Becoming an affiliate marketer overnight involves only one simple step:
Taking action.

Follow these five simple steps, and you won't find yourself like the majority
of your peers, endlessly "preparing" or "learning". -- you can start earning
right away.

Step #1 Assess Your Needs, Resources and Goals

You'll set up an affiliate marketing plan that's much more in tune with your
dreams if you first make a plan. And that includes assessing your needs,
resources and goals...

Do you want to become a "super affiliate", making all of your
money from passive income? Or do you already have a business
passion and see affiliate marketing as a way to maximize income
from your main skill?
Do you need to earn money as a sole family income... or is this
going to be "pocket money" on the side, good for treats or perhaps
a way to save up toward your family's next vacation?
Do you already have a niche in mind, or is your approach more
"anything goes"?
Are you comfortable with multi-tasking, or do you work better
focusing on just one method?
Do you have funds available for business start-up? If so, how
much?
Do you enjoy being a "personality" or are you more comfortable
being "behind-the-scenes"?

Step #2: Making a Plan

With this basic self-assessment under your belt, it's now time to make a plan
-- and a schedule.

Pacing yourself is vital to success, so making a schedule and committing
yourself to sticking to it can help you get over inertia or confusion much
more quickly than leaving it to the inspiration of the day (or the distraction
on your screen). Telling yourself "today I have to research and decide on a
web host and find and register my domain" helps you stay on target much
better than getting distracted by the latest Special Offer to cross your inbox.

Below, you'll find a brief reminder about skills you may need or actions you
need to take. Use this chart to determine whether you want to do it
yourself, outsource it... or leave some things for future outsourcing. Note
that many of these sections will be for well down the road. For now,
print out and highlight only those areas that apply immediately to your set
up.

(It makes solid business sense to keep your initial set up simple, adding
outsourcing after the income starts coming in... unless, of course, "doing it
yourself" is going to cost you money in time lost or mistakes made.)

Using a highlighter to block out each section in the chart above is a handy
trick for keeping yourself focused and on target (especially if you're a visual
learner).



TIP: Try coloring steps you plan to immediately take in one color and steps for later down
the road in another color.

Step #3: Getting Started and Taking Action

Next you need to find viable products to promote. If you already have a
niche you're passionate about, now is the time to do your research.
Absolutely, you can do keyword research; using free tools like Google's auto
suggest function in its Search Engine.

You can also use the free version of Traffic Travis program (and even
Google's External Keytool to cross-check results) -- but you can also
shortcut this process by checking larger affiliate networks such as
Amazon.com or Pepperjam; or even ClickBank.

Not only will checking large networks turn up likely products, it will also give
you a strong indication about what's currently "hot" -- and what's not. Your
results will also show you multiple angles of a topic to blog about.
(Magazines -- online and at your local grocery story, newsagent's or book
superstore -- will also shortcut you on hot, trending niches and topics.)

Once you've got topics and products, it's time to:

Write articles for directories
Find directories ("[your topic + directory + article" in search box:



E.g. "pregnancy directory article"
Register your domain and set up your blog
Upload and at least six posts (pre-schedule some, if you've written
more than six)
Submit as many articles as you can to at least three major, relevant
directories

You'll want to find directories specific to your niche, but also make sure you
submit to at least one mainstream general directory such as Infobarrel.

"QUICK START" TIP: If you want or need to get started right away without investing any
cash at all, by-pass the blog route for now and submit articles containing your affiliate links in
your Resource Box (or the body of the article, if allowed) to free directories only.

Remember to check the guidelines for each directory and be extremely careful not to violate
any -- especially with sites such as Squidoo.com.

This will make you pennies in the long run, compared to owning your own blog -- but it will
get your links out there straight away.

Finally, if you have set up a blog, make sure you sign up for your $1 Aweber
-- and start building your list straight away. Be sure to include a contact
form in one of your blog theme sidebar widgets, inviting people either to
sign up for a free report, if you have one ready, or simply to be notified next
time you post. (Aweber has pre-designed contact forms you can customize
and easily insert into your blog.)

Ideally, you should plan to start making money and building your list as
quickly as possible during your Aweber $1 trial -- so that when it's time to
pay your first monthly $19.95, your first affiliate marketing profits have
already paid for that!

Finally, once your site is up and running (and looking pretty darn good)
apply to join a few of the bigger affiliate networks such as Pepperjam,
Commission Junction or Shareasale.



Step #4: Promote Your Affiliate Links

You've found products to promote, paying attention to:

Commission rate
Type of cookie (one time, lifetime, tiered)
Gravity (in ClickBank)
Eligibility (yours)
Payment methods and details
The merchant's reputation and track record
Whether or not the merchant has an effective, professional sales letter
and site
Whether or not the merchant has resources for you to use (graphics,
banners, code, PLR content, FAQ, instructions)

You've made good use of these resources (while naturally making your site
and content as unique as possible, giving the product your own "voice").
Now it's time to promote your products.

You've already made a good start with your article submissions -- but
remember to incorporate as many methods right now as you naturally and
easily can. This could include any or all of:

Offline promotion (press releases to local papers; your URL on t-shirts,
caps, business cards, stationery, handouts, mouse pads, etc; giving
talks to local organizations; donating to local causes and
organizations)
Facebook or ezine advertising
Social networking
Guest blogging or interviewing guests/granting guest interviews on
your niche topic
YouTube videos
Email marketing to your list (mini-courses, offers, really priceless
information, "how to" tips, etc.)

Always be creative and passionate about promoting your products. You will
absolutely get to the really passive, "set and forget" stage -- but not without
investing your energy and time at the beginning. Remember, the more you
put into set up, the quicker you'll see rewards.

Step #5: Tracking and Fine Tuning

Once you've got the ball rolling, resist the temptation to check your PayPal
account every five minutes. (Murphy's other law states that income only
comes in when you're not looking for it!) But do keep an eye on what's
working for you and what's not.

If a product is not converting well, try tweaking a headline, changing a
graphic, changing your copy. If that doesn't work -- replace that product
with a better one!

Stay involved with your blog, even if that's just to keep a regular eye on it
and update your plugins. If you've allowed comments (and there are two
camps on whether or not you should allow comments, in today's affiliate
marketing climate) be sure to check them, so see what is generating
activity... and what's not.

Install Google Analytics. (There are WordPress plugins you can explore too,
to help you track.) Pay attention to your affiliate payouts, ensuring
everything is moving smoothly and information is correct.

Finally, don't expect to become a millionaire overnight. Sometimes it
requires a few tweaks to get your mix right, but don't give up too easily!
There's no such thing as a free ride -- even though you will eventually be
making real money "on autopilot". Making an income requires time,
commitment and work -- but I hope this guide will help you work smarter
and quicker; not harder!

No matter what your motivation, needs, goals or skill level -- you can only
benefit from stepping into the pool straight away. Congratulations on your
