Part 2
COMMON NOUN PROPER NOUN
COMMON NOUNS:
It is used to name people, places or
things in general or nonspecific.
They are nouns that are used to denote
a general category of people, places or
things and not a particular name.
RULES FOR COMMON NOUNS :
1. Common nouns are usually not capitalized.
Example : My brother and his friend plan to ride their bikes to the movies.
In this above sentence, underlined words are common nouns and they are
not capitalized.
1. Common nouns are usually only capitalized if they are at the beginning (first
word) of a sentence or in a title.
Example : Dinosaurs are fascinating to study.
In this above sentence, Dinosaurs is a common noun but it is capitalized
because it is at the beginning of a sentence.
