6. Motivation
• The offshore oil and gas exploration and production is one of the industries that has
changed drastically in terms of technological developments and operation styles in the
past decade, esp. due to very harsh operating condition (weather, environment).
• It requires a continuous process improvement which will only be possible through
appropriate new technologies that are exploiting new opportunities for the
optimization.
• One of such sources is the data, since these systems are generating GBs of (useful)
data daily and this proposal is about an experiment how MIDIH industry data
analytics platform can be exploited for supporting innovations in this industry
segment.
7. Challenge: Data-driven Monitoring of the drilling process
• Drilling process is a complex activity:
• Long-run (continuous, without stops)
• Extreme weather conditions
• Lots of parameters influencing the process
• Need for an efficient monitoring and control:
• Automated reporting of KPIs
• Alarming in the case of anomalies / problems / faults

KPI-1: Completeness and soundness of the created process model (ProcessTwin)
Validation:
Done through the D2LabRig Portal. The model was learned on one dataset (Volve) and was tested on another
one (Bohr). The accuracy in the automated recognition of drilling phases was 100%
KPI-2: Efficiency of the model creation process
Validation
Done based on the performance tests for D2Twin. The creation of models took at maximum 10% of the
processing costs.
KPI-3: Accuracy of the created operational reports
Validation
Done through D2LabRig Portal. Several time periods were checked by the domain expert. Automated testing is
planned as well.
