3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
The music video and using photoshop for something like the beginning projects and
The Poacher.
The music video because it was fun to film and come up with different shots and
ideas either in planning or while filming. It was also good because I so happened
to have someone who was willing to help me with filming, making things much easier
and doable, without someone to help, this would have been much worse.
The photoshop tasks because they where easier to acquire assets and more time is
spent editing it to make it look good, again, if I didn’t have someone helping me,
The Poacher movie poster would have had to have been very different and would have
not helped me.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
Having to have someone to help with creating things is very hard, some people don’t
want to help or don’t understand what you want something to look like or be done in
a certain way. I tried to do as much as I could independently but luckily I have
someone willing to help with some of my projects.
It has also been tough learning how to use lots of different software, things like
photoshop, adobe audition and premier pro are very hard to learn and then master
but I managed to start understanding them and enjoying them more once I did.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
I think I have made a lot of development in my research and planning, I have
started looking at lots of different sources to get ideas and compare my work to
others, I have also written out what I plan for my products to look like and
sometimes including pictures or prototypes so I can give others and myself an idea
of what its going to look like.
Doing more and detailed research is very useful allowing me to get more information
or learn something about what I'm working on which helps with the final product.
6. Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
I think that I am strongest in editing and creating shots, I believe this can be
seen in my music video, The Poacher movie poster and magazine cover, the movie
poster definitely says “hero, action film” and you can tell its quite gory and
gritty, there are lots of creative shots in my music video such as the one where I
stomp the floor and when the foot lands on the floor, the background changes.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
Either the music video or The Poacher movie poster.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses but I think they are both quite well made,
the music video is fast paced to match the music, there are lots of different types
of camera angles being used and it feels very energetic, again fitting the tempo of
the song.
The Poacher movie poster gives of the correct impressions to what kind of a film it
is, the light hitting the knuckle of the “hero” shows they are heroic and they are
the good compared to everything around it being a darker colour to signify that is
the evil, most of the items/ other assets used (that are not real) look quite
convincing so the poster still looks realistic and doesn’t break the illusion.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
Probably the ghost audio project, it wasn’t as fun because it was hard to get
things across to the person listening and I wasn’t very good at using the software,
audition so I disliked editing it as well.
I also didn’t like using my voice for the person talking, I could have asked
someone else to be the person talking but I'm sure that no one else was willing to
help so I had to do the vocals, and if someone else where to have done it for me,
It might have taken a lot longer because I would have to tell the person how I want
it to sound, what I wanted them to do and for them to then get it right.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
I managed to do all the work that was asked of me, and hand it in on time (mostly).
I didn’t use timetables most of the time which was not very helpful for myself as
it could guide me through what I needed to do and when I needed to do it, however I
do prefer doing things at my own pace and coming back to things/ switching between
them.
Instead of having a timetable for exact times to work on things, I could create
something that says what work needs to be completed and when it needs to be handed
in so I know how long I have and can focus more on something that should take
priority.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
I would prefer to be taking photos and then editing them on photoshop to create
things that look realistic (for example if there is something added in from another
picture) but more importantly, look good.
So for example I could take a picture of the sky and want to add something into the
sky, I would want to make it look like the picture that was taken had the other
asset in it when it was taken.
I could also make magazine covers or pages, posters, album covers, thumbnails,
things like that. Again, they don’t all have to look realistic but more importantly
they need to look appealing to the target audience but I would like making them
look realistic, although it can be tough sometimes.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
I don’t want to go to university, I think I would probably want to carry on with
this course next year and develop a few specific skills (these skills probably
being photoshop, photography and maybe premier pro), hopefully I can get a good
grade and then try and find a job or way of making money with the skills I have
developed while at college.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
I need to find out what jobs/ how I could make money off getting good with
photoshop and photography, I don’t want to go to university and would rather find a
job once I have been at college. Assuming I get a good grade with this course, I
would research for jobs that want good photoshop and photography skills or just
ways of making money from having these skills.
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
