Dos and Don’ts for your Interview

   -   Don’t talk over the interviewer or interrupt him. Be respectful. He is looking at
       your behavior in the interview and assuming that is how you will represent him
       and the company in front of a customer!
   -   Don’t trash-talk your previous employers or anyone that you worked with in the
       past. This shows that you take business situations personally and that is not an
       ideal attribute for a new hire.
   -   Don’t be late... EVER!
   -   Don’t eat right before the interview (especially onions or garlic!) but do have a
       snack so that your stomach isn’t growling 
   -   Don’t be a ‘chatterbox’. Again, they will assume the way you present yourself to
       them is the way you would present to a customer. You do not want the manager
       worrying that you will talk yourself out of a sale.
   -   Don’t ask about compensation right off the bat. You should show them that you
       are interested in the company and the position first, money second. We all know
       money is important but it is a turn-off if their first impression is that you are only
       interested in how much you can get out of them.
   -   Don’t bring any cell phones or PDA’s in the interview, even if you put them on
       vibrate. Leave them in the car so there are no interruptions from you.
   -   Don’t check the time. This one is self-explanatory 
   -   Do be confident! They want to know you are going to go out there and give it
       your all and if you don’t have confidence, you won’t be able to sell yourself to the
       customer.
   -   Do build a rapport. Find a common ground so that the manager feels comfortable,
       while maintaining your professionalism. You never want to be stiff or lack-luster
       in an interview.
   -   Do have good hygiene. Be clean and don’t overdo the perfume/cologne  Check
       yourself before going inside. Do a breath check but NEVER chew gum in the
       interview. Make sure there is no animal hair on your clothes and your hair is in
       place. Basically all the things you would normally do if you wanted to look good
       for and impress someone.
   -   Do bring more than one current copy of your resume. Make sure it is spelled
       correctly and formatted properly. One page is preferred but make sure it is no
       more than two pages long. An interviewer won’t read all of a five page resume!
   -   Do maintain eye contact and smile.
   -   Do not be afraid to ask for the job. If you feel that the interview went well and
       you want the position, tell the manager! It will only make you look better as a
       salesman.
   -   Do get a business card and send a ‘Thank you’ email or phone call after you
       leave. Follow-up is very important and if you don’t do this, they may assume that
       you are not excited about the opportunity.
   -   Do ask a lot of questions about the company and the position. This will show
       them that you are interested. *It is ok ask about money, just don’t lead off with it*
-   Do your homework. Find out what you can about the employer. If you don’t know
    anything about them, that will very likely hurt your chances for an offer of
    employment
