  1. 1. ASSIGNMENT ON:
  2. 2. Problem 1: Conscientization
  3. 3. Problem 2: Principle of Meaningful Relationship
  4. 4. Q1) What do you mean by ‘Conscientization’? Analyse the role of social worker towards conscientizing the social agency (respondents and centre). Substantiate your answer with examples.
  5. 5. Answer:
  6. 6. Conscientization is a social concept, that focuses on achieving an in-depth understanding of the world, allowing for the perception and exposure of perceived social and political contradictions.
  7. 7. Conscientization conveys the idea of developing, strengthening, and changing consciousness.
  8. 8. Conscientization = Consequence + Sensitize (consequence of not being aware)
  9. 9. The objective of social work is to conscientize the community.
  10. 10. enabler we help the respondents to understand the consequence of juvenile delinquency. We accept the individual as he is and then try to sensitize him of the consequences and explain the social functioning with real life relatable examples.
  11. 11. Example: My neighbourhood has some under privileged families and one of them works as a help for my house and her younger teenage son was caught by her mom stealing and consuming drugs along with other children of the community.
  12. 12. him, by communicating with him, asking about his day-to-day life, the fun he has. Shared a few stories from my childhood as well, which made him laugh and thus forming a bond. I use to often call him and have a small chat with him, thus becoming his confidant. I noticed that he had started respecting me.
  13. 13. mainly consume whitner along with other drugs. I explained him the consequences of consuming the drug. I also showed him a viral video of a drug addict and explained him how that person’s brain had stopped functioning at its full capacity due to the drug consumption. I reminded him of his responsibilities towards his mom and his family. I also explained him how stealing was unethical and if he went to jail how it would ruin his life for good as he would have a criminal record.
  14. 14. influence of drugs and then I finally suggested his mom to admit him into a rehabilitation center. I helped her with the required contact details. Now after coming out of the rehab center the boy has completed his matriculation exams and pursuing his diploma.
  15. 15. The above example denotes the efforts of me trying to Conscientize the teenager.
  16. 16. Q2) Differentiate between Social and Professional Relationships. How you are applying the
  17. 17. principle of ‘meaningful relationship’ at your field work? Evaluate your answer with proper
  18. 18. justifications.
  19. 19. Answer:
  20. 20. Relationship is the medium through which the client is enabled to state his problem and then the problem can be focused enabling the client to solve his/her problems.
  21. 21. to the client’s need. Length can be short or long. For example: a doctor-patient relationship is sometimes small and that at a rehabilitation center is longer. The length of the social relationship is not dependent on needs, it might last a lifetime.
  22. 22. Professional relationship purpose is to meet the needs of the client and social relationship is based on self-interest or pleasure.
  23. 23. Professional relation is limited to the help required, for example. at out centers or doctor’s clinic. Social Relationship can occur anywhere.
  24. 24. Professional relationship is supposed to have boundaries, the social worker is responsible to maintain professional boundaries. In Social Relationship both are equally responsible to maintain boundaries.
  25. 25. In Professional Relationship, often a fee payment is involved and in social relationship no fee payment is required.
  26. 26. In Professional relationship, one is always required to be empathetic while in social relationship one might or might not be empathetic.
  27. 27. way they are, because it is very important for me to accept them in order to build a relationship. I am trying to slowly build a relationship with the client using the principle of meaningful relationship, however principle of meaningful relationship cannot be put into effect with out the principle of individualization. Working as an enabler along with Principle of meaningful relation, I am using the principle of self- determination, so that I can explain them the resources that are available to them so that their problems can be solved.
  28. 28. she was more comfortable and looking at me directly and talking, her squint-eyed conditions has been resolved to a great extent. This led to my curiosity, that how come this defect in her eyes was so quickly rectified and when after researching and consulting my ophthalmologist friends, I got to know that squint-eyes cannot be treated without wearing corrective lens or surgery and improvement in Vanya’s squint-eyed condition was more of psychological. As she became more comfortable around me, she was relaxed and thus less quint eyed. This led me to the realization that I had finally started building a
  29. 29. know that he had lost his eye sight in the recent past. We started interacting in the session more and I cleared his few doubts related to English subject, thus building trust and eventually a professional relationship. In the last session I observed that his body language was changed, he was not defensive anymore and he was interacting and participating more in the activities, this gave me sense of satisfaction seeing that Viktor had come out of his zone and was comfortable around us.
  30. 30. These were a few examples of the meaningful relation that I have built with the clients at the center. Hoping that in the coming future I will be able understand their problem using social case work and enable them to solve their problems.
