On September 16, 2016, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published in the Federal Register a 186 page rule titled, Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers, Final Rule. The Rule establishes the first ever national emergency preparedness requirements for Medicare- and Medicaid-participating providers and suppliers to plan adequately for both natural and man-made disasters, and coordinate with federal, state, tribal, regional, and local emergency preparedness systems.
