1. Personal Statement:
We are the media, igniting change, promoting liberation and inspiring others. Every
individual can influence the media, as a creator or a consumer. The future of media
starts with us. Every piece of advertisement shown is a reflection of how society has
adapted and developed to the consumers social needs as well as your own. This is
one major factor which has drawn me towards media and is exactly why I want to
further my knowledge. The determination and infatuation I have shown has been
deeply expressed through the skills I have obtained with work experience, my skills
developed from college/work and my voluntary work. I have worked since the age of
14, which I feel has enhanced my determination and has allowed me to gain valuable
industry experience within retail and media.
I have had the pleasure of working within the media industry for 3 months. The title I
held here was Media Marketing Agent. This work consisted of contacting clients,
creating campaigns and working closely with SEO work. From this work experience, I
have developed the knowledge of how to create a post and push its discovery levels
through google search. This has given me a basis of how the industry works which
has driven my hunger to develop my knowledge further through study and being
practical. This is why I chose to study an extended media course with college.
College has taught me that I am a practical, innovative and a creative person. I have
learnt how to use software such as Photoshop, InDesign and Premier. This has
allowed me to create video games, short films/audio and print/graphics based work.
A specific example of when I have applied my skills has been in my final major
project with college. For this I created a DVD cover and a theatrical poster. This
allowed me to practice with photography, expanding my independent study on
photoshop and expand my research on individual pieces of advertising. This basis
has made it easier to create other forms of media and has increased my analytical
skills. This has allowed me to have a better understanding of why different
conventions are included in different advertisement pieces.
My current status of employment is a Sales Adviser for Estee Lauder. This has allowed
my confidence, independence and team work skills to grow. I have had the
opportunity to understand the company goals and values by meeting the marketing
team, retail team and the inspirational speakers of Water Aid. With my time
employed, me and my team have carried out events to raise money for Water Aid.
We have carried out braiding events and tombolas. This has allowed us to raise over
£600 for this incredible cause. From doing this, it has allowed me to become a
charitable person, to open my eyes to the world out there and to explore all the
possibilities that are available for us. This has developed me to want to inspire others
and make a change.
2. My aspiration is to work for Channel 4. This is because its a diverse channel which
tackles stigmas associated around the media. The position I would like to explore in
this sector would be a Digital Media Producer. This is because you can explore
different media platforms, and assess whether a campaign is effective. This job would
open up many opportunities, especially with the technical side. For example
exploring Java, HTML and Flash.
I am applying for this course because my passion, determination and skills are all
reflected in media. My passion for this course will help me express my creativity and
expand my knowledge on different topics which will allow me to specialise in my
