Presentation by a 4th ESO student. The aim of the task was finding out about the paiting Lady of Shalott, its author and other pieces of work by him.

2. CHARACTERISTICS
• This painting illustrates
the following lines from
part IV of Tennyson’s
‘The Lady of Shalott’
(page 4).
• This picture is full of
mistery as all the poems
of Tennyson.

3. CHARACTERISTICS
• Tennyson’s poem, first
published in 1832, tells of
a woman who suffers
under a curse, that killed
her at the end. She lives in
a tower on an island called
Shalott, on a river which
flows down from King
Arthur’s castle at Camelot.

4. FOLLOWING LINES
And down the river’s dim expanse
Like some bold seer in a trance,
Seeing all his own mischance –
With glassy countenance
Did she look to Camelot.
And at the closing of the day
She loosed the chain, and down she lay;
The broad stream bore her far away,
The Lady of Shalott.

5. AUTHOR (1809 – 1892)
• As I already said, the
author of this poem
was Alfred Tennyson.
• He is one of the most
important playwright in
the United Kington.
• He also created the
dramatic monologue.

6. OTHER POEMS
• Ulysses, published in
1842, a poem about the
return of Ulysses to
Ithaca, his empire.
• The Eagle, published in
1851,a short poem full of
alliterations,
personifications and
hyperboles.
