Victim Advocate- Family Advocacy Program, Army Community Services, Fort Rucker
I have worked for the Family Advocacy Program located at Fort Rucker for the past 8
months. In my position as a victim advocate I have carried a substantial case load, as well as
developed, executed, evaluated, and modified training programs and briefs. This has provided
information and guidance regarding program procedures and policies to our senior leaders, DA
Civilians, and soldiers on the installation. As an advocate my main duty is to do an intake, and
do a risk assessment for each client, while providing information and referrals, prevention, and
education. It is my job to establish the nature of their concerns while making sure they receive
the correct referrals to government and civilian agencies. Although this is not a traditional
counseling role, much of what I do consists of solution focused based theology.
A large part of my job consists of assisting clients to prepare a plan for their future.

Victim Advocate- Family Advocacy Program, Army Community Services, USAG Ansbach
As an advocate it is my duty to provide support, information, prevention, education, and
referrals to adult victims of intimate partner domestic violence. I am responsible for making sure
that victims know their rights, as well as giving them a comprehensive intake, including a safety
assessment, and making sure that they are educated on the services offered to them here on
our instillation. With many of my clients being new to Germany it has also been my job to
educate them on their resources while stationed here and the different rules, regulations and
agencies that exist on the installation.
I am also available to accompany victims to medical, legal, and command related
appointments. As part of my job I rotate the on call hotline phone with our part time victim
advocate. The Family Advocacy Program also provides behavioral skill training to couples,
family members and groups. I am available 24/7 for crisis intervention, which may include
finding a shelter for a victim and his/her family, being present with a client at the MP station to
make a report, or contacting command on behalf of the victim. I also do a weekly in processing
brief to each new soldier who comes to our installation, as well as giving trainings to different
Military Units and Family Readiness Groups.
Additionally I attend the Case Review Committee monthly as an advocate for my current
clients. This job also consists of filing, and data input into VADASATS and CTS. It is my
responsibility to keep files up to date and secured at all times. Having been the only victim
advocate for FAP at my instillation for the majority of my employment I was also in charge of
creating, and execute different preventative and educational events for the Domestic Violence

reported of child abuse, suicidal, as well as homicidal ideation.

While stationed in Germany I worked at Social Work Services, for two years. I worked
most closely with the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) treatment side. This program offers
comprehensive advocacy services to victims dealing with any form of domestic violence; spouse
abuse, cases of child neglect, spouse neglect, spousal rape and family sexual assault, as well
as child abuse incidents. As the FAP tech I was required to manually run our monthly Case
Review Committee (CRC) as well as keep track of the cases being presented for domestic
violence, case management, case write ups for each domestic violence case, input into the
FASOR data base, and disbursing the CRC determinations to the correct command and alleged
soldiers.
In addition to my FAP requirements I also did all of the filing, booking, checking in of
clients, phone reception, and maintaining risk reduction data on a daily bases for all of
Katterbach’s Social Work providers. This job allowed me to observe the day to day working of a
Licensed Social Worker, as well as interactions with domestic violence victims and offenders. I
have become familiar with the rules and regulations pertaining to domestic violence within
families in the United States ARMY, as well as having had experience with different cases and
designating the proper treatment plans for domestic violence victims and offenders. In addition I
have become familiarized with the different services on post, as well as the people who run
them (i.e., New Parent Support Program, Chapel Services, Victim Advocacy, and Behavioral

Marriage and Family Therapy Intern- Ansbach Military Family Life Center
As an intern counselor at the Katterbach Chapel I worked alongside the Marriage and
Family Life Chaplain, Douglas Downs (MFT). I counseled couples, individuals and families,
averaging about 8 hours a week of face to face client contact. My approved AAMFT Supervisor,
Chaplain Demien, also oversaw my development of individualized treatment plans.
While working with the Chaplain I have not only gained experience working with clients
and co-counseling, but I have also been able to participate in the marriage retreats and pre-
deployment marriage seminars put on by the Garrison. At the chapel we saw a slew of concerns
from clients; ranging from communication issues within their marriage, infidelity, PTSD, suicidal
ideation, divorce, reintegration issues, to providing counseling to domestic violence victims and
offenders.
During my internship I became familiar with different forms of therapeutic theologies,
ranging from solution focused counseling to behavioral modification. I also gained experience
with other models as well.

While working at CODA I worked mainly on the emergency hotline; where women who
were victims of domestic violence could call in for support, resources, and guidance. I helped

current state. I also worked with their children while the mothers were in group sessions.
Although I only volunteered there briefly (50 hours) before moving to Germany, I truly enjoyed

I work both with individuals, as well as couples and families. On average I carry 6-10 clients/families, at a time. The hours I work at the center currently are going towards my licensure hours for my LMFT, and our under supervision of an LMFT. As part of my job as a therapist I do an intake for each client, assess their needs, and provide treatment. I have worked with a large scope of issues ranging from anxiety, behavioral issues, family discord, infidelity, substance abuse, domestic abuse, and sex addiction. October 2015 November 2011- July 2013 Marriage and Family Therapy Intern- Ansbach Military Family Life Center As an intern counselor at the Katterbach Chapel I worked alongside the Marriage and Family Life Chaplain, Douglas Downs (MFT). I counseled couples, individuals and families, averaging about 8 hours a week of face to face client contact. My approved AAMFT Supervisor, Chaplain Demien, also oversaw my development of individualized treatment plans. While working with the Chaplain I have not only gained experience working with clients and co-counseling, but I have also been able to participate in the marriage retreats and pre- deployment marriage seminars put on by the Garrison. At the chapel we saw a slew of concerns from clients; ranging from communication issues within their marriage, infidelity, PTSD, suicidal ideation, divorce, reintegration issues, to providing counseling to domestic violence victims and offenders. During my internship I became familiar with different forms of therapeutic theologies, ranging from solution focused counseling to behavioral modification. I also gained experience with other models as well. I helped get these domestic violence victims set up in our shelter and took an initial assessment of their current state. I also worked with their children while the mothers were in group sessions. Although I only volunteered there briefly (50 hours) before moving to Germany, I truly enjoyed my time spent there and I hope do more work like this in the future. CODA is located in Beaufort, South Carolina, 843-770-1074 Other relevant information American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy Member I am currently a member of the AAMFT. This is the professional organization for Marriage and Family Therapists. Gold Key Honor Society Member During my time as a Graduate student I was inducted into the Gold Key honor society.
