Imaginations Bloom at MNS Spring Break Camp
Museum of Nature & Science offers fun, learning March 14-18
DALLAS, Texas (March 2, 2011) – While North Texas children are out of
school for spring break, they can jump into an exciting week filled with fun and learning.
The Museum of Nature & Science is presenting Discovery Camp each day from March
14 – 18. This year’s themes include dinosaurs, wizards and mummies.
Discovery Camp sessions are organized by grade level – kindergarten through
sixth grade – in order to customize activities to the abilities of each age group. Campers
will get to explore a new topic every day, make crafts and participate in fun, thematic
activities.
“Each day, campers will have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of
scientific concepts – presented in themes that spark children’s curiosity,” says Teresa
Lenling, assistant director of education for the Museum of Nature & Science. “From
pirates to magic to paleontology, through hands-on experiences, they can discover the
science behind buoyancy, chemistry, dinosaurs, flight, and much more!”
The students are organized into two groups by their school grades: K-4 and 5-6.
Themes for the kindergarten-through-fourth-grade group include The ABC’s of Wizardry,
Crass Critters, Mysterious Mummies and Camp Castaway. They’ll experiment with the
“magic” of science, get a close look at animals and insects, explore the world of ancient
Egypt and dive into the depths of the oceans.
Fifth and sixth graders will enjoy Paleo Primer, Academy of Wizardry, What’s
Your ‘-ology?,’ Survivor Science and Junkyard Science as their Discovery Camp themes.
Students in this age group will get the real dirt on fossils, investigate the truth behind
“magic,” get hands-on experience with careers in science and practice outdoor survival
skills. They’ll even learn how commonly discarded items can be used for energy,
machinery or even music!
Pricing for Spring Break Discovery Camp at the Museum of Nature & Science is
$185 per student for members, $210 for non-members. Before and after care are
available but must be purchased for the entire week. Before care is $25 a week per
