For the protection of employers and employees, we provide some services, such as education, compensation to injured workers, and no-fault insurance (WorkSafeBC, 2022). It is an honour for us to provide services to 255,000 employers and 2.3 million workers in British Columbia (WorkSafeBC, 2022). Competency After analyzing the job description of the people and culture partner of WorkSafeBC, the following competencies will be evaluated:  Teamwork  Communication skills  Analytical thinking  Resilience  Planning and organizing  Time management  Values and ethics (HALIFAX, 2022).
  5. 5. 5 Behavioural Question #1 Question When you have a disagreement with your colleagues, how do you handle it? Describe a time when you convinced someone that your point of view was the best. Probe 1: What was the situation? Probe 2: What was the outcome? Competency Resilience: possess the ability to remain calm in the situation and positively accept constructive feedback. Scoring Guide Weighted Score 1 Poor Answer 3 Average Answer 5 Good Answer  Become overwhelmed in a difficult situation  Negative attitude  Unable to cope with the situation with a healthy mechanism  Risk-taker  Good influencer  Good at coping with a situation in a professional way  Use leadership strategy in a difficult or negative situation and remain calm  Creates an environment that supports the enhancement of skills to overcome the challenges faced by the employees Interviewee Answer At my previous job, I was working as a recruiter when I disagreed with my colleague. One candidate was perfect for the role in their company, but she was not having a college degree. My colleague was looking for more qualifications instead of experience, however, the candidate had a lot of experience in many companies. During my lunchtime, I talked with my manager about this case and the skills of the candidate. After 10 minutes of talking somehow, I convinced my manager that the candidate holds all the experience (our company is seeking out) although the candidate’s resume was weak. Interview Notes Instead of arguing with the colleague, Hannah takes this point to the manager and her suggestion made the manager look at the situation that benefits the company by hiring a candidate based on skills not on qualifications. 6. 6. 6 Behavioural Question #2 Question Is there any strategy that you used for completing tasks under tight deadlines? Probe 1: If you were put in the same situation again, what would you do differently? Probe 2: What was the result? Competency Analytical Thinking: collect and evaluate information and comes up with effective solutions. Scoring Guide Weighted Score 1 Poor Answer 3 Average Answer 5 Good Answer  Giving an irrelevant statement  Being unserious about the work of a company  Wasting time and illogical thinking  Trying to understand the situation before acting or coming to a conclusion  Having some knowledge but is not perfect  Assumes different perspectives and then evaluates their possibilities  Identify the root cause, pattern and trend to cope with the situation and then develop solutions accordingly Interviewee Answer I never try to commit to a deadline and usually use a calendar, time management, and planning to meet my deadline. I encounter this situation at my last job during COVID-19. One of the team members was not able to complete her task because of sickness. So, my manager gave me this project as she believes I can do this. This project was very important for our company. Instead of getting nervous or tense, I took the help of my supervisor and seniors, they gave me some tips and instructions. With my time management skills, I was able to finish the project before the time. Eventually, I also got a reward for this. Interview Notes Good point is that she was quite confident while answering but she didn’t give any clarification to the probe question that what she will do differently if put in the same situation again. Total Score 3
  7. 7. 7 Situational Question #1 Question Suppose there is a conflict between two coworkers. How would you handle this situation? Probe 1: Can you give an example? Probe 2: What was the result? Competency Conflict management, decision-making, or change management Scoring Guide Weighted Score 1 Poor Answer 3 Average Answer 5 Good Answer  Avoid the situation  Lack of leadership  Non-systematic approach  Using a traditional approach and doesn’t adapt new methods or changes  Giving some new ideas  Address the situation  Settle their conflict by asking employees to have a face-to- face conversation  Use a conflict management tool  Facilitate face-to-face conversation between workers and give them directions to solve it Interviewee Answer In this situation, I will use a conflict management strategy. Rather than ignoring the situation, I will calm both parties and then listen to both. After that, I will find the root cause of the conflict and find the best solution or use a win-win approach for the conflict- management. Interview Notes She gives an example of her previous job where she resolves a conflict between two coworkers. Her answer was to the point since she will use a win-win conflict resolution where both parties will be satisfied with the solution. Total Score 5
  8. 8. 8 Situational Question #2 Question Suppose you find that your departmental manager is biased in the selection process and is selecting employees based on a particular gender. Probe 1: What strategy will you adopt? Probe 2: What would be the outcome? Competency Values and ethics: which support the values and principles of an organization Scoring Guide Weighted Score 1 Poor Answer 3 Average Answer 5 Good Answer  Ignore the situation without any action  Do not inform the manager  Let the manager continue the biased selection  Communicate with a manager about this issue  Take some action against the departmental manager as he or she is disobeying the company’s policies and regulations.  Bring this issue to the manager and make sure that strict action is taken against him or her.  Train other interviewers not to repeat the mistake in the future Interviewee Answer I will approach the departmental manager and ask him not to do it by reminding the rules and regulations of the company. If still, he is biased while selecting then I will take this issue to the HR manager to look into this matter to take the best action. Interview Notes Her answer and strategy were good because instead of ignoring this issue she will directly approach the departmental manager. But in my perspective, she should directly take this issue to the upper authority as this is not an ignorable issue. She is giving another chance to the Departmental manager to continue his mistakes. 9. 9. 9 Experienced Based Question Question What is the most valuable thing that you learned from your previous job? How will you implement that skill here? Probe 1: Do you think it will be helpful for our company? Probe 2: I would like to hear more Competency A continuous process of improvement, and strategic thinking: promote and ensure alignment with the organization’s vision and values Scoring Guide Weighted Score 1 Poor Answer 3 Average Answer 5 Good Answer  Learned nothing  Fail to tell how this skill will help in this company  Share their overall experience  Explain how they learned this skill  Give valid points on how their learning would be beneficial to our organization  Clearly explain why this learning should be implemented over others Interviewee Answer The significant skills that I gained from my previous job are teamwork and being flexible. Teamwork is a key to success and is advantageous for every organization. Many times I encounter situations where working together as a team makes everything easy and achievable. Interview Notes She provides one example of how teamwork helped her in her previous job, however, she did not answer how she will use this learning in this organization and how it would be helpful for our organization.
