able to set the teams and system owners expectations, understand their testing requirements, understand their SLA’s, ensure that redundant systems and/or disaster recovery processes had been tested and understand the impact of an AD upgrade failure on their systems. The second phase was to build a lab to replicate the current base AD infrastructure and provide the various connections that would be required for testing. Once the lab was complete a test plan was created and completed by the various teams. Testing was then prioritised and scheduled. Extended break in the United Kingdom Dec 2014 - Mar 2015 SCCM Project Lead - Leighton Contractors Aug 2013 - Dec 2014 Job Role: Transition a newly acquired company into the Leighton ecosystem. As the SCCM lead for this project I was responsible for an SCCM Engineer, a team of Deployment Engineers and a team of Implementation Engineers. I was also responsible for the management and implementation of transitioning all desktop and related software systems from the VisionStream environment to the Leighton ecosystem. The IT Department of the company being migrated into the Leighton system had been underfunded and undermanned for 5-6 years. Therefore, the infrastructure, reliability and general usability of their systems had suffered accordingly. As the transition was planned to take 18 months their current systems and desktops had to be maintained and due to their unreliability, had to be supplemented, worked around or run in parallel with the systems to be used during the transition. This led to having 4 SCCM (3 SCCM 2007 and 1 SCCM 2012) systems running in two AD forests managing, and deploying, both Leighton desktops and the new company’s desktop and server fleet.
