The Madison International Trade Association is launching its 2016-2017 program year with an event on September 13th about US trade policy in an election year. The event will take place in Madison, WI and will feature two expert speakers who will discuss the legal perspectives of potential trade policy changes and the impacts of trade on both the US economy and Wisconsin's economy. The early bird registration deadline is September 6th and registration can be completed on the organization's website. Throughout the year, the association will host several other events on topics related to international trade such as Brexit, China trade updates, an annual economic forecast, and sustainability challenges within trade.

Madison International Trade Association launches the 2016-2017 Program
year with a September 13th Event on
US Trade Policy in an Election Year
Madison, WI – The Madison International Trade Association launches its program year
with an event on Sept. 13th
on “US Trade Policy in an Election Year”. This program
takes place at the M3 Insurance Building at 828 John Nolen Drive. Registration starts at
11:30 a.m. and presentations begin at 12:30 p.m. and includes lunch.
The 2016-2017 program year will continue after September with trending topics in trade.
In October, MITA focuses on Brexit and the impacts it has on international trade, and it
will follow with trade updates from China in November.
In 2017, MITA will host their Annual Economic Forecast in January and an event exploring
global climate changes and sustainability challenges within trade in April.
Trade continues to be a hot-button issue in this election year. MITA’s September event
will feature two expert speakers that help sort facts from hyperbole and discuss possible
consequences for US exporters.
Andy Schutz is an attorney at Grunfeld Desiderio Lebowitz Silverman & Klestadt LLP in
Washington, D.C. He will address the legal perspective like what if we imposed 45
percent tariffs or what if we left NAFTA.
Our second speaker, Kurt Bauer, is President and CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers and
Commerce. Bauer will show what trade means to the US economy as a whole and to
Wisconsin in particular.
Early Bird Registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 6th
and can be made at
www.mitatrade.org. The “early bird” registration fee is $35 for members and $50 for
non-members. The regular rate of $45 for Members and $60 for Non-Members applies
after that.
