Basic Skills Assistant Coordinator
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise twenty-five part-time instructors and placement test
administrators in the Basic Skills Program.
Evaluate transcripts, issue transfer credits, and award diplomas.
Prepare graduate reports, order diplomas, and issue official transcripts.
Process grades, withdraws, incompletes, drop/add forms, enrollment verifications, court ordered
documentation, contact hours, FTE reports, student registrations, instructional contracts, payroll, class
rosters, and state files in accordance with the North Carolina Community College Systems policies and
procedures.
Perform on-going needs analysis of all processes and procedures, reforming as necessary.
Provide program information to potential students, local businesses, and community agencies.
Evaluate, select, and order materials to be used in the classroom.
Perform class visits, respond to audit concerns/exceptions, and provide follow-up documentation.
Handle the discipline process for students who violate rules and expectations or the college code of
conduct.
Participate in long range planning and assessment of programs to include continual evaluation of all
program materials, goals, and statistical data.
Establish and maintain new instructional sites within the community and business and industry.
Represent the college at professional conferences and workshops.
Prepare relevant documentation required for compliance with college, state, and federal regulations.
Coordinate appropriate training and staff development for current instructors.
Design materials to market the ESL Program throughout the community.
Advise and register Adult High School students on an individual basis.
Coordinate the Gaston College International Festival, an annual event open to members of the
community.
Coordinate Basic Skills Student Success, a mandatory four-day class for new students in the Adult Basic
Education, GED, and Adult High School programs.
Highlights
Served as Interim Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act Youth Works Coordinator from July –
September 2015.
Served as the Interim Adult High School Coordinator for two years (2010 – 2012).
Developed a standard course of study for all fourteen core courses in the Adult High School Program in
accordance with the standards outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Developed course descriptions for all thirty-eight Adult High School classes.
Received a $1000 mini-grant for the purchase of a Physical Science video series and redesigned the course
outline in order to use the series to substitute for the lack of materials and lab equipment.
Designed and implemented a teacher evaluation tool used to conduct classroom observations.
Administered and proctored the North Carolina Competency Test.
Co-authored the English Language/Civics Education Grant exceeding $16,000 in 2010.
