The technical bits of creating podcasts
What is a podcast?

A podcast is a form of broadcasting over the
Internet.

Usually broadcast as a series.

Term grew out of iPod broadCAST - podcast.

A vodcast includes video - podcasts can also.
Using Garageband to record
        a Podcast
Garageband is a simple way to record and edit a
podcast.

Open Garageband, choose New Project, choose
Podcast from the display.

Check your headphone settings under
Preferences - input / output should have
Logitech highlighted / ticked.
Go back into Garageband

Click on the + on the bottom left of the screen
and choose Real Instrument from the pop-up
menu, then click on Vocals. (The + will give you
another voice under Tracks - it will show No
Effects until you choose one).
You can choose a different voice for a character if
you are creating a story / drama podcast.

Do this by going to the right-hand side and
clicking on Vocals. They will appear beside this
bar.
Click on the one you like - that suits your
purpose. When it appears in the track, click to
highlight - that’s the voice that will be recorded.

To record, click the red button. To stop, either
click the red button again or hit the space bar.
So What Does It Mean For
 Teaching and Learning?

How could this tool be used in the classroom?
(We will also look at this in more depth next
week)

Using Podcasts for Digital
       Storytelling

Open Garageband Podcast and name your new
project.

Go into ‘media’ and find your artwork if you are
using it, e.g. photos, etc.

Add this to your project in the ‘Drag artwork
here’ window.
Refer to your plan and decide on the voices you
want to use. Add these as tracks with the +.
(Refer to last week’s session if you need a
reminder).

Begin your podcast - save after each addition.

A good idea is to review the additions after each
one is added. Make any changes and save.
