Q. 3.
The history of Z traces back to late 1980s when Col Needham posted
on Usenet, “Those Eyes”, about actresses with beautiful eyes. Others
with similar interests soon responded with additions or different lists of
their own. By late 1990, the lists included almost 10,000 movies and
television series correlated with actors and actresses appearing
therein. On October 17, 1990, Needham developed and posted a
collection of Unix shell scripts which could be used to search the lists,
and thus the database that would be incorporated in UK in 1996 as Z
was born. In 1998, it became a subsidiary of Amazon.com, who were
then able to use it as an advertising resource for selling DVDs and
videotapes.

Shown here (image on next slide) is Mr. Alisher Usmanov, a steel and
telecom tycoon. Worth $15.8 billion, he is a major shareholder in
Arsenal football club and was named Britain's wealthiest man in the
Sunday Times rich list for 2013.
In December 2014, he bought a certain something (X) at an auction,
which actually belonged to Y for £3 million. X had been with Y since
1962, and as a gesture of respect for Y, and describing Y’s condition
as “unacceptable”, Usmanov decided to return X to Y after the auction.
Y, now 86 years old, said that he would donate part of the proceeds to
charities and to support scientific research.
If you know one, you know the other. Identify X and Y.
ANSWER:
James Watson (Y) put his Nobel Prize for Biology gold medal (X) up
for auction, which was awarded to him along with Francis Crick and
Maurice Wilkins in 1962 for proposing the double-helix structure and
function of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
Q. 5.
One version of the story about the inception of X goes like this.
The idea for X was conceived at the Major's Cabin Grill restaurant in New York
City in 1949, when co-founder Frank McNamara was dining with clients and
realized he had left his wallet in another suit. His wife paid the tab, and
McNamara thought of a multi purpose charge card as a way to avoid similar
embarrassments in the future. He discussed the idea with the restaurant owner
at the table, and the following day with his lawyer Ralph Schneider and friend
Alfred Bloomingdale.
McNamara returned to the same restaurant the following February and paid for
his meal using a cardboard charge card and a signature, and the concept of a
credit card was born.
X was founded in 1950 first independent credit card company in the world and
established the concept of a self-sufficient company producing credit cards for
travel and entertainment.
Identify X.
ANSWER:
Q. 6.
Having its origin in the city of Bangalore, X has a restaurant located on
the Lal Bagh Road in Bangalore and Gandhinagar area as well and
also for the pre-packed food articles which are sold in packets having
the X brand.
Founded in 1924 as a restaurant, the business currently comprises 2
separate entities - X Restaurant and X Foods. X Foods was sold to
Orkla, a Norwegian company in 2007 for $80 million. It is said that once
a Chief Minister of Karnataka stood in a queue to have masala dosa at
X restaurant.
X claims to be the inventor of the popular South-Indian breakfast item,
Rava Idli. According to X, during World War II, when rice, which is the
staple item used in idli was in short supply, they experimented in
making idli using semolina and created Rava Idli.
Identify X.
ANSWER:
Mavalli Tiffin Room or MTR
Q. 7.
After the event X occurred in 2013, law enforcement agencies started
the search for the perpetrators.
Independently, thousands of users of reddit took it upon themselves to
sift through the evidence and try to find the suspects.
Things quickly got out of hand when real life journalists and
newspapers started taking the crowdsourced investigation seriously
and printed pictures of those the Internet thought were suspects.
One of the standout “accused” was Brown University student Sunil
Tripathi who had been missing for a month prior to X. This led to
massive witch hunt of Tripathi’s family by anonymous people on social
media. Tripathi was later found to have committed suicide and had no
connection to X whatsoever.
Give me X.
ANSWER:
Boston Marathon bombings
Q. 8.
The X project was started in 1994, and has been the subject of heavy
criticism in the recent years. Despite this, statistics reveal that X still
rules the _____ market, with more than 50% of the world using X.
Experts believe that although X is not the best, it is definitely not the
worst, especially with the newer versions showing great improvements.
Some also say that since X was not developed by Y, rather Y used the
source code of Spyglass Inc.’s Project Mosaic to develop X (for which
Y was sued in 1996), it is possible that Y did not do enough for X.
On March 17, 2015, Y announced that it is officially going to replace X
by Z as the default _____ on its products, and therefore “killing” the X
brand.
Give me X, Y and Z.
ANSWER:
X : Internet Explorer
Y : Microsoft
Z : Project Spartan

This Bundesliga team (X) and this IPL team (Y) have collaborated in 2014,
thanks to a German corporation. The now Bundesliga club was playing in
the amateur leagues in Germany when Dietmar Hopp, one of the co-
founders of the corporation, invested in the club in 2000. The same year,
the club was promoted to the German fourth division. The club continued
its rapid rise through the echelons of German football in the 2000s, getting
promoted to the Bundesliga in 2008, where the club has stayed ever since.
The corporation got involved with an IPL team ahead of the 2014 auctions.
The corporation believed that getting involved in the auctions was a good
way to showcase its big data platform. Why the IPL auctions would need
“big data” expertise was lost on analysts, though, since the total number of
balls bowled in international and top-level T20 competitions is of the order
of 3 million!

  • 3. Q. 1. What has been blanked out?
  • 5.
  • 6. Q. 2. Tardar Sauce, popularly known as X, is a ___ and an Internet celebrity. Gaining popularity because of an image posted on Reddit in September 2012, X has been featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and the cover of the New York magazine. “The Official X” page on Facebook has over 7.5 million likes, and the official company “X Limited” has an estimated value of $1 million. In the recent few years, X has gained immense popularity and has appeared on multiple shows including American Idol, CBS Evening News, WWE Monday Night Raw, etc, and appears for photo sessions only once a week. Two books titled “X: A ____ Book” and “The ____ Guide to Life: Observations by X” have also been published and they debuted as #7 and #3 on the New York Times Best Seller List. Give me X.
  • 9. Q. 3. The history of Z traces back to late 1980s when Col Needham posted on Usenet, “Those Eyes”, about actresses with beautiful eyes. Others with similar interests soon responded with additions or different lists of their own. By late 1990, the lists included almost 10,000 movies and television series correlated with actors and actresses appearing therein. On October 17, 1990, Needham developed and posted a collection of Unix shell scripts which could be used to search the lists, and thus the database that would be incorporated in UK in 1996 as Z was born. In 1998, it became a subsidiary of Amazon.com, who were then able to use it as an advertising resource for selling DVDs and videotapes. What is Z?

  • 12. Q. 4. Shown here (image on next slide) is Mr. Alisher Usmanov, a steel and telecom tycoon. Worth $15.8 billion, he is a major shareholder in Arsenal football club and was named Britain's wealthiest man in the Sunday Times rich list for 2013. In December 2014, he bought a certain something (X) at an auction, which actually belonged to Y for £3 million. X had been with Y since 1962, and as a gesture of respect for Y, and describing Y’s condition as “unacceptable”, Usmanov decided to return X to Y after the auction. Y, now 86 years old, said that he would donate part of the proceeds to charities and to support scientific research. If you know one, you know the other. Identify X and Y.
  • 13.
  • 15. James Watson (Y) put his Nobel Prize for Biology gold medal (X) up for auction, which was awarded to him along with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins in 1962 for proposing the double-helix structure and function of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
  • 16. Q. 5. One version of the story about the inception of X goes like this. The idea for X was conceived at the Major's Cabin Grill restaurant in New York City in 1949, when co-founder Frank McNamara was dining with clients and realized he had left his wallet in another suit. His wife paid the tab, and McNamara thought of a multi purpose charge card as a way to avoid similar embarrassments in the future. He discussed the idea with the restaurant owner at the table, and the following day with his lawyer Ralph Schneider and friend Alfred Bloomingdale. McNamara returned to the same restaurant the following February and paid for his meal using a cardboard charge card and a signature, and the concept of a credit card was born. X was founded in 1950 first independent credit card company in the world and established the concept of a self-sufficient company producing credit cards for travel and entertainment. Identify X.
  • 18.
  • 19. Q. 6. Having its origin in the city of Bangalore, X has a restaurant located on the Lal Bagh Road in Bangalore and Gandhinagar area as well and also for the pre-packed food articles which are sold in packets having the X brand. Founded in 1924 as a restaurant, the business currently comprises 2 separate entities - X Restaurant and X Foods. X Foods was sold to Orkla, a Norwegian company in 2007 for $80 million. It is said that once a Chief Minister of Karnataka stood in a queue to have masala dosa at X restaurant. X claims to be the inventor of the popular South-Indian breakfast item, Rava Idli. According to X, during World War II, when rice, which is the staple item used in idli was in short supply, they experimented in making idli using semolina and created Rava Idli. Identify X.
  • 22. Q. 7. After the event X occurred in 2013, law enforcement agencies started the search for the perpetrators. Independently, thousands of users of reddit took it upon themselves to sift through the evidence and try to find the suspects. Things quickly got out of hand when real life journalists and newspapers started taking the crowdsourced investigation seriously and printed pictures of those the Internet thought were suspects. One of the standout “accused” was Brown University student Sunil Tripathi who had been missing for a month prior to X. This led to massive witch hunt of Tripathi’s family by anonymous people on social media. Tripathi was later found to have committed suicide and had no connection to X whatsoever. Give me X.
  • 25. Q. 8. The X project was started in 1994, and has been the subject of heavy criticism in the recent years. Despite this, statistics reveal that X still rules the _____ market, with more than 50% of the world using X.
