1. Music Video Analysis
Comment on the following aspects in relation to your music video choice. Linkin Park- In the end
How will these techniques appeal to the target audience needs?
Target Audience &
needs There is no violence, drugs or anything which is offensive to some viewers included in the video so I think it would be suitable to all
ages, to be specific I think it would be suitable 8 years or older because it’s a strange video so some younger viewers would find it
hard to understand when watching the video. Music wise its very rock so the audience would be more aimed for people who enjoy
rock music than other types of music, I myself first viewed this music video when I was younger and it didn’t impact on me as being
offensive or violent.
Lyrics
The lyrics to the music doesn’t really relate to the music video. The title is the main lyric to the music video (In the end), the lyrics
to the chorus “ I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter” this obviously means they are trying hard for
something but it ends up being a fail so it doesn’t even matter anymore. They talk a lot of love for a girl in the song so maybe the
lyrics make up to a man being with a woman and he tries so hard to make it work but in the end she doesn’t accept it so all the
effort doesn’t even matter.
Tempo
It starts of with a piano tune for around 10 seconds until it gets to the first lyric of one of the vocalist then it drops into a loud fast
tune whilst the other vocalist raps the verse, this stays the same until the verse has finished that’s when all the instruments kick in
and the tempo get loader and faster with the chorus being sung in time to the music.
Genre
The genre for this music mainly comes under rock for example Linkin is the main headliners for a festival called
Download this year which is a heavy rock festival. Although in this song the vocalist raps the verses whilst heavy
rock is sung during the chorus’s. Also Linkin Park are played in a lot of rock radio shows e.g. XFM which comes
under the rock style of music, but some people think of most of their songs as being more rap styled music.
2. Music Video Analysis
Camera Technique
The camera techniques they use during the video are verified throughout the video, I noticed a lot of close up shots of the vocalists
and band players, distance landscape shoots of surroundings to show the place the video was set in, they also do a lot off pan
shots off when the vocalists are singing. The video is a performance type music video which is where they are filming a live
performance of the band but they have used a lot of editing and digital effects other than a real life performance.
Editing
The whole video consists of a lot of editing they use a lot of digital effects so they would have to edit the band in the right positions
to get the effects perfected, also they edited the scenes clips together from different angles to show you the surroundings of the
band, this works well because it gives you a clear perspective of the band from all different angles.
Use of digital effects
The whole edit would be completely different without the digital effects; the whole video is full of strange and un life like animals
which have been specially edited into the video. They make plants grow fast and cover the screen to cut to the next scene which
looks better than an ordinary transition. The digital effects don’t make sense during the video because it has no relation to the
lyrics or style of song which makes it confusing when watching.
