I. EXERCISES
GOAL: Learn the lyrics to a song to help develop your students’ awareness,
knowledge, and comprehension of the hieroglyphic languages of Amarigna
and Tigrigna.

OBJECTIVE 1: KNOWLEDGE
After watching the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video, listening to the lyrics and
reading the captions, your students will be able to identify the lyrics in their copy of the
Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook.
Method Level 1:
Instruct your students rewrite the English and Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics sung in the
Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video in Latin characters. Make sure the words are
in the same order that they are sung.
This will help your students become familiar with many Amarigna and Tigrigna
words.
Instruct your students to rewrite the lyrics below, using additional paper if necessary.

OBJECTIVE 2: COMPREHENSION
After watching the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video, listening to the lyrics and
reading the Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics in Latin characters, your students will be able to
identify the lyrics written in Amarigna/Tigrigna fidel in their copy of the Amarigna &
Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook.
Method Level 1:
Instruct your students to rewrite the Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics below in English and
below each English word the Amarigna and/or Tigrigna match in Latin characters.
They should follow the format your students will see in their copy of Amarigna &
Tigrigna Qal Rosetta Stone.
Also, instruct your students to show the similar Amarigna or Tigrigna counterparts.
They can utilize AmharicDeictionary.com and Memhr.com to search and find the
similarly spelled words in each language.
This will help your students become familiar with many Amarigna and Tigrigna
words, but also with their slight differences.
Instruct them to rewrite the lyrics below, utilizing additional paper if necessary.

OBJECTIVE 3: APPLICATION
Following a discussion of Amarigna and Tigrigna fidel writing characters, your students will
be able to demonstrate their understanding of the conduct of writing pronunciation sounds
with fidel characters.
Method Level 1:
Utilizing the video lyrics in the Amarigna & Tigrigna Student Songbook, instruct your
students to write out the lyrics to the song in Amarigna/Tigrigna fidel writing
characters.
Instruct your students to search online for both an Amarigna fidel chart and Tigrigna
fidel chart, because there are some differences, and make a note of the differences
between the pronunciations in each chart.
Instruct your students to rewrite the lyrics in fidel characters below, also show any
similar fidel spelling between Amarigna and Tigrigna words in the lyrics.

OBJECTIVE 4: ANALYSIS
After discussion of hieroglyphic writing characters, your students will be able to distinguish
the particular characters utilized to write Amarigna and Tigrigna words in hieroglyphs that
appear in the lyrics of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video.
Method Level 1:
Instruct your students to select a hieroglyphic Amarigna/Tigrigna word from the lyrics
in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook, rewriting the word
below.
Instruct your students to describe the different possible reasons for using particular
hieroglyphic characters to write out their selected hieroglyphic word.

After discussion of Amarigna and Tigrigna prefixes and suffixes, your students will be able
to distinguish the particular hieroglyphic characters utilized to write Amarigna and Tigrigna
prefixes and suffixes. This includes those utilized in words of the lyrics of the Amarigna &
Tigrigna Qal Music Video.
Method Level 2:
Wallis Budge’s, “An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary,” is a collection of words
identified by Egyptologists as of the dictionary’s publication in the year 1920.
Instruct y your students to select a word from the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music
Video lyrics listed in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook,
writing the word below.
Instruct your students to analyze the various possible prefixes and suffixes for their
selected word, utilizing AmharicDictionary.com and Memhr.org to help them find
various forms of their selected Amarigna/Tigrigna word. Also, instruct them to write
the various forms below, following the format shown in their copy of Amarigna &
Tigrigna Qal Hieroglyphs for Beginners for each word.
Instruct your students to find the hieroglyph written version of their selected word in
Wallis Budge’s, “An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary,” rewriting the word in
hieroglyphs.
Next, instruct them to find as many versions of the selected word as possible in the
Budge’s dictionary, with the various possible prefixes and suffixes.

OBJECTIVE 5: SYNTHESIS
Following the Analysis: Method 1 in the previous exercise, instruct your students to change
a sentence of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video using an alternative form of their
selected word.
Method Level 1:
After analyzing the various forms of their selected Amarigna/Tigrigna word from the
Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video listed in the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal
Student Songbook, instruct your students to choose a different form of the word using
alternative Amarigna and Tigrigna prefixes.
Instruct your students to rewrite the sentence below with the alternative
Amarigna/Tigrigna word in both Latin and fidel characters, in Amarigna/Tigrigna and
English.

Instruct your students to find the literal words of the lyrics to the “Witness
Ancient Gebts” song and music video in hieroglyphs, as follows:
A. Locate each of the hieroglyphic words below in “An Egyptian Hieroglyphic
Dictionary” by Wallis Budge
B. Write the page number under each hieroglyphic word where they find the
hieroglyph
C Although your students may have already located a word in prior verses, they
might learn something interesting or useful by searching for the repeat of a word
all over again
D. Most words cannot be searched by the meaning alone, since Egyptologists are

Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Book Series Student Songbook 2 OBJECTIVE 1: KNOWLEDGE After watching the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video, listening to the lyrics and reading the captions, your students will be able to identify the lyrics in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook. Method Level 1: Instruct your students rewrite the English and Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics sung in the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video in Latin characters. Make sure the words are in the same order that they are sung. This will help your students become familiar with many Amarigna and Tigrigna words. Instruct your students to rewrite the lyrics below, using additional paper if necessary.

Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Book Series Student Songbook 3 OBJECTIVE 2: COMPREHENSION After watching the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video, listening to the lyrics and reading the Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics in Latin characters, your students will be able to identify the lyrics written in Amarigna/Tigrigna fidel in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook. Method Level 1: Instruct your students to rewrite the Amarigna/Tigrigna lyrics below in English and below each English word the Amarigna and/or Tigrigna match in Latin characters. They should follow the format your students will see in their copy of Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Rosetta Stone. Also, instruct your students to show the similar Amarigna or Tigrigna counterparts. They can utilize AmharicDeictionary.com and Memhr.com to search and find the similarly spelled words in each language. This will help your students become familiar with many Amarigna and Tigrigna words, but also with their slight differences. Instruct them to rewrite the lyrics below, utilizing additional paper if necessary.

Method Level 1: Utilizing the video lyrics in the Amarigna & Tigrigna Student Songbook, instruct your students to write out the lyrics to the song in Amarigna/Tigrigna fidel writing characters. Instruct your students to search online for both an Amarigna fidel chart and Tigrigna fidel chart, because there are some differences, and make a note of the differences between the pronunciations in each chart. Instruct your students to rewrite the lyrics in fidel characters below, also show any similar fidel spelling between Amarigna and Tigrigna words in the lyrics.

Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Book Series Student Songbook 5 OBJECTIVE 4: ANALYSIS After discussion of hieroglyphic writing characters, your students will be able to distinguish the particular characters utilized to write Amarigna and Tigrigna words in hieroglyphs that appear in the lyrics of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video. Method Level 1: Instruct your students to select a hieroglyphic Amarigna/Tigrigna word from the lyrics in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook, rewriting the word below. Instruct your students to describe the different possible reasons for using particular hieroglyphic characters to write out their selected hieroglyphic word.

Method Level 2: Wallis Budge’s, “An Egyptian Hieroglyphic Dictionary,” is a collection of words identified by Egyptologists as of the dictionary’s publication in the year 1920. Instruct y your students to select a word from the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Music Video lyrics listed in their copy of the Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Student Songbook, writing the word below. Instruct your students to analyze the various possible prefixes and suffixes for their selected word, utilizing AmharicDictionary.com and Memhr.org to help them find various forms of their selected Amarigna/Tigrigna word. Also, instruct them to write the various forms below, following the format shown in their copy of Amarigna & Tigrigna Qal Hieroglyphs for Beginners for each word. Next, instruct them to find as many versions of the selected word as possible in the Budge’s dictionary, with the various possible prefixes and suffixes.
