Recent and Past Major projects implemented by NIC:

RADIO STATIONS:

1. P4 Radio – Cape Town
The design, installation, commissioning and training of 2 x On-Air studios, 1 x Production
studio and Main control. The system design included integrating a full RCS Master Control PC
audio Playout system.

2. P4 Radio –Durban
studio and Main control. The On-Air 2 studio and Production studio were integrated into one
room that is fully capable of performing booth requirements. There are two separate mixing
consoles, 1 Analog and one Digital that share the same sources and destinations but deliver
totally different solutions. The system design included integrating a full RCS Master Control
PC audio Playout system.

3.1 Radio Jacaranda, Samrand, Pretoria
studio, Main control and three News Edit Booths. NIC installed 2 Pacific Integrity Digital
Mixing Consoles into the On-Air studios, the first of their kind in Southern Africa and an O2R
digital console into the production studio. The entire facility was wired in both digital and in
analog to achieve full redundancy on all the equipment and to enable the user to make full
use of all the features available on these state of the art mixing consoles. The system design
included integrating a full RCS Master Control PC audio Playout system.

3.2 JACARANDA STUDIO IN MONTE CASINO
NIC were commissioned by Mtshali-Moss Projects for the Design, Installation &
Commissioning of a studio for Jacaranda in Monte Casino.

3.3 JACARANDA Studio in Monte Casino
NIC has been commissioned by Mtshali-Moss Projects to wire new cables & Install interface
equipment between Jacaranda Casino Studio & Monte Casino Mind & Mood Management.

4. Radio Botswana 1 & 2
Supply and Installation of Digital Audio Broadcast system and Digital News System cabling
system. The system design included integrating a full RCS Master Control PC audio Playout
system.

5. GABZ-FM, Gaborone, Botswana
The design installation commissioning and training of 1 x On Air studio, 1 Production studio,
Main control and 2 x News Edit Booths. The system design included integrating a full RCS
Master Control PC audio Playout system.


6. NAMIBIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION

6.1) The design, installation, commissioning and training of the entire new NBC Main control,
incorporating eleven national services countrywide. Over 35 000 terminations and app 45 km
of cable installed.
The heart of the system was designed around the Klotz Digital 196 x 164 routing matrix.
The entire system is wired into 22 x 43 “u” equipment racks. All the incoming and outgoing
feeds are terminated in a central MDF which intern feeds all the studios and TX areas. NIC
spent 2 months pre-wiring the racks at our premises and one month on site to complete this
project. The design includes full redundancy and combines analog and digital domains.

6.2) NIC has completed the upgrade of NBC’s 4 Regional Services. Each service consisted of:

1 x Production Studio (Studer Digital Consoles)
1 x Transfer Studio
1 x Edit Suite
1 x Main Control

Each of these regions interfaces back to NBC Main Control in Windhoek.

6.3) NIC was appointed by the NBC to build 6 completely new Digital On-Air Broadcast Studios.
This project was completed successfully at NBC Windhoek Studios.

NIC was involved in the design of the studio furniture which were then completely pre-wired
and tested at NIC’s premises. The completed studios were then shipped to Namibia and
NIC’s installation crew then spent 10 Days installing the six new studios into their existing
areas. This process involved approx. 1.5 days down time per area to switch over from the
old studio to the new studios.

7. Primedia Broasdcasting (Radio 702 and Highveld 94.7 FM)

7.1) Relocation of Radio 702 and 94.7 Highveld Stereo

NIC were responsible for the design, installation, commissioning and training for both these
service. We put both services On-Air on the same night within one hour of each other. We
were also responsible for the decommissioning of their existing studios, once they were On
Air in the new Facility. The entire system was wired in both Analog and Digital domains with
full redundancy.
We also designed all the logic and telemetry systems needed to control all the relevant
equipment.

7.2 New Primedia Move
NIC was once again awarded the contract to relocate Radio 702 studio and upgrade 94.7
Production facilities. This involved total rewires of 702 On-Air 1, On-Air 2, Production, News,
Call Screen studios and Main control and 3 new Productions studios for 94.7. NIC was
involved in the design, installation, commissioning and we also proposed switch over plan
between the old and new studios and to facilitate the final switch over.

7.3 PRIMEDIA BROADCASTING
NIC was commissioned by Primedia Broadcasting to facilitate the design, installation &
Commissioning of the new studios for Cape Talk & K Fm in Cape Town. This project consists
of the following:

• 4 x On-Air Studios
• 4 x Production Studios
• 3 x News Studios
• 2 x Main Controls
• 2 x Call Screens

NIC was involved in the initial studio and furniture designs.

8. Radio Pulpit
The design installation and commissioning of 10 Broadcasting studios and a Main control.
Training of staff on new equipment. Maintenance and Technical Support of the Entire
turnkey project. The system design included integrating a full RCS Master Control PC audio
Playout system consisting of 15 audio workstations.

9. SKY FM MONZE (Zambia)
Entire turnkey project. ON Air studio, Production studio, Main control and News Booth. The
system design included integrating a full RCS Master Control PC audio Playout system. Due
to logistical and timing reasons, NIC pre- wired and completed the entire installation on our
premises including the studio training. Once the studio buildings were completed in Monze,
we dismantled the working studios and transported them to site. We then traveled to
Zambia with a crew of four people and in just nine days we had completed the entire
installation including the mounting of over a hundred acoustic panels and training and we
put them ON-AIR.

10. Radio Algoa
Entire turnkey project. The design installation commissioning and training of 1 x On Air
studio, 1 x Production studio, Main control and 2 x News Edit Booths. Facilitating and
implementing of the live switchover from the old studios to the new studios.

11. KAYA FM

11.1) Upgrade of existing cabling to facilitate the install of a New RCS digital audio Playout system.

11.2) NIC was involved in the studio design & installation and the new On-Air, Redundant On-Air,
Production Studios and Main Control for Kaya FM.


12. SABC
Supply of Audio and Video Jackfields and AVP termination panels for their studios and OB
vans.

13. East Coast Radio

13.1) Complete Design Installation, Commissioning and training of two On air studios, one
Production studio, one News studio and a Main control system. The On Air studios are wired
analog and digital using the Pacific Digital consoles as the heart of the system. The
production studio is wired analog and digital using the Control 24 digital console and this is
interfaced to the Protools Digital Multi track editor.

13.2) NIC was commissioned by Tsogo Sun to build a complete On-Air Radio studio for East Coast
Radio in the main cinema forecourt at Sun Coast Casino. This studio is a fully functional On-
Air studio which links back to East Coast Radio studios in Umhlanga Rocks, Durban. This
studio also links into the Sun Coast Casino AV system allowing distribution of audio both
from & to the casino floor.

14. Nigeria
NIC has pre-wired 2 x On-Air studios, 1 x Productions Studio, 1 x Main Control, 2 x Edit
Suites and 4 x News Suites in Nigeria. Included in this was a full Radio Production OB Van
that was custom built in an Iveco Truck.

15. ZIMBABWE
NIC were commissioned by RCS Africa to build to complete On-Air Studios & Main Control
system for the Zimbabwe Government.

16. BOTSWANA BROADCASTING CORPORATION
NIC were responsible for the design, installation & commissioning of a complete Office
Monitoring System at Botswana Broadcasting Corporation. The system included installation
of 105 televisions into various offices using multi channel RF Distribution system. The system
enables you to monitor various channels from external sources and program content from
the various studios within Botswana Broadcasting Corporation.

17. KENYA STUDIOS
Complete Design Installation, Commissioning and training of two On air studios, one
Production studio, one News studio and a Main Control system. The On Air studios &
Production Studio are wired analog and digital using the Legacy Digital Mixing consoles as
the heart of the system

18. SABC
NIC has been commissioned by Hi-Tech Audio to do the Installation & Integration of all
Current affairs radio studios (4 x On-air Studios, 2 x 1Man Studios, 11 x Edit Studios, 3 x
News Studios, Metro FM and 5FM)

19. NAMIBIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION (NBC)
NIC was awarded to Supply & Install 27 new studios

NIC has been commissioned by Connecting Africa to Supply & Fit a Radio Station at
Metropolitan


21. HART FM
NIC has been commissioned by Otech Technology to build 1 x On-Air and 1 x Production
Studio.

22. SABC – STUDIO 10
NIC has been commissioned by SABC to build the new news studio. This project involved a
total revamp and digitization of SABC Television News Studio 10. NIC successfully completed
this project within the required timelines and commissioned & handed over a complete
working system to the SABC’s specifications.

23. SABC – S1 & S2 RADIO 5FM & RADIO METRO STUDIOS
Nic were commissioned by SABC for the Full Turnkey Integration of 4 x Digital Radio Studios
for Radio 5FM and Radio Metro FM.

24. RADIO HIGHVELD – NEWS STUDIO
NIC de-commissioned, relocated & installed the Highveld 94.7fm News Studio.

25. RADIO HIGHVELD – PRODUCTION BOOTH
NIC did the design, installation & commissioning of a Production Booth for Highveld 94.7fm.

26. GAGASI FM
NIC has been commissioned by GAGASI FM to build 2 x On-Air Studios, 1 x Main Control, 1 x

1. Nando’s Heat wave Radio
The design installation commissioning and training of 1 x On Air studio, 1 x Production
audio Playout system. The studio program is distributed to all their branches and affiliates
countrywide and in the rest of Africa, via Satellite downlink onto DSTV decoders and then
integrated into the stores existing music distribution system for broadcast to their employees
and clients.

2. Score Radio Siyaya
The design, installation, commissioning and training of 1 x On-Air studio, 1 x Production
and clients.

3. Radio ACK Ackermans
The design, installation, commissioning and training of 1 x On-Air studio, 1 x Production


and clients.

4. Radio Pick n Pay Hypermarkets
The design, installation, commissioning and training of 1 x On Air studio, 1 x Production
and clients.

5. Pick n Pay Supermarkets
The design installation commissioning of 1 x On Air studio, 1 x Production studio, and Main
control including separate audio splits to six different regions countrywide. This included the
DCS digital audio Playout system.

6. Pick n Pay Stores
The design installation commissioning of background music systems and ceiling speakers for
30 stores countrywide to facilitate the distribution of their in-house radio station signal via
DSTV channel.

7. Ga-Rankuwa Hospital
NIC has built a complete On-Air Studio & Installed over 900 speakers through out the
hospital to distribute the broadcast signal from the studio.

8. Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarkets & Supermarkets
NIC has de-commissioned, designed, installed & switched over both new Pick ‘n Pay
Hypermarket & Supermarket Radio stations and moved both radio stations into one
combined venue while keeping the existing facilities on air.

9. MIKE MULLER STUDIO
NIC was commissioned by Pro-Acoustic to supply and build a music production studio.

Supply & Installation of On-Air Studio and Voice Booth, Building Works, Acoustics and

AV INSTALLATIONS:

1. STANDARD BANK CORPERATE HEAD-OFFICE
Supply and Installation of audio and Tele- conferencing equipment in their Main Boardroom.

2. NIB (Nedcor Investment Bank)
Supply and Installation of Digital Production Mixer to interphase with their existing
conference center system.

3. Sun Coast Casino
NIC was sub-contracted to Wild & Marr to install a multi zone speaker system into the Sun
Coast Casino. The system comprises of approx. 600 speakers divided into 14 zones and
linked to various input & output interphases for varying degrees of control / access for the
system in the different zones. NIC is also involved in the installation of the East Coast Radio
additional On-Air Studio housed in the casino main entrance. The system comprises of a full
On-Air Studio, Main Control & Recording Booth. The system interphases to the existing East
Coast Radio studios and to the Casino Multi zone speaker system.

4. South African Reserve Bank – AV Installation
NIC was sub-contracted by Questeck to do the complete design & installation of all AV
requirements for the new Reserve Bank facilities. This consists of 3 Conference Centrums, 1
Delegate Centre and 3 Banqueting Halls

Conference A, B, C
Each of these conference centers has full video and teleconferencing facilities with surround
sound audio and is linked into the main delegate system. They are also linked to translator
systems.

Delegate Hall
This consists of a system accommodating up to 300 delegates linked to one main system.
Each delegate is able to access audio microphone and voting facilities. They are all linked to
the translator system.

Banqueting Halls
These halls can operate individually or as one main centre and has sound reinforcements
and are linked to the Main AV system. Additional to this is sound reinforcement in the
passages, toilets and main reception area.

5. Rustenburg City Council
NIC was appointed to do the new Council chamber for Rustenburg City council. This
consisted of a delegate system which will be brought through to main AV racks with talk
back and monitoring faculties for all delegates.

6. Sun Coast Casino
NIC was sub-contracted to Wild & Marr to do the design, installation & commissioning of the
entire AV and sound reinforcement speakers for the Sun Coast Casino in Durban. This
involved installation of 100’s of various speakers into numerous zones. The entire system
links back to Main AV Rack and can be controlled at various points within the casino. This
project lasted 3 months and involved the installation of approx. 8 km of speaker cable and
control cable.


7. Bafokeng Tribal Court
Complete installation of multiple delegate system with translation plus AV system and sound
re-enforcement speakers.

8. Edcon
NIC was sub-contracted to Wild & Marr to do the speaker installation for the Edgars Head
Office. This involves installation of 600 speakers for a sound masting system.

9. Rwanda
NIC was sub-contracted to Wild & Marr to install a complete evacuation system, sound
reinforcement speakers, banqueting facilities, conference centre, 2 bars , 2 restaurants for 2
x Hotels in Rwanda, Kigali Intercontinental Hotel & Kebu Sun Hotel.

10. Constitutional Hill
NIC was commissioned by Questek to do a complete installation at the Constitutional Hill.
This was a unique project as the old Fort Prison complex was incorporated into the new
Constitutional Court. This internationally important heritage site which was built in 1910 is
now open to the public. We installed numerous multimedia systems, projectors, screens and
audio systems within the existing prison cells and visitors are able to view & hear footage on
the history of the Constitutional Hill & the stories of some of the renowned inmates that
were incarcerated there such as boer rebel Christian de Wet, Mohandas Gandhi and in later
days treason trialists were imprisoned, including Nelson Mandela, Albert Luthuli, Joe Slovo,
ZK Mathews, Walter Sisulu, Olver Tambo, Helen Joseph, Moesse Kotane, Lilian Ngoyi and
Ruth First. NIC are proud to be part of this R492,000,000.00 Project which can expect a
predicted 300,000 tourists through the hallways by 2010.

11. SARS
NIC were commissioned by Questek to do the design & installation of 3 state of the art
boardrooms at the South African Revenue Service. These facilities include motorized screens,
full surround sound, video & teleconferencing systems and delegate systems.

12. ELLIS PARK Rugby Stadium
NIC were commissioned by Wild & Marr to revamp the entire audio system for Ellis Park
Rugby Stadium. To date we removed over 2 tons of amplifiers and equipment racks all of
which were upgraded, repaired, replaced and re-wired. We are soon to commence with the
2nd stage of the project which involves removing and replacing the speakers around the
stadium and installing kilometers of new speaker cable.

13. MONTE CASINO
NIC were commissioned by Wild & Marr to do the entire upgrade of the Monte Casino Sound
Reinforcement System and the Fire Evacuation system installation.

14. SARS
NIC were commissioned by Questek to upgrade the AV system at the Johannesburg SARS
office. This is an ongoing project & NIC will be part of a continued upgrade of all SARS
offices Country wide.

NIC were commissioned by Wild & Marr to do the entire Fire Evacuation Installation for the
ABSA call centre in Johannesburg. This involved the installation of over 400 speakers into 10
different zones under strict fire regulation specifications.

19. EDCON
NIC were commissioned by Wild & Marr to complete Phases 2 & 3 of the Sound Masting &
Fire Evacuation, Speaker Installation at Edcon Head Office. This involves the installation of
1,200 speakers into various Zones and levels of the building.

20. JOHANNESBURG CITY COUNCIL
NIC were commissioned by Questek to install a complete AV and Delegate system in the
Johannesburg Civic Council chambers. This system involved the installation of 120 Delegate
units linked together into one Main Equipment Rack using the Auditel Delegate System.
Additional to that NIC installed various sound reinforcement speakers and amplifiers. The
system also has remote video cameras installed and external PC points for presentation
purposes. Approximately 6km of various cables were installed and over 4000 cables were
terminated as part of the overall installation.

21. HOUSE VUNDLA
NIC were commissioned by Questek to do a High end AV Installation at House Vundla. The
system consists of various background music systems, home theatre & surround sound,
control systems which interphase to various equipment including control of lighting systems
within the house.

22. HOUSE BOTHONGO
NIC were commissioned by Questek to do a High end AV Installation at House Bothongo.
The system consists of various background music systems, home theatre & surround sound,
within the house.

23. HOUSE CHANDLER
NIC were commissioned by Questek to do a High end AV Installation at House Chandler. The
system consists of various background music systems, home theatre & surround sound,
within the house.


24. DEVELOPMENT BANK OF SOUTH AFRICA (DBSA)
NIC was commissioned by Questek and were involved with an ongoing installation at the
DBSA. The system consists of various AV solutions and includes full delegate system in their
main Auditorium. Included in the system is translations booths and one control booth.

25. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
NIC was commissioned by Questek to do a complete new Installation and Upgrade of the
MEC Boardroom. This consisted of a complete AV solution including full remote control
systems

NIC has just been awarded the audio installation of speakers for 231 Rooms at the Sandton
Towers Hotel in Sandton.

VIDEO:

1. PLESSEY
Upgrade of their existing Sentech Encoder System, including design and implementation, to
facilitate extra channels.

2. SENTECH
The design installation and commissioning of 22 Broadcasting “PIE” Equipment Racks. These
self contained, self op racks each contain audio and video monitoring, switching and full
telemetry systems. They are designed to automatically control and route vital TX and RX
feeds at remote Transmitter sites and have the option of been manually and remotely
controlled when required.

3. PLESSEY - SENTECH
Total design, drawings, rewire and upgrade of KU Band and C Band audio and video encoder
systems.
C Band – 1 x 9+1 video and audio encoder system, 1x 1+1 audio encoder system
Ku Band- 2 x 8+1 video and audio encoder system, 2 x 1+1 audio encoder system
1 x 6+1 video and audio encoder system.

This included planning the entire switchover between the existing and new system using
existing and new equipment. This was done whilst keeping all existing services live on air.
NIC also installed a new monitoring system for all the services.

4. MONTE CASINO
NIC were commissioned by Mtshali-Moss Projects to upgrade the Video Distribution system
for all the Plasma’s on the casino floors.

5. AFDA JOHANNESBURG / CAPE TOWN
NIC installed to complete JBL cinema surround sound systems in both Johannesburg & Cape
Town AFDA Main Cinemas. NIC was responsible for the design, installation & commissioning
of these systems.

6. SENTECH
NIC has been commissioned by Sentech to build 1 x DTT PIE System.

7. SABC – DTT
NIC are currently installing the prototype DTT equipment racks for 11 Channels to be used in
upcoming Test Trials for the future digitalization for the SABC.

NIC are currently installing the prototype DTT equipment racks for the 11 Channels to be
used in conjunction with the SABC systems for upcoming Test Trials for the future
digitalization for the SABC.

9. AFDA FILM SCHOOL CAPE TOWN
NIC has just completed a Turnkey Multi-camera Facility at AFDA Film School in Cape Town.
We did the Design, supplying of video equipment, Installation & Commissioning of the
project.

OUTSIDE BROADCASTING (OB) VEHICLES:

1. RADIO JACARANDA OB Unit
Complete On-Air Studio installed in Outside Broadcast Vehicle. NIC were responsible for the

electrical, air-conditioning and custom storage racks. The Studio was designed to act as an
fully functional On-Air studio as well as a mobile training Unit.

2. Kaya Fm Outside Broadcasting Vehicle
NIC was awarded the Design, Supply & Installation of an Outside Broadcasting Vehicle for
the Radio Station, Kaya FM which was completed December 2003.

3. Namibian Broadcasting Outside Broadcasting Vehicles
NIC was awarded the Design, Supply & Installation of 2 x Outside Broadcasting Vehicles for
the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation which was completed December 2003.

Note: Both the Namibian OB Vans & the Kaya OB Van were commissioned and Built at the
same time and from date of order to handover of vehicles to the clients was done in a record
breaking time of two and a half months. This includes all the designs, coach building,
acoustics, electrical, air-conditioning, studio furnitures and installation.

4. KENYA OUTSIDE BROADCASTING VEHICLE
NIC was awarded the Design, Supply & Installation of an Outside Broadcasting Vehicle for a
Radio Salaam in Mombassa.

5. RADIO PULPIT OUTSIDE BROADCASTING VEHICLE
NIC was awarded the Design, Supply & Installation of an Outside Broadcasting Vehicle for
the Radio Station, Radio Pulpit which was completed by May 2006.

1. Leephy Studios
The design, installation, commissioning and training of three Digital Production studios and
Main control. Each studio is equipped with Soundscapes 24 track Digital Editing systems and
are networked to each other to allow up to 64 tracks of recording by combining the studios
together. The three studios are all linked to one machine room and are all capable of
remotely controlling the VHS, Umatic, Beta cam and other relevant equipment that is shared
amongst the studios.

2. The Refinery, Sandton, Johannesburg
Design, installation and commissioning of the most advanced Digital Audio Editing Suite in
Africa. This included the Fairlight FAME Editor and Digital mixing console.

3. The Finishing Post
The design, installation, commissioning and training of 1 x DVD Digital Surround Sound
Production studio. The first full surround sound studio with DVD authoring and
SOUNDSCAPES RED 24 track digital editor.

4. The Refinery, Sandton, Johannesburg
The design installation commissioning of 1 x Production studio, including a 48 track Digital
editing system.


5. Telkom
Supply of custom built Test and Patch Panels for all their Broadcast circuits.

6. Jukebox Jungle
NIC designed & installed a full surround sound DVD Production Studio. The studio comprises
of ProTools Professional Record Editing System interphased to the HUI Digital Control
Surface. The studios outputs are mixed threw to a surround encoding and decoding system.

7. MULTICHOICE
NIC has completed the Installation for the DMX System and the Routing Switcher Inter
Connections at MultiChoice.

8. UPGRADE OF PAY SYSTEM AT PRETORIA NORTH STATION
NIC was commissioned by Comutanet for the Installation and Upgrade of the PA System at
the Pretoria North Station.

9. MONTE CASINO TEST & MEASURING KIT

NIC was commissioned to install relevant equipment & speakers in conjunction with large screen
television displays. The system was designed to show relevant entertainment, educational & sports
programming to Commuters at various Taxi Ranks. This system is remotely controlled and
monitored and different program sources can be remotely selected and downloaded via satellite.
NIC was involved in the installation on four major sites around the Gauteng region.

NIC were commissioned by Comutanet to design, install & commission video distribution system at
Johannesburg International Airport. This system distributes video content from a common source
into various plasma screens situated on the luggage carousels in the domestic arrivals.
