INDUSTRIAL
Hygiene
Exposure Monitoring
Toxic chemicals and harmful emissions from the manufacturing
process are just a few of the hazards that can endanger
unprotected employees in today’s workforce. Identifying
these potential hazards through air monitoring and other
environmental sampling techniques is a key step to ultimately
determining the severity of potential exposures and
implementing effective employee protection strategies. EI’s
staff of Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH) and Certified
Safety Professionals (CSP) use NIOSH/OSHA approved
sampling methodologies to help you identify these risks and
develop appropriate engineering and personal protection plans.
EI’s staff conducts employee exposure monitoring and
chemical hygiene surveys for comparison with established
occupational exposure limits (ie. OSHA Permissible Exposure
Limits (PELs) and ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) and
is dedicated to providing our clients with professional services
in accordance with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene
(ABIH) Canons of Ethical Conduct.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
Many issues can affect building air quality – volatile organic
compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, particulate matter, mold
and moisture intrusion, even poor ventilation. EI provides
comprehensive Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) services, from initial
building screening, to air testing, problem building resolution,
and litigation support. Our scientists have advised NIOSH, US
EPA , CDC and other federal agencies on indoor air quality and
have conducted thousands of problem building investigations.
Asbestos Management
EI provides comprehensive, turn-key asbestos consulting
services. Through a multi-phase approach of inspection,
in-place management and abatement oversight, EI provides
clients with practical and cost-effective solutions for the
management of asbestos hazards. EI has performed hundreds
of asbestos building surveys at commercial, industrial and
residential facilities. We assist clients in determining the
most practical approach to manage asbestos-containing
building materials. EI’s asbestos management services include
training according to EPA MAP, Operations and Maintenance
(O&M) plan development, management plan development
and implementation, response action determination and air
monitoring and analysis (PAT ID# 09023).
Lead-Based Paint Management
EI has extensive experience in conducting lead-based
paint (LBP) inspections, risk assessment, design and
monitoring. Depending on client needs, EI utilizes either
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology or atomic absorption
spectroscopy for the analysis of lead in paint during inspections.
Some of our specific client services include inspection, risk
assessment, waste disposal determination, interim controls and
abatement design and lead clearance sampling.
Mold Assessment and Remediation
Mold and biological contamination have become high profile
issues throughout the country. On almost a weekly basis, local
and national news media are depicting businesses disrupted
and residents ill or displaced from their homes because of
mold contamination. This issue continues to find its way into
courtrooms, as property owners, insurers, lenders and attorneys
are all drawn into the equation. EI provides a wide array of
microbial assessment and remediation services to help proactive
building owners and managers resolve these issues.
Noise Monitoring
EI industrial hygiene professionals have over twenty years of
experience with the identification, evaluation and control of
industrial and community noise sources. EI professionals are
available to conduct personal noise dosimetry and sound level
surveys to determine if employee exposures to noise exceed
the OSHA exposure limits that require the enrollment in a
Hearing Conservation Program (HCP), use of hearing protection
devices (HPDs) and/or the implementation of engineering and
administrative controls to minimize employee exposure to noise
in the workplace.
Radon Testing
Radon surveys have become an important aspect in real estate
sales and purchases. In many states, radon disclosure is required
before a real estate transaction can be completed. EI maintains a
staff of professionals certified by the EPA’s Radon Measurement
Proficiency (RMP) Program. In addition, EI is listed with the
EPA for secondary measurement services and has been issued
RMP number 2214600.

clients develop, improve and maintain a safety program that meets
current OSHA standards and fosters employee compliance. EI’s safety
professionals are multi-disciplinary and experienced in all safety program areas.
Environmental, Health and Safety Solutions.™
SAFETY
& Compliance
Program Development
EI can evaluate your existing programs, policies and procedures and provide a written report of findings and
recommendations. When needed, EI professionals can assist in the development of new written programs, which are
customized to your facility and operations. Each safety program will assist you in the identification, evaluation and
control of hazards. Whether general industry or construction, completed programs will meet the OSHA requirements
for written programs as well as convey management’s commitment to worker safety.
Compliance Assistance
An EI safety professional can help employers improve OSHA compliance in many ways. EI can conduct detailed
inspections of your facility, an exhaustive review of injury and illness recordkeeping (OSHA Form 300), provide
expert and interesting OSHA-required training, identify permit confined spaces, gap analyses, conduct incident
investigations or conduct focused inspections such as walking and working surfaces or machine guarding.
Mock OSHA Inspections
EI Safety Professionals regularly conduct comprehensive mock OSHA inspections for clients in the public and
private sectors. A typical mock OSHA inspection begins with a brief opening conference with management to plan
the audit. This is followed by a review of written OSHA-required programs and an evaluation of the OSHA Form
300 and supporting documentation. A detailed wall-to-wall inspection is then conducted, during which a number
of employees and supervisors will be interviewed. Finally, the audit is completed with a closing conference which
may include senior management and employee representatives. A detailed report will then be generated by the EI
safety expert, which will identify each finding and include the appropriate OSHA or consensus standard violated, for
easy reference. Depending on the level of detail desired by the client, audits may also include a review of employee
training records, investigation records and inspection records. EI can also respond to your specific areas of concern
including employee behavior, confined space identification, trenching/excavation, fall protection, personal protective
equipment assessments, electrical safety issues, fire safety and emergency action plans, hazard communication,
hearing conservation, respiratory protection and more.
Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Services
If your company is interested in achieving VPP status or simply in need of a VPP recertification audit, EI can help.
EI can assist you in every step of the VPP application process or we can conduct a detailed, confidential audit to let
you know what improvements need to be made in your system before submitting your VPP application to OSHA. EI
employs experienced and certified professionals who can conduct a confidential audit for your facility or construction
site to identify system inadequacies which would disqualify you from achieving VPP success. A detailed report will
then offer suggestions on what corrective action to take. EI professionals will also be available afterwards to provide
follow-up assistance.
