24. This contemporary garment
will make a fashion statement
for anyone who is wearing it.
This one-piece garment was
greatly influenced by the
Northern Renaissance
costume. It contains a low
scalloped neckline that is
rounded at the bust and
squared around the pit of the
arm and shoulder. Pleats are
gathered in a “V” shape at the
hip to emphasize the
waistline. The method of
highlighting the hip could
resemble “bum rolls” that
women wore under their
petticoats to really enlarge the
silhouette of the waist. The
body suit also displays
sections of ruffles on the close
fitting sleeves.
25. Between the late 1600’s and
early 1700’s an innovative
approach of creating women’s
dresses began. The bodice and
skirt were cut in one
piece, instead of separately.
This form of construction of
garments was called manteau
and was inspired by Middle
Eastern robes.
This original design was
inspired by the popular
seventeenth century fashions.
The dress is a one piece with
puff-sleeves at the shoulders
and elbows. A belt can be a nice
accessory added to manipulate
the fit of the garment . It
includes an attached bowtie like
scarf at the collar that can
represent the historic cravat;
although the cravat was
commonly worn by men during
these times. A modern pair of
jackboots; also most commonly
worn by men, adds a unique
touch to complete the look.
“Ancient Egyptian”
This unique dress was
inspired by the ancient
Egyptian sheath dress. The
accepted style was a
fitted, full or knee length
dress usually embellished
with intricate, decorative
beading and sometimes
feathers.
