This document discusses the importance of securing permissions for various elements used in a media production to avoid legal issues like copyright infringement. It outlines the specific permissions needed for logos, locations, actors, audio, and soundtracks. Templates are provided for location and contributor release forms to help secure these permissions and protect against any potential consequences of not obtaining the proper consents.

2. It is important to get permission for things that are used in my media production as many of them could be copyright, and if I don’t get permission then
the owner does not know I am using it, which could result in me getting into trouble.
I will need to secure permissions for the following:
• BBC Three logo permission copyright
• Product logo permission copyright Product placement logo
• Location permissions
• Actors
• Audio
• Sound track
If I do not secure these permissions I could face a number of different consequences including being sued, arrested, told off etc.

It is important that we get permission to film in
these locations as we could get in trouble with
the owners and possibly get accused
trespassing/sued.
As a group we will have to consider that we might not get
permission to film in some of our locations such as outside as the
council might not get back to us. It is very likely that we will get
permission for the houses as they belong to the members in our
group.
BBC Three logo – Copyright It is important that we get permission to use
the BBC Three logo as we are using it as the
channel we are going to broadcast it on.
As a group we will have to consider that we might not get
permission in order to use the logo. If this doesn’t happen we
might have to change the channel that we can broadcast it on as
it is important that we show what channel it is going to be aired
on.
Sound effect – Throwing up,
footsteps, gun shot, sirens,
alarm
It is important that we get permissions to use
certain sound effects in order to make our
trailer sound more realistic.
As a group if we will have to consider that we might not get
permission to use certain sound effects. We would overcome this
by getting our sound effects from a different source or by
creating our own.
Actors – Mel, Abbie, Lexi, Jamie,
Leah, Leah’s friend
It is important that we get permissions from
the actors involved in our production in order
to give their consent for filming.
As a group we will have to consider that all the actors might not
give their consent to film them. If this was to happen we would
then would have to consider by changing our actors.
Soundtrack It is important that we get permission to use
the sound track to use in our trailer in order to
make it more entertaining for the consumer. It
would also make our trailer look more realistic.
As a group we will have to consider that we might not get
permission to use the sound track that we want therefore we
would have change to a different soundtrack.

4. These are templates for our contributor release forms. There are two different forms as the
under 16s require a guardian to sign permission for them to be featured in the film. These
forms will help us to notify our actors of what we are planning to film and what they are
signing up for. This will help to ensure us that they want to be included.

5. It is also important to secure permissions for any sound effects that we may include in our
production to avoid a breach of copyright. We can secure permissions by reading the small
print underneath the YouTube video that the owner has written to see if they have
mentioned any copyright instructions, and if they don’t we can leave a comment
underneath the video. We can also email any big production companies for any music that
they have produced to see if they allow permission to use it. It helps to show that we are
respecting their rights and how enthusiastic we are to include it in our video.

6. This is an example of one of
the songs we are planning to
include in our trailer. As you
can see, there is a link to a
free download, which
enables us to use the track
on our production.

7. As a group we have also secured permission to film in our
chosen locations. As we are filming in two of the group
members houses we made a permission form that our
parents could sign to show that they give us permission to
film there. We are also planning to film in a public
location, so we had to email the council to see if they
were happy with us filming there. We phoned them and
then sent them an email that they asked for, with details
of what we are planning to portray in our trailer and
where we would like to film. They replied saying that they
are happy for us to film in these chosen locations, and
gave us some instructions of what to do with our footage
to ensure that nobody took it out of context.

8. We also thought that it would be appropriate to email the producer of the E4 logo to see if
we could get permission to feature it in our trailer. We sent them an email regarding the
copyright and explained that we would like to use it in our A2 Media production.
